is this really that much better than the TZ5 / TZ7?

I know the TZ7 had HD stereo recording and AVCCHD lite so you could actually play back your footage on something other than the camera (TZ5 used .MOV files) but this seems more of the same.

Looks like the main selling point is a few tweaked internals & SDXC card compatability. Now you can carry up to 64GB on the go.

Seemingly the image stabilizing is meant to be better, uses a different system i think and a few other enhancements, The only concern is that noone has actually put one through the test yet, so it is a big chance to take.

Don't forget that the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 Digital Camera (12.1MP, 12x Optical Zoom) 3.0 inch LCD - Black is also up for pre-order @ £314.99.

I'll wait then for the TZ37. :-D

OMG, you weren't kidding. Built in GPS so you don't forget where you were.

Yep - I think the image stabilization is the same as on the ZX1 but I can't see it being worth the difference. I'm hoping the TZ6 and 7 drop in price when these come out and I'll snap one up.

the new model also features new POWER O.I.S (Optical Image Stabilizer) which features a double the suppression power compared to the conventional image stabilization system, MEGA O.I.S. The hand-shake, which is physically generated when pressing the shutter button or when shooting at night with a slow shutter speed, is effectively compensated by the new POWER O.I.S. to enjoy blur-free photography.

Isn't that what I was saying? The ZX1 has Power OIS. Or maybe you were just agreeing with me. Had a glass or two of wine so I am not too sure.

Guys please, if your spending this kind of money on a P&S camera then seriously consider the LX3, or wait till after the Camera show in Brum 7th-10th March where Panasonic is announcing two new cameras, one 'G' and the heavily rumoured successor to the LX3, the new LX4.

I've been looking for a LX3 for over a year now but the bu**er won't come down in price. It started out around £320 and went up from there, it's now back down around £315 but it's still too much. Things might improve when in March, as you say, the LX4 might be on the market.

Fingers crossed.

Very tempting to wait for TZ7 prices to drop once TZ8 released. Didnt think GPS was needed in a camera, but can see the benefit of uploading to Google maps after holidays abroad. I always forget place names!!!! Not sure I can afford the TZ10 prices though!!!

LX3 is quite a bit more expensive at the moment - on Amazon its £316 and from the quick look I had it required more user involvement that TZ series. I want a good quality camera that can take decent shots in auto mode, but can be tweaked as required. I have DSLR for playing with properly and I need a compact for my day to day handbag camera. £200 for TZ7 now or wait until TZ10 comes out???

Is it considered to be a better camera than the TZ7/8?? Nice looking and obviously well built but it's the measly zoom that puts me off.

OK, I was looking at one of the Panasonic's around £100 but you guys have convinced me to go via Amazon.com and get an FS1 (or maybe an FS3) for about $200.

Don't forget VAT and Customs charge when it arrives in the UK, also will the USA charger work in the UK or will you have to buy an adapter.

Friend who lives in Texas is bringing it over for me so no customs probs- thanks for the tip on the charger. Looks like it'll cost me 12.99 from Play if I can't use an adaptor.

As I said I was gonna buy a cheaper model but I'm quite excited about this now. The first really good camera I've bought since my S/H Nikon F2 almost 20 years ago!

It's the best P&S you can buy. Easily. I know many professionals that carry it around. For low light shooting especially, the LX3 is pretty unbelieveable.

The LX3 will shot in RAW mode, you can tweak away till your hearts content.

It's only 249.99 delivered with a free 4gb SDHC, leather case and tripod at bestcameras (just in case you fancy that route instead of Amazon). I still voted voted BTW

Slightly better prices I agree but I'm not 100% happy with either company inasmuch as they don't seem to want anyone to know where they operate from!

you could always visit someone like warehouseexpress.co.uk and get them to price match.

Beware the LX3 only has 2.5X Optical zoom (equiv to 24-60mm) which is pants compared to the tz7/8 & 10 being 12X which is equiv to 25-300mm on a SLR camera:thumbsup:

Yeah, that's the big put-off with the LX3. Otherwise it is by far the better camera. I'd love the LX3 and the TZ10 but it would seem a little pointless.....and expensive. I really need some good advice!

I did hear that the LX3 replacement will have a much improved optical zoom. They'll probably release it a week after I buy the TZ8/10.

Screw it, I bought the bloody TZ10!
