I know.... I was joking :)

Its a different sort of camera, FAR more capable than the F20 but obviously a little larger.

Sorry.... I KNOW the F20 is inferior.... What I said was a joke relating to an earlier camera thread where that question was asked every five minutes....

I'll get my coat :(
#12
i got my mine from ebay black one and i love it!
#13
Better than the Fuji S5700?
#14
Is this an SLR?......ok its not - but looks it - prefer a carl zeis lens

Worth it ??
Currently have an Casio exilim z60 - 6mp

Any codes for ebuyer?
#15
This is not an SLR but this is an amazing camera. I have the older model and it takes brilliant photos. The zoom is amazing and the image stabilizer helps a lot with that big zoom :)

Buy it and enjoy. You will not be disappointed

This is a great camera by the looks of things, I have been doing a lot of searching the past few months to get a new camera and this was top of my list, and at a better price now. It is on my christmas wish list and my wife has been alerted to this thread :) Hope santa knows !!!

Better than the Fuji S5700?

I'll bet lighter.

I tried a Fuji S5700 (was it that one?) and it's a beast, and takes 4xAA's so very heavy.

If the FZ8 is anything like the FZ7 that I have now, it's gr8.

And it does itself out of zoom - if you set it to 4:3 and 2.5mps you can actually get over 16x OPTICAL zoom, even if you don't snap the pic at this resolution, it gives you 16x through the viewfinder for a close peek.

As far as improvements from the FZ7, there aren't many, which shows how good it was in the first place; just tinker, don't mess too much.

They've beefed up the pixels on the LCD screen (have they done the same to the viewfinder I cannot see the spec on this); increased overall resolution by 1m pixels (even bigger SD card required here), and increased its low light ability on the ISO front (perhaps the only limitation on the FZ7).

What they've still not done is increase the wide angle; on many of the other Lumix's is it 28mm, but you can't have everything I suppose.

Oh god, I can't buy another camera, this ones less than a year old.

Awesome camera, I too paid alot more for it when it originally came out, the only con about it I have is that low light indoor pictures arent the best and neither is the flash.

I would totally recommend this though, plus a wide angled lense (makes a huge difference) and screen protectors of ebay.

To follow on from the post above, they have also added RAW mode, not use to many people but means you can take pictures without compression so they can be blown up mahoosive with very little degredation.

I got this camera and it's great, especially with fast SD cards.
Got mine from Camerabox, its £171.98 delivered but you get a 2 year warranty.
As for accessories try 7dayshop
Case Samsonite(good one) £14.99 Room for the accessories and it will protect the camera
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=100214
Spare Battery £5.49
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_3&products_id=101141
1 gb sandisk extreme 3 £10.99
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_6&products_id=101181
2 gb sandisk extreme 3 £15.99
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_6&products_id=101180

I have not included p&p for 7dayshop, but if you want all the accessories you will pay p&p the once. So it's worth it.

Hope this helps anyone who's just got one or is thinking of getting one.

You won't regret it

Chappers does the samsonite case have an option to fasten on your belt.
#23
I got one of these earlier in the year for a trip to Borneo. My sister and OH also brought cameras with them - ended up just using mine as it produced so much better results (particularly with distant subjects like wildlife).

Does tend to produce slightly noisy pictures in anything other than sunshine though.
#24
Hi Den169,
Yes the samsonite case has 2 x belt loops.
It is fantastic quality (fabric stitching and protection), not the cheapest i know, but you need to protect that new investment, and it fits a treat.
Its not the smallest case, but it's not the smallest camera.

how mu
ch did you pay?

I have this camera in Black, Its a very good camera that lets you toy with manual settings without the bulk of an SLR. Here are a couple of snaps on took on hols this year with my FZ8:

I am only a beginner but cannot recommend this camera enough, the video from it is also very good. I got a 4GB SDHC card for pennies from play and its been faultless.

Technically I believe the term is "bridge camera" - what you see in the viewfinder is what you get (like an SLR) but a non-interchangeable lens (like a compact).
SLR-like cameras – "bridge cameras"

The "SLR-like" or "advanced" digicams (e.g. the Olympus SP series, Nikon Coolpix models such as the 5700, 8400, 8700 and 8800 to name a few; the Sony Cyber-shot DSC V, DSC H, DSC F and DSC R series, the Panasonic FZ series, the Canon PowerShot A, G, some S and Pro models, Minolta DiMAGE 7/7i/7hi, A1, A2, A200, and some Fujifilm FinePix models such as the S7000 and S9000) offer a non-optical electronic through-the-lens (TTL) view through the focusing lens, via the eye-level electronic viewfinder (EVF) as well as the rear LCD screen.

The difference in views compared to a DSLR is that the EVF shows a digitally-created TTL image, whereas the viewfinder in a DSLR shows an actual optical TTL image via the reflex viewing system. An EVF image has lag-time (i.e., it reacts more slowly to view changes and has a lower resolution than an optical viewfinder) but achieves parallax-free viewing using less bulk and mechanical complexity than a DSLR with its reflex viewing system.

One limitation of a bridge digital camera is its fixed, non-interchangeable lens

Looks very good value for money - the Panasonic anti-shake system is getting top marks, the lens is good, only electronic noise seems less than great. I may ask Santa for one. :santa:

ive heard good reviews....as you state it acts like an slr but you cant change the lens so no good for long distance shooting but much better than the ****** point and shot cameras most of are too slow to take decent pics, but very good for point and shoot shots.....good price tho i prefer my canon eos400 but then that cost me £200 more -i got it at a good price.

Ok im buying this then

Any codes at all and this is silver only then ?

I gotta put £400 worth of cheques in the bank so thats gunna take like 1 week will the price stand?
