Fab camera, mine cost a lot more.
Panasonic have just announced a new model so it may go even lower.
#2
Panasonic have just announce the successor to this camera, the TZ8, so expect price cuts all round on this and the TZ7 models.
#3
Oh good, I'm after a TZ-7 but don't want to pay over £200 for it.
#4
The TZ8 will be 12.1mp and the TZ10 over 14mp, both come with manual exposure settings and 720p HD Video. They are due for release in mid March so expect the TZ6 and 7 to drop in price dramatically over the coming 2 months.
#5
Fabulous camera, OK price (has been a little lower in the past and will probably go lower again).

Hot.
#6
Has a 1/2.5 inch CCD sensor.
#7
it's actually 179.99, can be found cheaper elsewhere(not by much):

Good camera and price, just be careful that flash is powerful enough for your needs. It is also in an awkward location that is easy to cover with hand if not careful (although this not unique to TZ6).
#9
Is there going to be a TZ9?
#10
If you want a great little point and shoot get a Lumix LX3, or wait for the LX4.
#11
Is this the best long zoom compact available at this price? I've seen the Fuji F70/72EXR which has good reviews, but I think this one and it's big brother the TZ7 (which is the same but does HD video) are widely regarded as the best compacts going in this price bracket.

I just paid £230 for TZ7 and an 8gb memory card at http://www.simplyelectronics.net/ with free delivery.

its £213 for the camera. for the sake of £13 you might as well have the camera now rather than waiting...

Good to know :)

My TZ5 has performed really well in all the time that I have owned it. I'm most impressed with the quality of the photos it takes as well as its movie capabilities. I will have to search around to see what will be improved on those newer models yet to appear.

A bit more information here...

Have you read the reviews for Simply Electronics? Apparently they are based in Hong Kong so the camera will be a grey import and not covered by Panasonic under warranty. Discussed on the thread below...

I should think so, that may be followed by a TZ10?
#16
I was going to post this as a deal as the price is good .. however, most stores only have 1 of these left, and from the 2 local Argos stores I've been in, they've been the display model and are usually marked in some way (both I saw in-store had scratches on the LCD screen).

Personally, I'd pay the fiver extra and get a new one from Amazon
#17
i hear you need to buy original batteries with this camera now as third party ones no longer work?

When the new Firmware version 1.2 came out for the Tz7, this was a problem, but now you can get replacement batteries from Amazon or Play.com between £12-£15 that work with the new Firmware.

It's a great camera I'm sure. And having 12x optical zoom should make it extremely versatile. However, the one crucial thing missing from it and the TZ7s 8s etc is an electronic viewfinder (aka EVF.)

I have a similar sized old Nikon S4 with 10x optical but it also only has the LCD screen and as soon as you are out in bright sunlight, you can't really see what you're taking. With an EVF (basically an old style viewfinder you put your eye up to) you're looking at the image on a mini LCD but in a darker surround and it's much easier to frame and focus your shots.

I also have a Panasonic FZ28 which I love and I just use the viewfinder all the time for taking the photos/videos and only use the back screen for playing them back. Using the EVF also makes the battery last longer per charge too.

Just my thoughts but still a good deal.

Same price at John Lewis as well:

remember the higher the megapixels the worse the noise will be...

I dont understand why people think more megapixels are better... for a nice easy explanation:

Thats interesting.... I must confess I havent read that thread. The product clearly states its the TZ7 - Not the DMC-ZS3. if they have infact sold me a DMC-ZS3 instead of a TZ7. I will be sending it back for a full refund. I will also query Panasonic with the Serial number to confirm the warranty.

I got TZ-7 for £180 from US including delivery and taxes on ebay just before christmas so not so hot deal..

Surely it's pixel density that really matters, not number of pixels per se. ; although I agree more pixels isn't necessarily going to mean better photos.

Looking around (and as pointed out earlier by earlier post) most stores that have any, do only appear to have 1 in stock so they could all well be display models released for sale.

Could you provide a link to which batteries will work please?

I hear that you need to buy the secure Id batteries and as far as I am aware, there are no non-
OEMs that work. Retailers have been withdrawing batteries now.

How long before the price drop. I want to get a TZ-7 for my wife at the end of Feb. I assume it will be at least May before we realistically see any price drops. It's £240 at the moment at Amazon for a TZ-7.

Also, have you seen the 3 yr warranty which applies only to instore purchases in stores that can give camera demos, i.e. not Argos!

Is there going to be a TZ9?

I got an email from photographyblog.com yesterday that mentioned a Panasonic press release saying that the new TZ cameras will be TZ8 and TZ10 - so no TZ9.
I've got a TZ5 and don't think I really need to upgrade yet, as the only new outstanding feature on the TZ10 is GPS - might be good if you travel so much that you can't remember where you went, but, probably just a really good way to run down batteries and to waste time, waiting for a GPS lock.
A couple of weeks ago I spoke to someone who had a TZ3. A lovely solid metal case. Shame Panasonic cut costs and quality.

From Pcworld and Dixons you can get the Tz65 for another £20, which has a 3" screen compared to the 2.7" on this model, and the resolution of the screen is much higher,
Well worth the extra £20.
:)

Good features, image stabilizer has improved and selector dial has been moved to another position, which seems to be a problem with the Tz7 range. also new resolution engine.
Sounds good, would like it, but when the TZ7 drops in price to maybe £200 hopefully, how much of a difference will there be with the TZ8, maybe £100?

I was quite impressed how useful it is to have this data embedded in the photo. It's nice when you get back off hols to be able to view the pic and go straight to google maps to find out where in the world you were. This was on the iPhone mind, but I'm sure the battery consumption wouldn't be too bad on a camera, it only has to turn on and get a lock, not keep updating your location.

Concur with that, double the screen res on the TZ65 to the TZ6 - only bought one last week. Had I known about the new models I might have waited to see if the TZ7 would drop in price but not missing out on much compared to the TZ65. TZ65 is currently £199 which is a great price point even though it's a special model so DSG don't have to price match against other Pannys.
#37
Interestingly, the Argos price has now INCREASED to £199.99. I tried to buy one last week at the lower price, but no stock anywhere in my area. And now the price is up and still no stock.

So I'll give my business to John Lewis instead, assuming they ever get more stock in and also assuming they keep the price under £180!
