A really good Christmas deal, because Panasonic have doubled the cashback to £60:

http://promotions.panasonic.co.uk/offer/christmas-201415-cashback-offer/

So £155 for a very decent camera (as recommended by Which? and a recent Gadget Show)

The DMC-FZ72 features stunningly versatile LUMIX DC VARIO 20mm ultra wide-angle lens with a 60x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 20-1200mm) making it possible to capture dynamic landscape and wild animals or birds distant away. The 20mm ultra wide angle lens captures approx.140% wider angle of view compared with a 24mm angle of view.

The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) effectively suppresses hand-shake vibration. The angular width that the DMC-FZ72 can compensate is more than 200% wider than the predecessor DMC-FZ62 at the tele-end, which realizes handheld 1200mm super telephoto shooting.

The Active Mode is equipped with DMC-FZ72 that encourages active video recording at wide angle such as shooting while walking without causing deterioration of image quality.

The recorded videos come with the highly realistic Dolby Digital Stereo Creator and its sound quality is further improved with the DMC-FZ72 thanks to the newly developed Wind Shield Zoom Microphone that minimizes wind noise by approx. 70% compared with the predecessor DMC-FZ62. Externally, the special sealed structure prevents wind from hitting the microphone directly and the draft structure suppresses retention of air internally. As a result, the sound is clear, comfortable to listen even it was recorded on a windy day.

The DMC-FZ72 records full-HD 1920 x 1080 videos in both AVCHD and MP4 format. A special, separate button on the top lets you instantly start recording videos while shooting photos without having to make any extra settings.

The 16.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor is newly integrated in the DMC-FZ72. Together with the high performance image processing LSI Venus Engine, it elevates the response, sensitivity and image quality of the DMC-FZ72 even to the higher level.

Integrating the high speed digital signal output technology, the DMC-FZ72 shoot 9 fps in 16.1-megapixel full resolution with mechanical shutter and 5 fps with continuous AF. It also contributes to the Light Speed AF. Together with the quick start-up time, the DMC-FZ72 never misses the most fleeting shooting opportunities.

Great Deal.

I cannot figure out why on earth someone would vote cold on this one as I have the camera and have taken some great shots with it.
#3
Not surprised to be honest
I put a Canon SX50 on for 199.99
it was minus 20 after a few minutes

Absolutely stonking deal, I have the FZ200 which must be quite similar and that is completely brilliant
#12
What a deal, I sold the Canon SX40 2nd hand last week on Gumtree for £100, might buy this with some of my Bespoke vouchers!
#13
so is this a better camera than this one?
also can these cameras take pictures in very low light? like if you wanted to take a shot of the stars at night?
#14
This is more than I was planning to pay for a digital camera although much better than Nikon cool pix L830 for £119.99 - oh i wish UKhotdeals would stop me spending money!!

Go for the Panasonic mate

Here is a website that lets you compare

fz72 vs 9400w

I put this in flubit and got an offer back after some delay. I cant see anything in the T&C's for the cash back offer on the Panasonic website. So it should still be eligible to receive the cash back shouldn't it ?
don't fancy finding out too late it wouldn't be eligible for the cash back.

anyone else tried it ?

Almost certainly you'll find that it doesn't qualify. I'd check the T&C very, very carefully.

on the offer page it states that it can't be from a third party seller on Amazon. Found a contact so I have emailed them to confirm.

A sensible approach. This clause may well rule out the types of company that supply Flubit:

All Panasonic Qualifying Products must be purchased within the UK or Republic Of Ireland from a participating retailer and must have been supplied and distributed to retailers by Panasonic Marketing Europe GmbH or Panasonic group companies located in the European Economic Area (EEA). Please check with your retailer for further information to avoid disappointment.

And just as an addition to that, Flubit don't always supply the item that Amazon are selling - found recently that they'd supplied an older, obsolete version of what Amazon are selling, and they're quite unrepentant about it.

I'd give Flubit a very wide berth - I don't trust them an inch now.
#27
Not bought much from Flubit but most of what I have has still come direct from Amazon with a gift receipt. So guessing they would see that as not a direct purchase.
#28
Thanks OP! My camera just arrived from Amazon today. Was wanting something budget friendly for taking wildlife pics so I don't need to keep borrowing my mates Dslr. This should fit my needs perfectly. Bargain!
#29
Mine arrived today - first impressions is it compares very well to the Sony hx400v - a lot better than the Fuji S1 on video and low light. Not so impressed with flash in the auto modes; uses ISO 800 occasionally 400 for some bizarre reason.

Did some detailed comparisons of the FZ72 and HX400 last night testing the different modes and ISO settings shooting from a fixed position at wide angle and 5x tele; I'd say the Panny beats the HX400 on image quality; a lot of reviews talk about the FZ72 lens being soft at the edges at wide angle; from my tests it seems fine, certainly better than the HX400; though there was some purple fringing.
