Good reviews at Amazon where this VOIP/Landline Phone is £65......

Manufacturer's Description
WiIth the Panasonic BB-GT1500E dual VoIP and landline telephone, users are able to make free calls to anyone else who has the phone whether that be in the USA or the UK.

Product Description
Panasonic BB-GT1500EB 2-line Hybrid calling system enables users to make unlimited free calls to any other Globarange user. The Panasonic 1500 is easy and quick to set up, with no PC hook up required. Because calling is free around the world, it dramatically reduces the cost normally associated with long distance international calling. Encorporating both landline and Voip technology, the Panasonic 1500 is ideal for those who want to add VoIP service, but don’t want to lose the peace of mind they get with a landline phone.GLOBARANGE provides completely free calls between joip-enabled GLOBARANGE phones - both within the same country and to other countries - for three years. You can call anytime you want, as often as you want, and talk as long as you want. This means that people who live far away from their family for work or school can stay in close touch, and business people can easily stay in contact with customers and associates. The Panasonic 1500 is expandable up to 6 cordless handsets, and is equipped with Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology for maximum security, minimum interference, and optimum range. The Panasonic 1500 is the base model of the new Panasonic Globarange, with additional features available on the 1520 and 1540.

I think these have been in the clearance section at John Lewis for months. I looked into them, but decided the tie to the VOIP provider was too restrictive. But maybe someone has a hack to allow other VOIP systems to be used ...?

You mean there is ONE review! http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/product/B000PCH4FW/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt/276-3476534-6908251?_encoding=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

A more useful view of the VOIP function is here, (the answering machine version):

While Panasonic DECT is the best, the VOIP functionality of this range is a waste of space - it is with one expensive service, so that aspect of it is dead as a dodo - effectively this makes this just a single DECT phone, so needs to be judged in that context.Better Panasonic DECT offers come and go often enough.

If I lived in the USA, I dare say I would read US reviews! I live in the UK, this is being sold in the UK so I look for UK reviews first, and can't think of why I would fire up the US site anyway, especially for something so regional as a phone.

As it happens these phones have been posted on this site so many times, (seeing as Panasonic seem to be getting rid of them!) who needs to look at any reviews, they have been discussed to death on this site eg.

As it is, what was wrong with what I said?

Is the VOIP functionality any use here? Is it cheaper than other VOIP through ordinary SIP providers? It seems to me it is as limited, and potentially as expensive as Skype :-(

Someone on one post mentions the cost to UK numbers via JOLT, the VOIP service - as it happens I am paying ZILCH on VOIP, so is it cheaper than that?

Do continue to be VERY WARY of the "VoIP" facilities of these phones - haven't double-checked this model, but previous such phones have been physically & logically tied in to a SINGLE/MONOPOLY SUPPLIER of VoIP service = NOT what you want at all.

So as advised by others, don't buy it on the basis of dual functionality as you will likely be very disappointed.

All that is great. Thanks for the info.

Nothing wrong with what you have said and i don't doubt that there may be better VOIP services out there - can't say its my bag and i'll bow to your superior knowledge on that.

All i'm doing is posting a phone that is practically half price than anywhere else right now, pointing out that the vast majority of reviews for it are good ones and those reviews are based on full price.

Meh...beyond caring really. :)
