What do you mean dropped the price again? It's been £188 for about 6 months... £9 is £9 but no really enough to make an amazing deal.
#6
been this price for a while...

I just bought TZ8 for £200 from Amazon. I hope I made good decision on choosing TZ8 over TZ7.
#8
Wasn't this the camera which currys had at £150 a while back?

You have to wonder how much more stock they have now it's been discontinued.... good cam, i got one for £188 and very pleased with the excellent results. Amazing close up capaility if you like that sort of thing

I got the TZ10 for the GPS logging. If you don't think you would ever need your photos tagging with GPS data then yes the TZ7 is an excellent choice. The TZ8 is the follow up to the TZ7 (not the TZ10). Currently if you get a TZ10 or TZ8 you can get £30 cashback from Panasonic (my cheque turned up yesterday). Unfortunately this offer is not available for the TZ7.

Shhhh! People have been flogged for saying things like that! (I tried to say similar recently after the TZ10 dropped another pound, and got shot down). "But can it be had cheaper elsewhere? No? Then it's a great deal" seems to be the line. Hardly "hot". What is this place coming to.

It's not just the feature set - but many argue that the TZ10 has stretched the sensor too far (in terms of megapixels mainly) and the image quality of the TZ7 comes out best. I don't own either so I cannot say.

Surely the TZ8 is the better deal, then? £198.30 @ Amazon, with the £30 cashback that's £168.30.

I hate to break it to you, but you paid £20 more for the inferior camera. The TZ8 is the lesser model in the 2010 range, whereas the TZ7 was the superior model in the 2009 range. You really should research thoroughly before buying any camera.

£180 for a Panasonic Lumix TZ7 is beyond a bargain! I bought this a year ago right when it was released for over £300. And it's a FANTASTIC camera! In fact, three of my friends have gone out and bought this camera over the past year based purely on seeing mine in use.

tz8 doesnt rec HD movies in AVCHD it very cost cut version of tz7, tz10 is really follower tz7 line but I heard about poorer photo quality and body built, tz7 sounds much better choise I was waiting for this camera to drop like 160 but I really doubt it will happen, most propably prize will go up as amazon doing some prize drop to accelerate their sales on discontinued products....and later prize is going sharply up

Careful when you update the firmware - it will kill all panasonic battery clones - the batteries from panasonic can cost you a fortune...

Overall the Panasonic is a better camera however. The video quality is much better than the Samsung and has suffers from less noise in both pics and video. It's a bit ridiculous calling the solidly built Panny overpriced.

Oh, and just call it ebay. (_;)

Not exactly pocket friendly though is it? The best camera in the world doesn't take good pics if you don't take it with you because it's too big. Invalid comparison I think.

The 2.7 lcd screen loses a lot of points with me, mind.
The next cam i get will be 3.0" no less.

i bought one of these a year ago and its brilliant in the day and for zooming in close
but takes crap pictures in the dark as i find the flash useless unless you are less than three feet away from the subject

Been watching this for a few weeks at Amazon. As has been said earlier, it was £188 for a long while. I'm waiting for it to drop a bit further, I think, as I'm not desperate for it. Knowing my luck the stocks will be exhausted before they reduce again!!
#25
I fancied a TZ5 when the TZ7 came out and dallied too long watching amazon's price do yoyo impressions; missed it, was gutted but thought I'll just wait for the TZ7 to drop below £200. I waited quite a bit but eventually it did around May-June this year. Then I dallied again and it dropped to £189 mid-June but it was too close to going on holiday to risk buying then. So when I came back early July, I checked the price and it dropped again to £181. I got twitchy but thought I'll just wait a bit more, then one morning I woke up and it had rocketed to £238 again!!!
Aaargh! BUT I waited and again the price came down to £188 - this time I bought! I've had it now about 2 weeks and am loving it! I'm playing with exposure settings and things I'd never understood but it's making me feel like I'm learning to take photographs all over again. Great fun.
I suspect the price will rocket again as the stock gets limited and people equate the pros of a tested good camera versus the pros (or cons) of new technology/gimmicks.

Think you just put me off this :( I've been looking for an easy camera to use with good optical zoom and excellent image quality but must be good at night. Is there such a thing which isn't more exzpensive?

Unfortunately not, the TZ7 is still the best of the recent Lumix cameras to buy hence why its holding price.
Got mine for £149.99 from Vennel Cameras and its superb.

To me there is a lot of hype about these TZ cameras. They are compacts with compact size sensors. They only do so much before they get noisy, and Panasonics do get noisy. They encourage bad photography..holding a camera at arms length to take a shot. They produce good results but I really don't understand why th3ese TZ's are always considered the camera to have.

Unless i'm missing it in the spec, this is one of those screen only / no viewfinder models, yes? ridiculous notion...

I've bought one from here and its been working fine for the last 6 months (paid 9.99 then). Might not last more than 2 years, but better than forking out £30!!

I got a TZ10 the other month. Agree its a good camera.

Some reviews say the TZ7 takes better pictures because it has a few less pixels, so they each have more space on the sensor.

The only other thing to be aware of on the TZ6 or TZ7 is that they don't have "manual" options. You can only use them on automatic. The introduction of manual settings was one of the big changes to the TZ8 & TZ10.

I have to say that I think this TZ Panasonic range is good (all have the same opticals). I stuck mine on full zoom and took a picture of the moon the first night I had it, and you could actually see the craters and mountain ranges.

Great price

Man, I just ordered the TZ7 last week. Of, well. Heat. Heat. Heat.

Bought this camera a month ago at £184, testing this out and very pleased with results so far. Very easy to use and the 3.0 LCD screen is the added bonus.

I have noticed a drawback in all Panasonic cameras including TZ series. They are the least weatherproof cameras in the market. I travel to extreme temperatures very often ( -20 to +45) and a Panasonic camera simply does not perform. I know, I don't expect Pentax DSLR kind of dust-shake mechanism or snow/ water proofing, but the Panasonic sensor is very vulnerable to any extremes. Sony or Pentax Optio series compacts function much better. I have owned them all over last couple of years and hence have noticed the difference.

However, the overall advantages a TZ 7 offers makes it one of the best compact cameras in the market.

So you've just ruled out 99% of compacts then! Good luck with the rest (bricks).

There's a lot more to a good camera than the sensor: the lens is probably the most overlooked item on compacts (maybe because it doesn't come with a simple numerical measure like the sensor). Panasonic TZ lenses (branded Leica) are superb.
#39
If viewfinder is a must then buy a DSLR or a Bridge camera. Otherwise, the TZ7 is a fabulous compact camera... one of the best if the not THE BEST! Since the price is great grab one now as I´m sure it´ll soon be hard to find due to the new model TZ10, which doesn´t add much value.

No, that was the TZ65 - model specifically for the DRG group. It sat midway between the TZ6 and the TZ7. Had the larger LCD of the TZ7, but not the HD video and had face tracking of the TZ6, not the face reconition of the TZ7.

Excellent cameras!
