Only available in store (part of the new catalogue Clearance) but fairly widely available from what I can tell. Also in Pink though I can't find so many of these.

This is (was) the entry level 10 megapixel Lumix. The main things missing from the other 10mp Lumix camera are the optical image stabilisation and the intelligent auto mode.

It's mainly been sold at £79-£99 in recent months.

Has a lituim ion rechargable battery, 4x optical zoom (Lumix DC Vario)

* 10.1 megapixels.
* Silver.
* Plastic body.
* 33mm wide angle lens.
* 4 x optical zoom.
* 4 x digital zoom.
* 2.5in LCD screen.

Features:

* PictBridge compatible.
* Digital anti-blur.
* Face detection up to 15 faces.
* Continuous shooting up to 2.3 frames per second.
* Memory card compatibility: SD.
* Movie capture with sound.
* Maximum ISO 1000.
* 22 scene modes.
* Intelligent scene mode.
* Self timer.
* Built-in flash.

General information:

* Accessories included: USB cable carry strap.
* Rechargeable battery.
* Weight 134g.
* Size H9.7, W5.5cm.
* Depth of camera when switched off 2.2cm.

WOW! Under £60 for a Lumix........ Makes all those other post for Samsungs/Fuji cams at the £50ish mark look over priced !

...nor HD video, which is a deal-breaker for me.

It's a bit old for things like HD video on a compact.

It's basic make up is very similar to the FS62 which was a really good camera. The lack of optical image stabilisation is clearly a weak point but there aren't many cameras at this price with this feature. At £79 I would have go for a £20 more expensive Lumix but at this price it may be worth a punt if your looking for something at this price range.

It's a Panny - it'll be good. Terrific value at this price.

Thank you.Reserved pink one.

Lithium ion battery, 10MP (safer bet than the 14MP sensors you see these days) low price, not bad. Personally I'm waiting until after xmas.

Is this camera any better than this one? http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5592056/Trail/searchtext%3ECANON+POWERSHOT+A480.htm

Canon are generally very well regarded too - but SO ugly!

However, that one is an AA powered one, not rechargeable Li-ion, so not nearly such a deal.

I much prefer the look of Canon over Panasonic though ;)

And for some being able to use AA batteries is a plus point...

Neither of these cameras has IS - but despite what I say above the Lumix is better value.

I find it odd for people to say: it's a panny, it must be good!

It is a most ludicrous claim! I once bought some earphone from 'panny' and it was rubbish! The £2.99 throw-away seinheinser (as claimed by a Richer Sound salesperson!) was better than this reduced-£7.99 panny.

We are in 2010 and soon 2011, please don't make such a stupid remark!

A nice thing about the Canon A480 is that you can use the CHDK firmware http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/A480

This lets you take RAW photos and gives a lot more control over the manual settings. You can write scripts to take photos automatically when movement is detected (eg for pictures of lightning), or on a timer. Its free to use this and you can go back to the standard camera if you use a different SD card. Not many recent compact Canon cameras are supported for the CHDK firmware.

It's a bad idea to judge every Lumix the same. This one has not many reviews. It';s probably decent for the price but still, dont make assumptions - they are the mother of all mistakes.

valid point by the other posters comment was just plain wrong, ignorrant and stupid!

This is clearly an entry level Lumix with no OIS or IA but with Lumix DC Vario) - but still good value and certainly not comparable to a pair of Panasonic earphones.

EliTom

I have not come across a bad Lumix - had three myself and alos use them at work

I think you're making a lot out of Danjams comments; he said
I find it odd for people to say: it's a panny, it must be good!

I think that's a fair statement in itself; as we all agree not all Panasonics are equal.

Telling him to "Shut the .... up" for that type of comment doesn't seem smart or clever to me!

Incidentally I've only owned one Panasonic camera; it's the only camera I've ever owned that I have wished I didn't buy and it's just failed toward the end of it's first year.

got the last one in my area, cheers great price for a great camera

Never had a Lumix but took this out the box for a look and first impressions is that it feels very cheap and tacky?

Was thinking this might have been a better option. http://tinyurl.com/24rpafk

Or much the same?
