Panasonic LZ7 7.2mp 6 x Optical Zoom 2.5 inch LCD Screen
£63.51 delivered

The DMC-LZ7 boasts 7.2-megapixel recording, a powerful 6x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 37-222mm on a 35mm film camera) and convenient AA battery operation. plus a bright, easy-to-see 2.5-inch LCD. Thanks to Panasonic's careful redesign inside and out, the LZ7 has a more stylish and higher-quality appearance than previous models, and is smaller and lighter despite using AA batteries.
The new Venus Engine III image processing engine gives them even higher image quality and speedier processing. The LZ7 also incorporates the Intelligent Image Stabilization system, which which comprises two features -- Mega O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) and Intelligent ISO Control -- that together make it easy to capture beautiful photos every time you shoot. Mega O.I.S. compensates for the effects of hand-shake, making it possible to capture clear, crisp photos indoors, at night, when taking macro close-ups, or using high powered zooming -- situations in which hand-shake is most likely to be a problem. Even Mega O.I.S., however, cannot suppress the motion blur caused by a subject moving as the photo is being snapped. That's where Intelligent ISO Control comes in. In this system, the camera's Venus Engine III image-processing engine detects whether the subject is moving and, as necessary, raises the ISO setting and shutter speed according to the degree of movement and light conditions. This happens automatically, so you can shoot without the bother of adjusting settings every time conditions change. Lumix and its powerful Intelligent Image Stabilization system do all the work for you. You enjoy easy, trouble-free shooting in any situation and get the satisfaction that comes with capturing clear, beautiful images.

Memory cards: Panasonic have built 27mb (enough for about 9 shots) of memory into the DMC LZ7. Therefore no memory card is supplied. The camera is compatible with SD and SDHC cards.

Seems so.. :)

Looks like a decent camera to me, good review. :)

WAS considering this but there are quite a few notsogood reviews around.
Eats Batteries. Bulky. No Viewfinder. Noise on photos.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7K was an interesting candidate to "do it all". 6x zoom, convenience of AA batteries, and Mega OIS, all looked to be great features. The OIS worked very well, the 6x zoom was a refreshing feature in a "compact" camera but what I thought was a convenience in AA batteries actually turned out to be a curse. This camera devours AA's. I was lucky to get 50 - 60 shots (most without using the flash) before the 2500 mAh NiMH batteries were completely drained. The viewfinder was sharp and clear unless viewed in direct sunlight. Like others have stated the camera is bulkier and heavier compared to most other ultra compacts.

The Venus Engine III and the Lumix Vario Element lens proved to be this camera's biggest downfalls. All the shots I took were quite noisy and lacked detail. I found the best "quality" shots were taken with ISO set to either 100 or 200. Anything more and the image suffers. The "Night Scenery" mode allowed for some really nice night / low light pictures but you'll need a tripod. Continuous shooting speeds (without the flash) were a pleasant surprise and I've found the menu systems on Panasonic cameras are very easy to navigate. Have to agree with the others on the video function and the lack of a microphone / speaker (?)

It's a decent camera as long as you aren't planning on making prints larger than 5x7's. Just be sure to have plenty of freshly charged AA's along for the ride

too bad it uses AA batteries, I just got Kodak a EasyShare M763 on Amazon for 70£, only 3X optical, 7MP but has got Li-ion battery.
voted hot though

Agreed - good camera, good price, just a shame it takes AA not Li-ion

Can you not get AA li-ion rechargables?

Thanks for this posty...

...at this price point ~£65, what do people think...is this better (value for money) than the Casio Exilim Z1050 posted here...

I'm not bothered about Megapixels and taking AA batteries - more focussed on image quality, sharpness, focussing accuracy, colour reproduction, speed of shooting...

...all I know is this has a better OPTICAL ZOOM which is important for those distance shots...and I'll be primarily using this for indoor shots (in dark-ish situations, so has to be able to handle diffcult lighting/low-light indoors) as well as for the occassional (outdoor) holiday snaps!

All feedback/comments very much appreciated!!! :)

It's a difficult one because their quite different cameras. The z1050 has a larger than normal (for compact cameras) CCD which helps combat one of the major problems of cramming in a lot of megapixels, namely noise. On the other hand the Panasonic has an effective Optical image stabiliser which allows you take hand held shots at lower shutter speeds without encountering camera shake - this would be beneficial for your low light shots.

If most of your prints are going to be 6x4 or 7x5 you may not notice noise unless it's really bad (and you could try a noise reduction programme such as Neat Image if it does bother you) so I'd tend towards the Panasonic otherwise from what others had said about the reviews the z1050 maybe a better bet.
