I bought mine from Amazon and they do qualify, in fact I got my £30 cashback in less than a week.
PS, The camera is superb, though the GPS is is a totally unnecessary gimmick. (In my opinion)

Now showing as £239, the identical black version is £206.40 before cashback.

You have to choose the buying option to the right to get from Amazon for the £202 price.

Great cameras Lumix TZ range.

Apart from the GPS, is this worth buying over the TZ8? Thanks

I'm contemplating one for the wife to use while I'm doing events with a DSLR. Looks like a useful supplementary camera.

I use the TZ5 as my supplemental camera when I can't get clearance to get my pro gear into gigs. The TZ10 looks even better as has more control as well as the additional zoom and image size.
[helper]#16
Would you get this instead of an entry level DSLR? x

Some guy reviewed that he has the TZ8 and the TZ10 and what he cant understand is why the TZ8 produces better quality images than the TZ10 when they are both the same lense? x

Is this better than the Sony DSC TX5?

The Sony has the advantage of being usable underwater and a touchscreen, but the Panasonic takes slightly better pictures, has a much greater zoom range and several other features which would place it ahead of the Sony, IMO.

Features comparison here:

The TZ10 also has a bigger, higher resolution screen compared to the TZ8.

Just a thought - if they aren't going to have them for 3-5 weeks won't you stand a chance of missing out on the £30 cashback offer as it ends on 19th Jan?

The much admired TZ7 and the TZ10 are part of the same range - with a high-res viewing screen.

The TZ8 and TZ9 are NOT part of the "TZ7 range" and have a far inferior screen.

The TZ10 produces pretty excellent HD movies - in either MPEG or AVCHD?) (the latter giving smaller files but being harder to edit). It can take up to 64Gb of SDHC card so that's not really a problem. One tiny issue is that movie mode is limited to just under 30 minutes (per go!) to comply with EU rules.

My understanding is that ANY UK retailer is in this cashback. This is NOT the same as the promotion last summer - where it was strictly "named retailers" only.

I took this video and the other pictures in the set with the earlier model Panasonic TZ6, they might convince you,
The music on the Chaplin video is supposed to sound scratchy!

Only you can decide, really. The two are completely different and there are advantages and disadvantages to both. I switched from a good quality Canon compact to a Pentax DSLR just under a year ago. The Pentax takes noticeably better pictures (although the Canon was very good for a compact) and it is also gratifying to actually take the picture the moment you press the shutter. (All compacts are much 'slower', with a slight delay between pressing the shutter button and the picture being taken - DSLRs are virtually instantaneous - I remember last year trying to take an action shot of my daughters jumping up in the air with my Canon, it took about 20 attempts to catch them at the top of their jump, because of the delay in the camera firing.) The Pentax is also vastly better in low light, both because the much larger sensor gives clearer, less noisy images, but also because the size and shape of a DSLR allows you to hold it much more steadily than a compact.

So both for usability and image quality a DSLR will win hands down every time. But.....

My Pentax is pretty compact by SLR standards, but even so, it is vastly less convenient to lug about than a compact and there are situations, e.g. our family Christmas get together next week, when I almost certainly won't use it, as it is just too obtrusive, IMO. With a compact, you can just 'snap the moment', but once I take out my big fella(!) people feel they need to stop what they are doing and pose for a 'serious photograph', which more often than not isn't what's wanted.

I sold my Canon compact when I bought the Pentax, thinking I would never look back, but I'm now seriously thinking of buying a compact super-zoom (like the TZ10) which will just be so much more convenient to use. The image quality won't be as good, but most expensive compacts these days are more than good enough, unless you plan to print poster size photos and they wont be as quick, but they are just so much more convenient.

A couple of possible compromises might be a Canon S95 or Panasonic DMC-LX5, they're expensive, but picture quality is pretty well as good as it is currently possible to get from a compact, or maybe a 'mirror-less SLR' like the Olympus PEN or Sony NEX, which are a lot smaller than most 'full' DSLRs, but have most or all (in the case of the Sony NEX) advantages.

Sorry, this has probably only muddied the water still further, but when I started typing this, I thought it might help!

PS. One further thought: Jessops clearance section sometimes have some good bargains and currently they've got a Canon SX200 IS for £120, amongst others, which might be worth considering. Remember to use Quidco and QUIDCOFIVE discount code to get another 10-12% or so off, which could make quite a bargain, IMO, if you don't mind the odd light scratch or battered box, or possibly bits missing.
