Cold.
Wilko's AA LR06, £1.40 for 8 (used to be £0.95 before brexit...)
Or
IKEA's AA LR06 Alkalisk, £1.50 for 10.

:edit:

FFS hukd, if you're going to inject affiliate referrals into thread posted links, you better make sure they work..... (wilko link is broken by hukd)

You'll have to copy/pasta to use this link:

Surely the Kodak Xtralife batteries at 6 for a quid (Poundland) are much better value.

I would say if you're in need of batteries then get the regular/normal white rechargable eneloop aa/aaa batteries or even the black pro ones if you're willing to pay a bit more, great reviews online and from experience, the white aa's last for about a week in my xbox controller before they need recharging. bargain for under a tenner!

Reasonable performance according to BatteryShowdown but Kodak Xtralife better and cheaper. About £4 for the same quantity from Tesco or Poundland

Absolutely. I'm amazed at how many people are still buying crappy old alkaline batteries like it's 1985. Eneloops are simply brilliant.

It's zinc carbon that need to be banned. They're landfill even when they're in the packet.
