I'm tempted to get one and use it as a universal learning remote control (with added software)

They also have the Palm IIIC PDA Refurb for £11.75 + delivery

Tempting - is the universal remote software freeware?

Also, I see this model being sold elsewhere with a GPS receiver as a budget satnav system. Anyone know what else I'd need to buy to make this a satnav (eg which receivers would be compatible)?

Cheers

cheers for this i have ordered it :)

have also bought a sd card for it 256 for #5 or 512 for #6.50 so make sure you buy yours too :)

i have been looking for a pretty basic pda for ages, plus the bonus that i got free shipping is great (the owed me a few free shipping vouchers due to past orders etc).

scoggy, the remote software isn't freeware :-( (unless you look in the darker side of the WWW :pirate: )

The software I was looking at is called Novii Remote Classic and you can get it here for £13.80 (was £8.37). There is a deluxe version around but it costs more.

I must say though that I haven't spent too long looking for remote control software so there could be cheaper or even freeware versions around?

I didn't realize a 512MB SD card was only £6.50 muddyfox470 - that settles it, I'm off to order the Palm & SD card...

That's odd - they've got 224 in stock now.

Ordered mine on the 1st Oct and they've taken the money.
I'd like to think we'll get them (can't see why not as the stock has gone back up now).

I went with Supersaver delivery so should have it by the 9th Oct - how about you Ian?
#9
Stock and price ( £50.31 delivery not included ) have gone up now !
#10
Thanks alien7 :) I'll mark it expired now...
#11
just checked the price is now less than £40 excluding delivery

however if you scroll down there is a palm IIIXe for £25 and palm IIIC for £11-75 don't know if they are a bargin or not
#12
#13
has anyone received theirs yet?

mine should be coming tomorrow...
#14
Strange the price is fluctuating. Shame - I saw they had loads in stock and so was going to see how I was doing at the end of the month before buying one at £25. £45 just doesn't have that bargain feel though.

eBuyer often seem to change the price on demand. If a product is hot they seem to bring the price up so it's often to buy asap if you see something good on their site.

Thank you for this, I got mine today. It's a totally lovely toy :)))

Actually, even at 45 squid I think it could be worth it...it's really very very nice and I've found loads of free software for it.

You can get a universal remote down at the local £1 shop for... wait for it... £1 LOL. If that's all you want it for then it's probably not the best bargain in the world. Otherwise, this looks like a good deal for a neat little PDA but bear in mind that is is very very entry level (hence the price). Just a warning to anyone who doesn't know much about PDAs - you won't be able to run any of the latest software on it, it is a glorified pocket organiser. :-)

That is not true my friend, Zire 31 PDA has Palm OS v5.2.8 installed and it can run every Palm OS appication available on the market. I installed the most recent versions of various applications and they all run without problems!
On the other hand, because it has a standard resolution of 160*160 pixels, it cannot run all the available Palm OS games. But I didn't buy this to play games, but to use the applications on the go! ;-)

Sure, I just wanted to warn any novice buyers that this won't be able to do quite everything that a brand spanking new top-o-the-range PDA can. Sounds pretty good if it can handle all of those applications though!

On a side note, any games that do work will prevent boredom on long journeys on the London Underground!!! I play solitaire waaaaaay too much on the tube (ipaq not palm).

Yeah but you won't find a universal learning remote for £1 - with the right software the PDA can learn the controls from the original remote.

I have a very obscure remote (no standard universal remote I've tried has been able to replace it) that's on it's last legs, so before it dies completely I can transfer all the buttons to the PDA.

how do you actually turn the thing off? or does the 'soft off' button suffice?

as the power on/off button just seems to act as a standby as apposed to a full off. i.e. there is no start up etc.

cheers

ian

PS. This PDA is almost EXACTLY the same spec as the current Z22, so yes it is an entry level pda, but it is absolutely fine for most tasks, i am new to this malarky but am loving it already :)

The unit just switches off by itself after a few minutes. As an aside, did anyone else notice that ebuyer kicked back the Quidco payment? I know it's only 38p on this order, but it shows why ebuyer is reviled.
#23
muddyfox470 there is no full turn off button as with most pdas
#24
Tracking speed for ebuyer on quidco:
Slow (18 - 22 days, 21 day average)
So don't worry.... the transaction will show as tracked soon
I have 7 transactions in my account, and 3 are showing as tracked (old transactions)
#25
It is shown as declined. It tracked very quickly.

Mine came on Monday and I'm very, very happy with it - it's really great

...although I'm not happy that mine came without the protective flip lid and not even a stylus!

Did anyone else that ordered this not get the cover and stylus? I'm waiting for a reply from ebuyer to see what they've got to say about it. I know it's a refurb but if it's not included they shouldn't say that it is on the product page.

Yeah, my QuidCo was declined too.
#27
An old thread I know, but I got one of these in a pre-Christmas sale, and mine didn't come with a flip lid or stylus either. I contacted Ebuyer who said I'd have to send the whole thing back to get them, as the couldn't send them out individually (!)

Not sure if I can be bothered. Does anyone know where I can get a flip lid or case cheap? I can get a stylus on Ebay for a fiver.

£28 for this PDA was certainly a bargain, but why don't Ebuyer change the description if they're not including the flip lid and stylus? Anyone else had any joy from Ebuyer?
