It's 4 x optical zoom, so not sure if it will get you close enough? All I can really say is that I have an older model of Panasonic camera that I bought from QVC a while back, and I love it (the Leica lenses are very good). I took some shots at a party recently (low lighting conditions in party mode) and they came out very well.

The camera itself is only £175.98 delivered here - http://www.thelensfactory.co.uk/digital-cameras-1/panasonic-digital-cameras-23/panasonic-dmc-fx35-black-4490.htm. Cards are cheap at the mo so might be a cheaper option.

Thanks. Good to have alternative options. The silver seems generally more expensive for some reason, but if you're not fussed about the colour... Also remember to factor in Quidco if you are a member.

A cheap 4GB SD card if you need it:

One other thing I forgot to mention is that with QVC you can try out the camera for up to 30 days and then send it back if you don't like it (no questions asked). I've sent stuff back on occasion and always got a prompt refund without any hastle. Note that you don't get your postage back (unless the item is faulty).

Dont think its that good a deal, yes you can record HD videos but it dosent use any compression so file sizes are huge, 8 mins on a 2gb card to compare that with the Samsung HD24 that will take around 2 hours on a 2gb card as it uses H.264 to compress files

Probably better going for the FX33 & FX55 which are alot cheaper

Thanks for the info deanos. It's useful in helping people decide what's the best choice is for them. I definately like the Leica lenses on the Panasonics (I got one myself), so worth checking out the other models first as you suggest.
