Perhaps someone would like to explain why they're voting this deal cold please?
Let the rest of us in on the big secret and identify a cheaper source.(I'm big enough to take it on the chin if the deal is bettered :-D )
Blind cold voting serves no purpose and undermines the usefulness of the site.

Thanks

For the record I did not vote this deal cold but I do enjoy a challenge..................If you go onto Ebuyer you can get sony s650 7.2mp camera for £66.80 ( including £10 google checkout ). Ther are LOTS of others on there that compare to the one you have listed and most are cheaper................

You're absolutely right about the O.I.S. In my opinion no other manufacturer comes anywhere close at this pricepoint.
All too often the focus (no pun intended) is purely on the CCD resolution but without a quality lens/system to match you're not going to derive the benefit associated with higher resolutions.

True, which is why the canon deal last weekend for the A630 for £86 was a far better deal than this. Also, the quality of the CCD has an awful lot to do with it. My 6mp Canon SLR 300D is superior to my 10mp A640.

I have a 7mp Panasonic and its the worst digital camera I own! I'd certainly not buy another. God knows what the image stabilisation on it is supposed to do. (Nothing as far as I can tell!

Your comments regarding the image stabilisation are interesting. The OIS system is very evident on all Panasonic units that have it. Obviously most evident when zoomed to maximum. Have you considered that you may have a faulty unit perhaps?
The A630 for £86 is/was a very good deal; though, as always, it's a case of personal preference as to which product you'd purchase.

I bought one of these last year and after 7 days took it back ! it produced unpredictable quality pics even in good lighting conditions ! Some were quite washed out and the OIS didn't impress me. I ended up with the Sanyo Xacti E6/ E60 range of compacts and I found these surprisingly good ! Far less dud pics !

This guy uses the Sanyo E6 here :

Most of the reviews rate the Panasonics very highly simply because the leica optics are a mile ahead of the normal high street brands. I bought the FX9 after having had a Sony and a Canon, and the pictures are stunning. I never use the OIS mind you as I have one of the little tripod thingys, which I find excellent.

It doesn't happen for me. The link is straight to Argos. (Trojan perhaps?)

I think the OP must have added a referer to make a few bob on the side :? link has "referrer=COJUN" in it and is longer than normal. Is that even allowed on this site?! Seems unfair to the HUKD forum owners.

Thanks for the link barneydog; I've amended the posting. Dunno how cojun got in there I just copied and pasted from the Argos site (or so i thought). I can assure you that whatever it was it wasn't benefitting me. (Probably got bad rep as a result)

I bought it in the US. After I got back to our apartment and had a play with it, I just wasnt impressed with it at all. Zooming in on captured images revealed compression artifacts far quicker than on my wifes 6mp Sony - and non existantant on my Canon 6mp 300D.

I bought it for my littlun. Unfortunately he dropped it (within 2 hours of purchase!) when we was supposed to be taking it indoors! (I wasnt impressed - but it was partly my fault as the case wasnt zipped up!) No damage, but a very slight mark that on very closer inspection would have been seen. I was going to take it back - but that little accident basically meant I was stuck with it.:-(

So what exactly should I be seeing with the stabilisation? Just better pictures because camera shake is removed? I couldnt see any difference at all whether it was on or off.

I bought one from Jessops because of the Panny brand. Used it for a week and the results from it were very mixed. On one occassion I took pics of my family outside a restaurant in very good light/sunshine and the results were just so washed out ! I kept the pics and use them to compare with the quality of similar models of other brands. Some of the web reviews of this Panny were somewhat mixed(but that is true of all products). This is my personal view based on a purchase price of £170 September 06.
