The Panasonic DMP-BD45 offers a great introduction to the joys of Panasonic Blu-ray players.

Taking the essentials from the DMP-65 but cutting out some of the features makes the DMPBD45 probably the best value Panasonic Blu-ray player to date. Although a budget machine, Panasonic have ensured that, whilst the 45 may miss out on a few features, performance is as strong as ever.

With Panasonic being a major contender in the Blu-ray market you'd expect something special from their latest range. As with their more expensive models, the DMP-BD45 features a series of unique Panasonic technologies that gives it a class-leading picture quality. Featuring PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus, the DMPBD-45 precisely processes each pixel of the Blu-ray disc to give stunning picture clarity. Another exciting picture enhancement is Panasonic's 4:4:4 picture processing. When used with a compatible VIERA TV, this feature processes each pixel in both horizontal and vertical directions for greater image realism and stability. In short, whatever the film, you'll find the Panasonic DMP-BD45 delivers a first-rate picture performance.

Although pared down, the DMP-BD45 still features some connections not found on rivals. Both SD card and USB inputs are standard and give full compatibility with a wide range of digital media. The HDMI socket supports Deep Colour, x.v Colour and High Bit rate Audio.

When it comes to power-up, the DMP-BD45 is quicker than ever with boot-up power now available in under a second. With reduced power consumption, the DMP-BD45 is more environmentally friendly than before. It's also more compact, with a shorter case making it easier to fit into a range of different cabinets or shelves. Sleek styling means it's just as good looking and as well-finished as the more expensive models.

If you just want a Blu-ray player to play discs, pure and simple, then the Panasonic DMP-BD45 is one economy worth making.

do you have to send away for the bluray, or does it come with it when you buy on the day?

It was the same price instore @ HMV with the Avatar Blu ray last month. You may be lucky a find one still in your local store.

Just a note, this is only a profile 1.1 machine so no BD live functionality!

Far better out there for just a little extra.

As above.
Some of their clearance stuff has terrible reviews- it's cheap for a reason.

Cold from me, you would expect any Profile 1.1 players to be sub £50 these days, and in fact if anyone has any Currys Clearance stores near them you can find plenty of £40-50 profile 1.1 machines.

Hmmm, I can't recall seeing any deals for £40 branded Blu Ray players on HUKD. I'm sure if it existed someone would have posted it on here.

Anyhoo, what is the problem with a profile 1.1 player? I've never connected my Blu Ray to the internet - I can't be bothered watching the additional features you get on the disc, let alone more rubbish that can be streamed from the internet.

No Internet and no USB....No thanks...cold

Personally I think it's a good price. I looked at it a couple of weeks ago, and even got John Lewis to agree a price match but I ended up with a Sony 370 from Argos - with the vouchers it is effectively £80.

Hating this idea of tying the biggest 3D film of the year to a Panasonic TV and/or Blu-ray device.
What a dumb idea (and it's not the only exclusive tie-up happening on 3D right now either).

I'm not a great fan of 3D but if there was ever a more stupid way of turning people off of it then
1) having little available content out there is just about the best move for that and
2) tying what little content is out there to CE brand specific exclusivity deals comes a close 2nd.

does it play Divx ?

Perhaps they only have 10 copies for the offer!
Looks like they can "pull it" when they like because it doesn't say how many copies they have.

If you have a Currys Clearance store near you there were plenty, in fact an LG Blu Ray Player at Merry Hill Shopping centre West Midlands was posted here a couple of months ago, and I happened to pop in there just a week ago and they had another shipment of them in for £39.

1.5 years ago, I bought from Makro a clearance on the profile 1.1 Sharp HP21 Blu Ray Player for £57.

Did I say anything was wrong with Profile 1.1? No...I said that for the price this is, it is at a price point whereby you are seeing Profile 2 Players, with 1.1 being older units you would expect to see a sub £50 price point.

I've bought two Panny Blu Rays this year, and both times succesfully claimed the Avatar Blu Ray. I guess if they did run out of stock, they would reserve the right to offer a different Blu Ray.

You're correct of course. Panasonic are a reputable company and would no doubt offer an alternative. Item 4 is badly worded though I think!
