Hi there

Curry's are selling the very highly regarded Panasonic PT-AX200E Projector for £749.97. Which is much better retail price than anywhere else already (Comet are selling it for £899) but with the code 70SAVE you can knock £70 off bringing it to £679.97. No QuidCo unfortunately.

This is the best price I know of brand new. If anyone else know's better PLEASE tell me. I really, really want one. :-)

First post so apologies for lack of links etc.

Hi this is linked to the wrong company. Needs to be Currys, not Comet.

not sure this is worth spending £200+ more than an optoma 720p projector which can currently be had for around £450

Surely this is only a little cheaper than the £800 this was on release in March 08. This is only a 720P projector, I would either stick with a cheaper 720P like the Optomas or pay about £1000 for a entry 1080P. The only reason I would consider this is in a short throw scenario as I am pretty sure this does not need to be as far back to produce a large picture compared with the Optoma.

Don't the bulbs last max 6 months and they are about £300 for a replacement? my mistake bulbs last 2000 hrs

http://www.theplasmacentre.com/lampinfo/PANASONIC/PT-AX200E/17708

£283.46 for the bulb before delivery- ????????????/

so a further £600 a year running costs on top, doesn't seem like a great deal to me!

A plasma television has a half-life of about 60,000 hours, i'd rather plump for the top spec plasma!

Wrong

2000 hours is about 800 films - and who watches 800 films in 6 months? Hmm. (based on a film being 2.5 hours long, which most aren't are they?) .... It's going to last years isn't it, unless you use it as your main TV.

Even if you use it as a TV, for a year ... according to the 2000 hour lifetime, that's 5 and a half hours a day - now if you watch that much TV a day I think you need help :)

A projector bulb will last you EASILY for a couple of years.

Yes, there are cheaper projectors like the Epsons and Optomas which are very good, but are cheaper because they use DLP technology rather than LCD like the Panasonic. LCD projectors are usually sharper and don't suffer from the 'rainbow' effect distortion you get with DLP projectors. LCD's also allow you greater placement flexibility because they usually have larger zoom's and len shift options which DLP's usually don't. LCD's have issues of their own but according to reviews this model manages to reduce a great deal of them as well as having exceptional brightness and contract for it's price range.

And yes, the bulbs are pricey but as petermerritt points out, they should last you a good couple of years unless you intend to use them constantly. With proper care bulbs often last a great deal longer than their guaranteed period.
