The panasonic site says:

"5.1ch Virtual Surround: yes (with 2.1ch Speakers)"

Whatever that means - is 5.1ch Virtual Surround the same as 5.1ch surround?

Is this compatible with a PS3, which we use to play blu-rays? Don't really need the DVD player, as we already have one.
#16
This Deal has already been posted twice before.:?

So now it's 3 times and people are voting it hot.

That's the big question for me too.
I've been looking round for ages on a sound system to play mainly from my PS3 movies/games/play tv - and ideally I don't want the hassle of 6 speakers.
What I really want is a hi-fi with an optical in, because I'm not that arsed about surround sound, I just want better than my flat screen telly pumps out. But hi-fi systems don't seem to have optical in.

This does have optical in....and is looking like a good option....off to do some more googling on it.

Interesting ... think its time I got a new home theatre as the Pioneer one I have is giving uphill when trying to play DVDs ... and keen to have something I can pop the Touch into and use to watch movies and music from too.

Looks good ... I gonna go count my pennies and see if can afford it
#21
And that 5% code is only applicable to hard drives.
#22
The reviews I've read seem to vary a little from "cheap crap" to "superb", so nothing conclusive.
I'm going to try it anyway, you can always take them back if you're not happy with it - should pick mine up later and will try it out with my ps3.
It was either that or a fancy AV receiver/speaker set-up that I really can't be arsed with. One box, £150...hopefully it'll do the job.
#23
Seems very tempting mainly because of the convience factor for me...small size... Ideally id like to be able to connect a PS3 into it for BluRay..AND play audio off my TV on it when watching a film.... Would this be easy to do on such a thing? It didnt have any SCART sockets that I saw...
#24
These packages usually seem to come with a DVD player, and we already have one. Its cost must make up a huge proportion of the package price. I'd be interested to hear anyone who's connected this to a PS3.

It will be compatible yes, the question is will it decode DTS from the optical input. The specs say it supports DTS but that may only be from DVDs.

Ye that's the trouble with things like this. People who previously only had their standard TV sound before will think any dedicated speaker system is awesome and audiophiles think anything that isn't top of the line equipment is terrible.
#27
Spot on that JD, people should put their background to help suss out how appropriate their comment is for you.
I was an early adopter of surround sound....with pro logic receivers, then dolby digital, dts...and then I had kids, sold everything and have no idea what the score is now. I remember the first time Apocalypse Now's Flight of the Valkries was played over my surround sound and I nearly had an accident in my jeans. I'm not expecting that from these speakers - "pretty good" will suit me fine for £150.
#28
I notice they measure output power out the front at 100w but at 10% THD (total harmonic distortion) which is a bit outrageous really. Most equipment measures max output at 0.1% THD so this wont actually go anywhere close to 100w and still be listenable or even safe for the speakers
#29
yep looks good av decided to take the plunge and get one.

carn't find many reports on it
#30
2.1?! *****!

a TV is surely 2.1 nearly

also, one of these without DVD player? how? that is the amp too!
