Hi,

I have the TZ1 version - which is the best compact camera I've ever used.

I also use a D-SLR, but the Panasonic is so handy due to it being compact enough to carry around.

The advantages are the very wide lens, useful for scenes. The 10x zoom makes you wonder just what you did before it! And the image stabiliser is excellent at preventing quite a few missed oportunities, especially at high levels of zoom, becaue of camera shake. The video function is top drawer too.

The only disadvantages I can think of are that the lens cap isn't automatic, but it isn't too much of a big deal. also, it isn't the slimmest o fcameras but it is still portable.

All in all - a cracking camera and a cracking deal.

awesome scrummypaul.... finger hovering over the buy button but am gona buy camera now cos u like it plus reviews on net give it thumbs up and this is by far the cheapest!

Ooooh well tempted by this, had my eye on it for a while as a good budget high zoom camera...and Panasonic Lumix have a good rep as digital cameras too, was considering a cheap DSLR...mainly for the higher zoom available or a Ultra Zoom, but this is getting me well tempted...

is this camera new?

Play.com delivery usually takes around 5 working days I have found.

Anybody know if this is better than the Canon 70 / 75?

PC World have these on their website (and in store) for £189.99

You could pick one up using their pricematch + 10% difference for £102

Do they price match play.com?

Not codes - but Quidco do 4% and "Varsity card" (two quid from a Varsity Bar - and works for 6 months) does a 5% discount.

I don't know if they can be used at the same time, but a 5% to 8.8% discount if only one or both respectively.

Looks good in the picture - but 6mp is getting a bit black and white TV and betamax video now!

I have their FZ7 (bigger, but similar) and have found it to the the best camera I've ever owned.

Image Stablisation is superb
Optical zoom @ 12x (16.5x if you drop the megapixels to 3mp) is amazing.

I bet this camera also has the extended optical zoom at lower than 6mp's

Strangely they don't advertise it as being 16.5x optical zoom.

I'm now looking as to whether I can find the FZ8 at a bargain price, and upgrade again.

The TZ3 gets better reviews than TZ2, see here. The new model is TZ5.

The one on the pcworld site is a different model number, it ends with a k

I cannot see the TZ2 on their site - they do have the TZ3 for £189.99, have you misread the camera.

The TZ2 is obviously less specced than the TZ3 (7.1mp, and a quality 3" screen over this one's 2.5")

Hello,

I currently have a Fuji S5600. Excellant outside, but inside in medium light it very slow and the pictures are average.

I love the 10X Zoom, so this fits the bill. Would I see a difference in quality?

Regards

Hmm, I've been looking at the TZ3 for a while now but the one thing I don't like is that they have their own battery, I've got a cybershot currently and I carry around 3 sets of rechargeables which I can handle but having to lug multiple panasonic battery packs everywhere has got to be an absolute pain, not to mention the expense of buying extra ones.

I think the K means the body is black ..

This is a good price for a good camera so voted hot - but I'd be tempted to wait and see whether the new TZ4 and TZ5 models push the TZ3 price down a little more.

needed a new camera and was looking at this one a few weeks ago, good price.

thanks heat and rep added

Just bought it about 3 hours ago and then saw this. I advertised in for sale/trade for tz1 in silver and then on another thread saw someone had put this one at this price. Great bargain. I wish i'd of thought of listing it now. I hope its good. Also don't forget 4% quidco too.

Yah, Lumix cameras are awesome, I use an older FZ20 as my main camera and it takes some beautiful shots. Its all in the Leica lens. Buy this sucker!
#25
Ibiza the 6 megapixel on a panasonic is better than many 10 megapixel cameras, far more important is the lens.Megapixel means nothing unless its a quality lens this has a quality lens.
#26
Okay, so there are a few Panasonic users on here, what's the battery like and do you have/need spares, if so are they expensive?

I have the FZ 5 - Had it for 3 years now and NEVER replaced the battery. Have used it for at least 5 hours with it on solid and its only used half the battry life. I thin charge it so no worries with that!

As for 6mp - are you going to print on anything larger than A3?? If not then whats the problem? Even larger than A3 you will be fine.

MEGAPIXELS is not the be all and end all. Mine is 5mp and NEVER had problems printing at all to great detail.

BARGAIN - I may need to get this one as an upgrade! :)

Couldn't be further from the truth, with the tiny sensors point and shoot cameras have the market would be a far better place if camera manufacturers had stayed at 6MP. Megapixels mean pretty much nothing about quality and to be honest if I had the choice of my Panasonic LX2 having a 6MP sensor instead of its noisy 10.5MP sensor I would have gone for the 6MP sensor hands down.

People like to have one simple number for one device that is bigger than other, be it clockspeed for processors, megapixels or zoom for digital cameras. The long and short of it is you shouldn't base your choice of camera on the number of megapixels. Have a look at the brand new Nikon D3 which is a professional high quality digital SLR which is just 12MP despite the fact its huge 35mm sized sensor is many times larger than the tiny sensor in the TZ2 or any other similar point and shoot.

Totally agree with john. I have the TZ3 and 6/7mp is more than I'll (and probably 99% of the people who purchase a camera of this type) would ever need.

Sorry, the TZ2 was definately on there earlier. Must have pulled it.

Depends if you can manage with 3x Optical. The 10x Wide zoom is the main feature of the TZ Series.
#33

It’s not directly comparable as it only has a 3X optical zoom compared to 10X for this.

Thats what I needed to know .. thanks.
My 4 year old Canon has just give up the ghost so looking for a newer camera.

Some people are suggesting to wait for the new models due out, but don't assume just cos they are a new, replacement model that they will be better - IIRC, when Panasonic have released some of their cameras recently, the reviews have not always been as good as the model they replaced. Thing is, for the average user like me and the majority of us, we wouldn't probably notice that much difference anyway. I bought the FZ7 when it was £150 and I have been very impressed with the usability, picture quality and battery life.

I took it to Florida and used it all holiday, including a rocket launch and the pictures turned out great - my friend had a panasonic Tz1 with him on that holiday and I was very impressed for a portable camera with a fantastic zoom! I'm very tempted by this deal. :)

I am after a small camera, that will easily fit in pocket. Skinny jeans you see. IS this camera suitable, or is there a small slim one of similar quality someone can recommend/?

I don't think this camera is really what you're after, it's extremely compact for a 10x zoom but not as small as you're looking for. It really depends what your priorities are, there's certainly nothing smaller that's current (Kodak had a slim 10x that used two lenses and sensors) and has such a huge zoom.

Hi Buffalosoul

For what it's worth I'd be a little wary using bestpricedbrands.co.uk as I recall seeing elsewhere that they are US based even though they have a .co.uk internet address. The UPS logo on their site seems to support this view and if so you are likely to get US stock. Might not be a problem but just thought I'd mention it - if you google the site you might get more information. Anyway, whilst on the subject I've just bought this camera for the 10x optical zoom and cracking 28mm - 210 Leica lens. If i was being hyper critical I would say that it only seems to have automatic settings (no manual override) and no view finder but for point and shoot, landscape, wildlife and sports photos plus the portability aspects its a steal at £109.

The TZ 3 has more megapixels + a 3" LCD screen but that's about it.

Hope this helps.
