Ah yes 4k TV's. For the dumb buyer.

''oh wow I can see the extra detail!'' - sitting across the room watching Eastenders broadcast in 720p.

Almost pointless in 40 inch.

If you look very closely at this image and focus on the 4K representation, you will be able to spot that Idris Elba is black.

Link didn't work for me, but the product was just lower down on the page as a link.

Maybe this Link will work - http://www.ibood.com/uk/en/product-specs/293/640/panasonic-40-4k-ultra-hd-tv.html

Installed in an instant; super light; discovered no downside! Quality is sublime. Why am I not born 40 years later? The evolution in the high tech world is no longer keep up with!

Almost pointless in 40 inch.

True, not much point having 4k on a 40in TV. But really good price for the spec. Apart from the 4K, it has other feature like touch remote, voice recognition, 3D, etc. Looks stunning as well. Panasonic do quality TV.

Almost pointless in 40 inch.

Why's that then?

Won't this be a mainland europe version with no support for the UK Freeview (Terrestrial) HD channels?

Could work quite nicely as a PC monitor. Is it really 4K at 60Hz over HDMI?

link is broken, reboot the series nintendo

Almost pointless in 40 inch.

Why's that then?

Generally speaking from the distance people will be viewing it (assuming a main living room PC), your eyes can't physically pick up the detail over 1080p.

Recommendation is 50" unless you're pretty close.

Those of us that live in London almost certainly sit close enough to notice a difference. Then there's the difference between running games at 1080 and 4k (assuming your graphics card can handle it).

EDIT - I thought the panasonic was an OLED.

Almost pointless in 40 inch.

Surely it will be a worthy buy over a normal LED 40inch>?!
"Pointless" is a silly comment.

heads up that virtually all 4k tv's at the moment have very poor input lag which then renders it useless for gaming.... or at the least.... very frustrating.

Even the top end units e.g. hu8500 series samsungs can't achieve a good input lag time at the moment. obviously with new models things will change...but for now I wouldn't go blowing money on one if gaming is a primary use for you. would be better getting a 1080p set with OLED

Doesn't come with 3D glasses, so will need your own.

This is a quality set but is more 'uhd ready' it has no built in decoder for uhd so you cannot watch say 4k netflix without a secondary piece of equipment wheras the higher priced range have it built in

pointless in 40"- nope depends how far back u sit, Gadget show guy last night says optimum size for bedroom was 37", anyway great tv, yes its thicker than the super slim but for a GOOD REASON, good tv good spec, imo great for a bedroom or small living room, ordered mine today only downside shipping is 18-12 only 1 week from Xmas. thanks OP, HOT

Full 4:4:4 reproduction (PC) Yes for 4K; not fully for HD signal due to internal scaling

Love these comments about how you can't tell the difference.
I sit about 3 foot from pc and the difference from 1080p-1440p-4k was night and day. I can only presume these comments are made by those who have never actually seen one.

This is the TX-40AX630E looking at ibood.

proper review of the TX-40AX630B (maybe just a colour difference)

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/tx40ax630b-201410223934.htm

Believe it to be just active only

Tempting because of the quality name over the seki and swedex we've seen recently.

This 8 bit decoding I'm not sure on. I dont have netfix but what else would it affect?

Are you using a tv at 30hz or a monitor at 60hz. Tempted to buy this mainly as a monitor (but sometimes tv). if a tv how are you coping with the refresh rate.

Do you sit 3 feet away from your TV aswell?

I can only presume you thought this was a pc monitor and not a TV?

Here is a guide to viewing distance/screen size to notice a benefit of 4k over 1080p

As I stated before this may not support terrestrial HD channels in the UK. Personally I wouldn't take the risk.
