Description

Panasonic is pleased to introduce the new DMC-FZ18 8.1-megapixel Lumix camera, featuring a powerful 18x optical zoom (equivalent to 28-504mm on a 35mm film camera), newly developed 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens and Panasonic's new and unique Intelligent Auto Mode. Panasonic's award winning FZ series of Lumix cameras has been highly praised across the world, for concomitant realisation of both high performance and ease of use, and the FZ18 is no exception.

Bridging the gap between high-end compacts and digital SLRs, Panasonic's DMC-FZ18 offers a level of control close to that of an SLR, but without the need for interchangeable lenses. Perfect for photographers on the move and families who want to shoot pictures outdoors for example, the FZ18 offers an easy way to enjoy the fun of capturing beautiful digital pictures.

Good price, I have the 12xOptical FZ8 from this range and they are great cameras, offering lots of manual options without the bulk and expense of a DSLR. Voted hot
#2
how compact are these?
Some of the cameras now are tiny.
It's mainly for low light stuff like nights out but I want versatility and a good optical zoom.
i don't want the bulk

This is pretty big, you will need a large bag to carry it.

It's less than an inch higher and wider than a credit card and front to back is as long as.
(everyone gets credit card out and compares).

Not for a suit pocket and will hurt a lot if smacked around the head with it.

Hope that helps.

If you want a smaller camera at a bargain price you won't go far wrong with this little baby for £50.00

uh, that camera is 150, from there, whereas you can get it for 50 as you just said.
they are selling a 512mb sd card for 30, if you're interested :-D

I have the FZ8. Superb camera. The optical 12x zoom and quality of the pictures is brilliant. Its a mini DSLR. My next up will be Canon 40D. At the moment I am well pleased with Panasonic FZ8. Bought the FZ8 for £160. Hot deal
#13
had one of these about a month now - the 18x optical zoom is amazing
#14
Had my FZ18 for approx five months now - purchased on release from PurelyGadgets at £290, so this is a great deal. Some were also available at the QVC outlet in Warrington at £149. Don' t know if they have any left.

Probably the best "bridge" camera on the market currently. Pictures brilliant, though don't expect vertical buildings at the edges of wide angle shots. The Leica lens is superb, nonetheless, and the anti-shake circuitry extremely useful at these levels of zoom.

Using the P setting, you can easily achieve the 18x optical zoom plus the 4x digital zoom, giving 72x zoom altogether, and still have a reasonably acceptable picture. I took some pictures this week, in just that way, of a deer about 500 metres away.

Voted Hot though i already have one i paid more or less the same price tbh.

Id go along with all other owners remarks on the camera saying its very good :-D i bought it to replace my S7000 which i also liked in its time and tbh it seemed a much better build than FZ18
#16
I have the FZ50 10MP camera and its the best thing ive Ever owned camera wise its so well built if you can find it sub 250 snap it up
#17
Voted hot great camera
#18
These Pannys are fantastic cameras I have the FZ7 bought last year on here and it is the business..The FZ8 was no more than a processor upgrade but this FZ18 does have some new features which are worth paying the extra for..Voted hot superb deal..

Just to add that the Black one is available on amazon for £219.00 delivered but the silver one is even dearer???

Each to their own, I guess - or perhaps down to supply & demand.
#20
I've had this camera for a few months now. Not compact, but light for its size. Great pics and the zoom with stabilisation is excellent. I think I paid £260 :(
#21
Seemed a great price, but the price shown above I cannot get, lowest I have managed to get is £199.49 which is only £5 cheaper than the next nearest retailer, how did you manage to get it down to £185?

Price £209.99 less 5% off code £199.49. Cannot enter another voucher code as only accepts one

Seems you have taken off the Quidco price plus the 10% voucher code (which is only for joining the RAC - so NOT useable by a lot of people). Surely then the price should be noted down as £199.49 then, or is there something my small brain is missing???
#22
I am quite interested in this camera. I currently have EOS400d and Canon IXUS 860IS. Im thinking about upgradin the 860IS to this Panny. Wise move or not ?? The 860 has dissapointing pic quality in low light
#23
i agree - how do you get this price down so low- the site only allows you to enter 1 code?
and im not an rac member so that voucher doesnt apply to me?

does anyone have an rac membership number they wouldnt mind letting me use?
#24
looks like a fantastic camera, although looking at pics -would much prefer a black one,

has anyone seen a similar deal for a black one?

It's £204.99 on that site, compared to £199 on this site? Plus if you have quidco you get some more money off via play. Also have purchased numerous items from Play with no problems, never bought anything from the above website however

They charge £7 delivery bringing the total price up to £217, amazon price is £219.99 with free supersaver delivery. However, on their faq page they say that the boxes have been opened and checked before being resealed with their own security stickers. I can't understand why they would do that as I have never bought any branded electrical item which doesn't have the manufacturer security seal still on and it puts me off buying from there :?. Its not like panasonic are likely to send out stock to suppliers which is dodgy or missing pieces.

Anyway ordered my black version from amazon, great camera and great deal!

Thanks so much for this deal. It's saved me at least £30. My father is going to be pretty pleased with his new camera. Even if he did want the black model. :)
