Previously posted at this price with empire direct but price has fallen to same level with Amazon therefore I have bought on the price match promise with PCWorld and paid £162.99. PCWorld still charge £349.99 for this player so the price match plus 10% of the difference makes a tidy extra discount!! (Telephone order)

not surprising ... the DMP-BD35 which has ethernet port is due for release mid-october which means direct firmware updates and internet content.

Oh sweet. Great Price!

It goes without saying that PCWorld are asking way over the odds for this unit but their greed certainly works in your favour on the price match with Amazon. That aside Its amazing how many retailers still sell this player in the low, mid and high 200's.

Will it also be wireless like the PS3??

Don't understand why these companies don't take advantage of wireless...
#6
cause it adds to the cost basically..

Ordered thanks. Been waiting for this to come down. This was £599.99 6months ago!

If you search on PC World don't use model number or panasonic - wouldn't find it when I tried - use 'blu ray' and up it comes - ordered.

Nice spot - heat added.

What would be the advantage of this being wireless, all it will do is play blu-ray discs, it has no hard drive or anywhere to store media. Also its not great streaming blu-ray over wifi imo.

HiDef over Wifi is less than not great it's nigh on impossible without stutter. If wired isn't an option then next best option for hi-def streaming is 200mb homeplugs.

Ditto 720p over WiFi (g) to a PS3 (never tried 1080p).

Blu-ray?

I can stream HD to my PS3 to but dont think blu-ray would be very good at 1080p and DD+ or Dolby True HD

The point is really the firmware updates, I think, as per the Blu-ray spec.

You can always update with a cd instead of ethernet.

Unless things have changed in the last 5 months, this article is interesting......

Perhaps PC World aren't going to price match after all. Just got off the phone with them, they're squirming about possible differences in specification to get out of the deal.

Amazon have them in stock (presently!) PC World have them in stock yet they're not playing ball at the moment. Probably because there is quite a difference in price being charged by each retailer.

I'm expecting a call back supposedly today but then changed to perhaps tomorrow morning. Of course if they delay then Amazon will be out of stock!

Fantastic price, and Fantastic spec for the price - it even plays DivX unlike a lot of competitors, which means I can finally *replace* my old DVD player instead of just add to my existing A/V set up.

Thanks for posting, voted hot.

They are breaking the terms of their price promise by imposing the delivery charge on you.

The promise states: "The competitor must have the item in stock and website prices must include delivery".

Since the Amazon price included delivery they are obliged to match that plus 10% of the difference. I got mine for £162.99 delivered as it should rightly be.

No stock locally so thought I'd just get it delivered.

They know damn well its the same player, really annoying to think they are not honouring the price match with some callers and lying in the process. Sums up the sort of company they are.
#34
I can confirm - just had call back to OK the deal as posted, thanks again.
#35
Small word of caution - they sent my invoice but added delivery (never mentioned at order), I rang to challenge and they said they only match item price - I pointed out their terms on price match which states match must include delivery charge - they checked and sheepishly said they would refund delivery.

If you are looking for the price match - scroll down and it is under 'PC WORLD LINKS' - specifically states website prices must include delivery and be in stock. Also states that websites include Amazon.
#36
Rumour has it that when the Devil comes to take one's soul, he gives you a choice between eternal damnation in hell, or working at PC world. According to a recent poll, the majority choose the former!

Strictly speaking, PC World aren't saying they won't charge for delivery. All they state is that the price they match must include delivery. I suspect that clause is aimed at some of the retailers whose products are £50 cheaper than anywhere else but then add a £70 delivery charge.

By all means, try to push them into dropping delivery charges. However, I am far from 100% sure they are breaking the terms of the promise if they do charge you (although, blackrat's situation of being billed without warning does sound dodgy).

I see your point wizball and you may well be right, nevertheless I feel its reasonable to say a price match promise should mean a like for like offer and indeed I am fortunate that is what I was given when I placed the order. What surprises me is that clearly some PCWorld staff are operating double standards by insisting that a delivery charge is applied, or perhaps this is more likely down to differing standards in staff training.
#39
I actually refered to Wireless for stuff like firmware updates, BD Live content etc... not streaming!!!! :-D

Absolutely - what's the point of a price match if it doesn't match the price? I think PC World need to clarify their description of the whole process, to avoid this very issue. However, more likely they will just pull the whole deal shortly. :-(
