A really great camera, similar to a TZ6 (only 8x zoom though as opposed to 12x). Considerably slimmer though (more pocketable) and with fairly decent HD video (allowing optical zooming). Great image quality, bought one myself (white) from Dabs a couple of months ago, very happy with it. Can't think of a better buy at this price.

This a lot of camera for the money. The new ZX3 is out but not much of an improvement on this by all accounts.

I was holding out for the TZ7 to drop in price, but this is really tempting ....

I cannot see the TZ7 getting much cheaper than it is. You could run the risk of all stock running out. I've not used the ZX1 but the TZ7 is the best compact that I have ever had and I've had more than a few!

The TZ7 is £188 on Amazon.

Don't forget quidco that's another 65p off!!! Quite amusing really.

You can't have everything! The update to this model the ZX3 does indeed have AVC-HD Lite, but at the mo it's around £200 from a reputable retailer, so if you're really after this feature then the TZ7 from Amazon at £188 is for you.

The video from the ZX1 is very good though, although the file sizes are considerably larger than AVC-HD. No stereo sound either as opposed to the TZ7. But at least you can budget for a few large SDHC cards!

Yeah the TZ7 is a nice camera, i'm hoping £100 cameras come out with HD AVC-HD lite come out soon, they are rather expensive at the moment :(

How does this compare with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS9 which is' half price' at Comet for £119?

It's also £99.99 at Amazon - I posted the deal this morning here:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/707232/canon-ixus-95is-10-mp-digicam-silve

I haven't tried the ixus 95, although I own an older ixus 70 which takes very good quality pics. I'd say the ixus is a lot smaller and a great camera to have in your pocket when you go out in a evening, but the panasonic ZX1 is a great versatile all rounder. The ixus is only 3x optical zoom starting at a meagre 35mm whereas the ZX1 has a fantastic 25mm wide angle + 8x optical zoom. It's still fairly pocketable too.

The DMC-FS9 is 3mm slimmer than the ZX1 (otherwise pretty much same size), but the ZX1 has a better spec. For me the 25mm wide angle is a winner every time.

I have the ZX1 and have been very happy with it, still to learn how to get the best of it, but very good for a point and shoot. Have had some great videos from it, which look amazing when played back on the HD tv. For me it was a compromise from the TZ7 but the wide angle lens and 8X zoom have been very good. I payed (sorry OH payed ;P ) more than this and if it had been this price I would have very pleased. The other thing that people mentioned was battery life with the panasonics, but so far no complaints :)

same as K7thj above real

got a ZX1 over the TZ7 mainly due to size, cant fault it, battery lasts and lasts, video quality is spot on, pictures great too,

hot, sending it my the link my dads way as he wants to get my mum a new camera.

GOT MINE
Can not wait for this to arrive:-D

gone for one, thanks. I was in 2 minds between this and the fuji f70 exr which can be had for about £10 more and gets rave 'expert' reviews but I think this is supposed to be easier to get good photos and I'm no photographer.

Arrived last week, box just wrapped in one of the usual courier's plastic bag. So up to play.com's usual packaging standards then..... Box bit bashed, so just as well it wasn't for a gift, but contents
were safe.

Good wee camera, but unfortunately, after previewing on the screen and checking the images, found about 4 dust blotches :-( How obvious they are, the number and size tends on the aperture used for the photo.

Hopefully, I'm just unlucky, but the best way to check yours is to focus lock by pressing the shutter down halfway, then preview a live image - using something a like a blank P.C white screen or sky, etc for a subject - and then inspect the resultant jpg file too.

Checked my lens for dust, etc and nothing found so looks like there is dust on the sensor. Which is obviously a problem in manufacture ... and very disappointing and not good on a new camera, or for my first Panasonic - after about xx Canons over the years.....

So in the Return process, and awaiting word from Play's agents Kuehne & Nagel ....

I would assume you're very unlucky. Never noticed anything on mine - just checked though and it's absolutely perfect.

Cameras can really vary from batch to batch. Had a Ricoh Caplio R8 (replacement for an R7) and I was never really happy with it. Corners and one side of the images always looked soft. I sent it back and the replacement was absolutely pin sharp from corner to corner - it was like a totally different camera. Hopefully your replacement should be fine.

HHmm - I had to phone play.com to chase about the camera, absolutely no communication from anybody since I confirmed delivery via Royal Mail - and yes confirmed sensor dust problems. Well it would have been nice to have informed about that ......

Can't replace as it is 'not in stock' and 'don't know when it is coming back in' ie camera is £188 now. So will refund the purchase price and the return postage £6.70 - in three days. 'No we can't exchange it with a different colour, the system won't allow it' (The blue version is cheaper than silver now)
