Despite its remarkably compact body and slim profile, the stylish DMC-FX33 boasts a 28mm wide-angle Leica DC lens that lets you fit more people in a photo when space is tight or capture beautiful portraits of people with sweeping scenery or large structures in the background.
With the newly incorporated Intelligent LCD, the camera detects the light condition and automatically boosts the LCD backlighting by 40% when shooting outdoors in bright sunshine, and boosts signals with pixel-mixed readout method when shooting under low-lit situation to secure a clear image in any circumstances.

Ive been looking at this a while, price has dropped quite a bit over the last couple of months, also at Amazon for about £5 more

The inteli auto and face reconigtion is whats pulling me towards this camera as i just want to point and shoot and get good photos

This is an excellent little camera. Had a play with one at my local camera shop. I have the TZ3 which is a cracking camera with 10x zoom. Voted hot :)

I don't think there is any doubt it's a great camera for the price. You won't go far wrong going by what the reviews say...

Wouldn't let me link the photo in the original post for some reason.... Might be still having teething problems with the new site I guess?

Yes it does look good, only problem is the video, i have the Casio Z750 and it records in MPEG4 so i can get about 2 hours on a 2gb card, not sure how much i would get with the Panny on a 2gb card, but then on the other hand the Panny has the inteli auto, i was at a concert in the summer and my pics wernt great as i didnt have a clue for the best setting

Memory cards are just going to get cheaper and cheaper, so to me that wouldn't influence my decision much ;-)

The only differences are that the 55 has a 3 inch LCD screen compared to the 33 which is 2.5, this means the 55 is slightly bigger and heavier. The 55 also seems to have a joystick type control for the function controls compared to the 33 which has buttons. :)

Would you swap it for your IXUS 860 IS though? ;-)

This is a great little camera, image stabilisation is good but it has a 28mm wide angle lens which many compact cameras do not, the lens is also high quality and the camera automatically corrects for distortion. I think a wide angle is very useful especially when shooting indoors and you're having trouble squeezing everything you want into the picture.
