It is a great little camera - I have one - but it isn't "just released" as I bought mine last October...

Everybody who contemplates to purchase a Panasonic digital camera should be aware of this!.

Panasonic's sneaky restriction on use of 3rd party batteries (so you have to buy theirs for £50+).

I'd stay away from a company like that no matter how good their products are.

Don't update your firmware, if you already own one.

Strange post! You should get out more!

Just about every camera manufacturer and plenty of other electronics companies use dedicated batteries - annoying perhaps but certainly not specific to Panasonic. Compatibles are widely available on the net at a fraction of the price (eg for my Panasonic TZ5 I got 2 for £11 delivered vs £30 ish for one branded one retail).

And your point re firmware?

Interesting, thanks. At least two UK suppliers claim it's new.

may be same as sony does. I have camcorder 3rd party batt fits powers up camera then says not sony battery but works ok on earlier camcorders .Maybe thats what he means? as it stops you using 3rd party batterys

but it wouldn't bother me for this type of camera as I would only get a replacement and not an additional one

Interesting and new to me. Would have helped if pet2000 had explained!

as i said tho, I have had several compact cameras and the battery life tends to be more than good enough to last a day (200-300 shots) and a simple travel adapter means you can charge abroad. So I have never had the need to buy an additional battery. serious photographers may want a second battery but Ithey are the type of people who buy DSLR's and £30 (although not pocket money) is affordable.
