I read from this test that the Samsung WB500 (US model HZ10W) is the better deal at £164 with same quality. It confirms my believe that Panasonic is completely over-priced, not just with their cameras but also with their stupid propriator battery policy.

Oops forgot to mention how renowned Samsung are for cameras!

I tend to stick to the main four, Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Sony, mostly for the brand but also for the Canon/Nikon/Leica/Carl Zeiss Lenses which I trust, with Samsung, Casio, Fuji, etc all wannabes of prosumer market imo

Fuji have been making cameras for decades they are in no sense wanabees.

Delusional - but I guess someone must buy them or they wouldn't still be in business.

I'd support Panasonic any day but if they have a serious rival it's Canon, not Samsung.

What do ppl base their opinion on? Mine is based on test reports AND personal use.

I have to agree the Samsung is considered a very good alternative to the Panasonic TZ7. Samsung don't often get things right with cameras with the WB500 they did. Panasonic's recent range though have been excellent and this is a good price or this model.

If you contact Amazon.co.uk by email and explain the price drop they will refund you the difference, they did the same for me just before Christmas.

No problem, however I think most people are waiting to see what price the camera drops to when the new range is released shortly.
#15
I know, I couldn't wait any longer though. I'm off on holiday next week so the new range will have to wait :(

Have just sent them a mail asking for a bit of goodwill.

Thanks again!

Great camera, I have a red one myself that I got just before New Year. But be aware that Panasonic have announced the replacement model with a GPS sensor for geotagging.

Wish I had known it was coming, I would have waited.
#17
Is this £212 at http://electronics.simplyelectronics.net

I've never used this place and for a bit extra Amazon are one of the big players with customer support etc..

This is a great camera with real optical stabilisation etc.. very tempted.

The AVC support is also nice.
#18
Personally if I was spending this much money on a digital camera I would go for a DSLR. For £80 more you could get a Sony alpha 230 or an Olympus E420.

erm, Fuji has made the best compact camera ever, in the F31fd. I've had a TZ3 and a TZ5 (to supplement my DSLR) and have sold them both in favour of keeping my F31fd. However, I'm in the market for a new camera for the Missus, and may go with this, as I have some Amazon vouchers to spend.
#20
I have been waiting for what seems ages now to see this price drop from amazon, will it drop more? or is it better to wait until we see the test results on the new TZ8, and will it be worth the extra money. If there is a difference of £100, then i will go for the TZ7, Pity the TZ8 has the smaller low res screen too!

Stupid I agree - but not half as stupid as Sony's stupid proprietary memory card policy!e]

What - so once you've taken a picture you have to wait around for 10 minutes while it gets a GPS lock - or forever if you're indoors? ;-)

So, on a sample of three models (two from the same manufacturer), Fuji has made the best compact camera ever?

Looks like the new models are already up for pre-order on Amazon.co.uk for a 8th & 15th March 2010 release.

Although Amazon are great for customer service, from the reviews it looks like this place is good too - and they give a 2 year warranty on cameras

http://www.buyacamera.co.uk/

The TZ7 is £221.98 delivered in red, taupe or black.

I think I would go for the extra years warranty for the extra £1.97... but I am hanging on for prices to drop further.

Sorry mate, I should have explained myself better. I am actually going to wait until May to see if the TZ7's price falls a bit more....unless the replacement is sub-£300.

I'm going to hold out for TZ10 release next month - currently £315 on Amazon pre-order but hoping price will drop after release. Think TZ7 prices will drop after this time. Hope it happens before April when we go on holiday to Norway!

I posted the buyacamera.co.uk deal the other day and it didn't get voted very hot, but as already noted the reviews are all good and comes with 2 year company guarantee.

Not just my opinion though. Look at the reviews!! The TZ3 and the TZ5 were supposed to be the best of their generations, but the F31 IMHO beats them for PQ, even though it's older than both. Even John Bentley from the Gadget Show said so on TV, the other week ;)

Bloody hell. It is under £300 too. I wonder if it's worth the extra money over the TZ7? What about the TZ10?

Maybe so but I would think that the big selling point of the TZ7 over the F31 is the 12x zoom compared to the 3x on the F31... oh and the ability to record HD video in stereo. I agree that PQ is of main importance but if the zoom is important to you then the F31 would fall down I guess on that.
#31
Yep, agree with you on that. 12x zoom and HD video is very handy. The F31fd is no longer made anyway. And to get this 3 year old, 3x, 6mp camera s/h will set you back well over £100. And in some silly cases even towards £200. I can remember just after they discontinued it, they were fetching £3-400!! Some crazy people about!!
#32
Looks a good price however threes a good few new compact cameras coming out soon -

Sony HX5
Fuji F80
Casio FH100
Panny TZ10
Panny TZ8
Samsung WB650
Samsung WB600
Nikon S8000
#33
Take a look at this group test of all the best cameras with long zoom around this price tag here, you'll see there isn't much in it between them.

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/q209grouplongzoom/

I was looking at the TZ7, but apparently they dont take a good picture indoors or in the dark. If you look at a lot of the reviews for this camera they aren't that favourable.

Reports of terrible battery performance and the screen on the TZ7 cracks easily also. I ended up getting a Sony DSC-H20 (after having a Fuji S2000HD which I sent straight back as the image quality was terrible).

No, he is right. The Fuji he refers to is a legendary camera.
This was just prior to the megapixel arms race. This camera is the low light king, which is where most digital cameras below DSLR suffer.

The f31 refurbs were selling at the same price as new ones such was the demand.

not optimistic about a sub £150 price, but if it drops as low as say £179 (especially in the red finish) then ill be happy

Any ideas for warranty extension plans?
