Palm Pre 2 - Smartphone - 3G - WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM - touch / slide-out keyboard - webOS -

It was £131 on their site before and sold 100s in a few weeks. ebuyer realised that it was way too cheap, considering that those phones sell on ebay for more then £200.

£144 = massive bargain

I think you can go thru Quidco and get a bit of Cashback to boot. I've been looking at this phone for a week or so now, so many pros and cons, makes my head hurt!

Quality phone.... Got mine a few month back when HP were doing it at £100 for employee's. Really chufted with it....... It dont have the street cred of the others but this has by far the quickest of any of the OS out there at the min, that includes Android / IOS / and Windows Mobile.........

Defo worth this price..........

With HPs new touchpad out, webos will get better and better.........

If its a horrible and jerky and underpowered as the HP WebOS tablet, I'd say its cold. Not tried one not voting either way.

Yer I do sit an ponder getting one just to fiddle with it. But my brains always says "ecosystem" or "apps". When its 100 quid, it will probably be a try and sell if its not groovy.

Does anyone know whether this phone will get regular updates? Or will it be left in the dark once Pre 3 is out?

Seriously considering this or a Windows 7 phone- any advice?

Such a stupid and unhelpful reply to anyone that is. You clearly don’t own 1 for starters. Saying a £10 Nokia is better than these just highlights how much of a clue you've got........

I traded a Nokia 5800 to get this. And this thing is about 5 levels up than any current Nokia interface. The whole Nokia Smartphone symbian driven phones have fell well behind in recent years and I think even Nokia know that now.

Sorry, I should have said smoothest OS instead of quickest. Cause I wasn't meaning load times. I meant actually using the phone for the different tasks. The stacking of apps and multiuse of apps is better than anything you'll get on Android or IOS at the min, even on webos 2 and webos 3 is out now.

Again, because it’s Palm now HP, it won’t get the credit it deserves from People who are so set in there ways they'll always go with the cash cows of Iphones etc....

People, ignore these totally unhelpful comments. Would be ok if he actually said why this was a bad phone. They never do. Cause they aint got a clue.........

I like the phone for the Just Type, and the gesture - when you get used to it. It is a great phone if it does what you need it to do. I think the phone was shipped with WebOS 2.0.1, but updated to 2.1? Because when I last checked, the phone has WebOS 2.1 in it. Also, preware rocks!!

I couldn't get use to it, I am not used to having a lot of cards floating around (somehow I just keep closing the cards when I don't use them) and I miss the huge variety of apps from different OS (Android), so I sold the phone (lost like £20+) and got back to Android.

Oh, this shouldn't matter to anyone here, but just to point out, the very first SIM card you use to activate the phone the very first time decides which region the phone will be in, so be careful!!

i bought one last time round for £131 on ebuyer.
imo web os would suit a bigger screen.
The lack of apps and a cheep satnav and poor battery life are the biggest problems.
ndrive £39.
The universal search is very good. I have overclocked mine to 1.4Ghz using the F14 kernel.
and before you say the battery life was a crap even on stock 1Ghz rom.
The cpu in this phone is a Texas Instruments OMAP 3630 clocked at 1GHz PowerVR SGX clocked at 430Mhz which imo is much batter than Snapdragon Qualcomm QSD8250 found in many current phones wp7 and android phones.

I have tried to use one of these a few times in different phone stores , but to be honest i seem to put it down fairly quickly , i would not even buy one if it was 79.99 to play with it for a week or so.

Have you used the webos device before? or how did you figure out the gesture stuff? Because that is one thing I kinda got used to (and now missed) during my 3 weeks of ownership. But if I didn't know the gesture thing, I wouldn't have be able to operate the phone at all..

webOS is awesome, im currently using android and have been using ios for the past few years before the sgs2 and i miss the ease of use of webos

Good product, but 145.00 on play.com and it's unlocked. I presume this is locked to O2?

It's got a 1GHz processor, the only thing my Pre 2 choked on was on playing back TVCatchup video (my 624MHz X10 Mini Pro has no issues) where it sort of stutters through. To actually buy anything half useful on the App Store you need a credit card, debit cards do not work. If you want to do document editing, the best way I could find was to actually run the desktop version of Google Docs. The screen is also a bit small, most people will be a bit shocked about how small the Pre 2 is, believe me, I was shocked, and I am on an X10 Mini Pro. It's a bit too small for a 2011 TBH, if you're used to iPod Touches. Also, the keyboard is too short to hold comfortably, most of the weight is on the screen half. App store has a few goodies, but it's pretty empty, and the good stuff you need to pay for. Also, no OBEX transfer in Bluetooth, so no sending/receiving files like that.
If you want to run Classic to run your old PalmOS apps, it's not impossible, but the 10-step process might put less technically minded people off. Get a Pre Plus instead if you need that.
No front Camera, but then I couldn't find Skype for WebOS 2.1, maybe it's a WebOS 3-only thing.
The homescreen is quite basic, if you want widgets weather apps, forget it.

Plus points? Works fantastically with Apple Bluetooth keyboard and Sony Ericsson MBW-600 Bluetooth headset, actually displays track names and controls work, trumping iOS and Android in this regard. WebOS itself is really nice to use, I hope it catches on. If QuickOffice get their fingers out it would make the Pre a viable work phone. I have no complaints about build quality, aside from the 'chin' you can slice cheese with. Lots of Gameloft games available for it... you can sync with iTunes via DoubleTwist. Touchstone dock is definitely unique and cool. Was expecting a ****-poor Camera but it's actually quite good. The speaker is mono but pretty loud. It's simple to sideload homebrew apps on, and there's a loyal bunch of Palm freaks online that will hold your hand.

I reckon it would be a bargain at twice the price. Who wants to be an iSheep when you can have a 16GB 1GHz smartphone for midrange Nokia PAYG money?

Hi,

Hot deal but i had to return the item.

Pros:

+ Nice form factor, feels really good in your hand
+ The texture of the back cover and the overall phone is really nice
+ Multitasking is just amazing, card view blows iPhone and Android out of the water
+ User interface coupled with card view makes me itch to use the device
+ Fast processor means games and web browsing are really fluid
+ Hardware keyboard, whilst keys are tightly placed I prefer it to software keyboards
+ Screen is really good, the size suits the device and is crystal clear even in the sun

Stuff that is neither a pro or a con:

# Flash in the browser - Good to have, but cant really do much with it

Cons:

- Poor battery life, on the train whilst surfing the web it went from 97% - 30 % within an hour and a half
- Back cover gets hot
- Google Maps is crippled
- No auto focus on camera
- No download support in browser and very annoying to launch links in new tabs (hold the white key, then tap on link)
- Lack of apps

The main reason I returned it is due to the lack of apps. After using the phone for a day, I really started to miss the simple apps I had on my HTC Hero android phone. I couldn't chat to my friends on Whatsapp. If I heard a song that I liked when out and about, I couldn't use Shazam to identify it. If I wanted to download an mp3 from the browser I couldn't. I couldn't get turn by turn directions. I couldn't listen to my favorite podcasts at night which are linked to my google reader account.

I really miss using the phone though, webOS is really good. If only it also had the apps to back it. Best combination would be to have the card view interface with the android app market.

Hope this helps other buyers

I would reccomend WP7 all the way. I have had it since day 1 when it came out. Prior to this phone ( LG optimus aka lg e900) i use to sell and swap my phone on ebay every month or 2 ( NOT exagerating at all!!). I have tired all the OS's (iOS, Android, webOS pre1) and found faults with them all. WP7 not had 1 problem with thus far!! :-)

In short get a WP7, ( mango will be even tastey)

Having had a HTC Desire (android) and being really annoyed at things like
- No day or the week displayed in agenda or when creating entries
- No Oulook Notes or Tasks sync

WebOS is a breath of fresh air (at least with Pocker Mirror to do the sync).

Having said that, I've just found out that my old (really old) Palm m500 still works with Win 7 x64 and Outlook 2010 nwo that x64 drivers have been released. Happy days!
