Just been in my local Sainsburys in Macclesfield and noticed a camera sale was on - the pick of the bunch is the TZ8 down to £149.99.

This is now only instore - sold out online.

Cracking camera and still quite sought after for it's features.

Loads of reviews online - here is one from Cnet which gives it a very good write up - http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/compact-digital-cameras/panasonic-lumix-dmc-tz8-review-49305809/

Some blurb from the Sainsburys site:

Photography enthusiasts have been waiting for this camera! The 12.1 megapixel DMC-TZ8 features a 25mm wide-angle 12x optical zoom f/3.3-4.9 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens (35mm camera equivalent: 25-300mm) in a compact body. Offering about twice the shooting area of the standard 35mm lens, it gives you loads of options for amazing shots. The powerful 12x zoom can also be used in motion picture recording. In 3 megapixel resolution mode, the Extra Optical Zoom function provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power to 23.4x by using the centre part of the CCD.

The Intelligent Resolution Technology gives a high resolution look to digital zoom images as well as ordinary images. The image is divided into contour areas, texture areas and smooth areas, with optimum image processing applied to each type of area.

Hand-shake correction capacity is nearly doubled, so you can take beautiful night shots without blurring. Other features include Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection AF/AE with Face Recognition, Intelligent Scene Selector with Sunset Mode, Intelligent Exposure and AF Tracking - the camera does all the work in iA Mode. And Happy Mode is newly added to the DMC-TZ8, optimising colour saturation and brightness for vividly memorable scenes.
The DMC-TZ8 can record HD movie (1,280x720 pixels at 30 fps in Motion JPEG format). The pixel mixed readout method enables bright motion-picture recording even in low-light settings.

If you want more control over settings, manual function allows you to fine-tune results. Aperture-priority Mode lets you open the aperture up wide for stunning portraits with softly focused backgrounds. Shutter-priority Mode makes it possible to express the dynamic power of a flowing stream by slowing down the shutter speed. And Manual Exposure Mode gives you total control of special shots, allowing you to achieve a higher level of photographic beauty.

very good deal for a very good camera

good deal
TZ10 now below £200 (w/o cashback)
Hoping TZ18/20 brings them down more or should I buy a TZ20 - decisions!

Cracking price for I'm guessing what is a superb camera. I've got the TZ65 and it's cracking.

Paid about the same for mine so the TZ8 for this price is superb.

not a bad deal,

got my TZ10 for £120 (including £30 cashback), can't complain considering the TZ20 is £350 to preorder at amazon.
The new one looks interesting, something about 3d images?
#13
Great price for an excellent camera but I rarely see the Sainsbury's in store deals on the shelves.

did you get yours when currys were selling them off at £149.99? thats when i got mine. hasn't been impressing me lately - grainy images no matter what setting, a constant shadow in bottom left of the screen when using the flash, and an annoying sound of the zoom motor whirring away on video playback. i got the extra cover on the camera, but i want to wait 'til they get a great offer like this one in again. wouldn't mind trying a cannon this time but not really clued up on which are the better ones.

I have a TZ3.
What I's like to know is has anyone made a similar "upgrade" to a TZ8 and noticed any real improvement in the photos? I know the new ones have more pixels, but better photos is what I really pay for.

I've made that change and now have a TZ10. To be honest the improvement is not massive but the later models are significantly slimmer (downside: smaller battery). I think it moved from 10x zoom to 12x too. TZ8 has the smaller screen with lower resolution than TZ10; can't remember what was on the TZ3.

In many ways the DSG exclusive TZ9 is the ideal - it's a TZ10 without the gimmicks like GPS. Maybe keep a look out at Currys/PCW pricing?

Frankly, the TZ3 is such a good camera I'd say stick with it for now if it's all working fine.

Very tempted by this deal... however I'm equally tempted by...

ebay 380227552764 TZ10 £157.89 + £9.99 RMSD

Baring in mind, although this is brand new / sealed, its an American import and only has 90 days warranty.

Any thoughts?

Energizer DMW-BCG10 Digital Camera / Camcorder Battery - 7dayshop £9.99 delivered. Compatible with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ8.

I made the jump from a TZ3 to a TZ65 (TZ6/TZ7 hybrid) and the pictures are noticeably sharper and less noisy, the screen is way better and viewable from any angle (not sure about the TZ8 screen as it's a bit smaller and lower res than mine).
Only made the change because I dropped and broke the TZ3. Like Besford says it's a hard call to junk a perfectly good camera for an increase in quality that might not be big enough to justify.

I have a ZX3 from Costco - for £107.

Any idea how this compares? Can't find much info on the ZX3.

Worth me taking it back and buying this?

Yes got mine from curry's last year. Had Nikon prior to that but made the mistake of buying a really slimline Nikon Coolpix S series andit was so small I had to use two hands to hold it safely. Prefer this as it's a little chunkier and the zoom and quality are excellent.

I couldn't see them at my local Sainsbury's :( Hot though.

Asked in Hedge End Sainsbury & was told that there are none in stock for miles around!
The computer system showed the TZ8 to be on hold which the assistant says means currently not expecting any more in.......
Have registered for email for when next in stock on-line just in case

Dixons Duty Free at a 'London' airport are doing the TZ9 for £166, looks like this model is specific to the Dixons group, anyone know if it's any good? Any feedback?

Yes, TZ9 is a DSG exclusive. It's a TZ10 without toys like GPS. Bigger screen than TZ8, etc. Good buy at that price.

ZX3 is smaller (8x zoom like ZX1?). Wife's ZX1 not quite as good as my TZ10 but more pocketable. Very good value at that price.

Gone oos for now but looks good value for what looks like a Panasonic branded soft leather case

I had a TZ65, then upgraded (under Currys Warranty for £10) to the TZ10, quickly regretted it. Video was much more useable on the TZ65.

I would suggest getting TZ8 or TZ9, in preference to the TZ10 - because the TZ10 has nasty video lag.

On TZ65, you set dial to video mode, prefocus with shutter button, then fully depress shutter and instantly video starts recording, nice and sharp - no noticeable delay.

With TZ10, you press one touch NOT SO instant video button, and then wait (what seems eternity, while you miss the action) for a second or two before it starts recording (seems the one touch button first has to set the camera internally to video mode, then can start the video recording**). The non icing on the cake, is that the TZ10 when it does start recording in out of focus, requiring a little longer again to start recording as it should (sharp pictures). Then you have to edit the TZ10 footage to get rid of the 2-3 seconds opening video. To top it off the ergonomics of swapping from back mounted video button to top mounted zoom controls makes steady video shoting more difficult - the thumb button on the TZ10 is more jerky when starting or stopping video, and difficult to move from thumb (start/stop button) holding method to finger (zoom controls) hold and back again smoothly - on TZ65 one grip method allows use of both start/stop and zoom controls, and far more smoothly.

The TZ65 showed non of these TZ10 video problems, and I found the TZ9 to be the same as the TZ65 in this regard. Puzzles me why reviewers and users don't mention this problem with the Panasonic One Touch Video Button on TZ10 (and I suspect TZ7). It's given countless missed moments while I wait for it to start recording, and takes a lot more time both before it starts shooting and afterwards to clean up it's video clips.

** I think it's better putting TZ65 in video mode once, then getting instant response and sharp videos for every video taken with the normal shutter release button (with two stage depression for focus and start/stop) . . . rather than on TZ10 where pressing the one touch button has to put the camera in video mode each and every time before shooting can start, adding delay to every video shot, rather than just the first one in that batch.
