Looks like a cracking deal hartlepool. Been on the look out for a surround system with integrated I-pod dock and this could be the baby.

Did you buy in store or online?

Been this price in Comet for a wee while now. I tried it with my second generation Ipod Touch
and it did not charge it. Bought this instead for £192 (price matched): http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/530719/PANASONIC-SC-PT470EB-K#
Works a treat with very good sound and charges my Ipod.

Only 2.1 surround would prefer 5.1 myself so not voting.
As I understand it (I am not an expert) 2.1 is only stereo. 5.1 is true home theatre surround sound and 7.1 is now available

2.1 also means no trailing wires and/or chasing out the walls in your living room! Its all about personal preference at the end of the day - personally 2.1 works for me

I got one of these boxing day and its great. Is everything i want for a compact system for my tv. Everything I want goes in via the optical from the TV a treat. The upscaling to 1080 is good and the ipod dock works fine with my old 20gb original. Have seen it for £20 cheaper at Cost-Co since .. but i know its now gone up there also. Saw it on sale in fenwicks newcastle today for £350 so £150 is still a steal. Two of my friends have since bought one after seeing mine so thats got to be a decent recommendation ...

When it comes to home cinema, I need a centre speaker.
5.1 is probably the sweet spot. 7.1 is overkill.

Theres a bit more to it than that. There are no trailing wires so to speak for the omitted centre speaker:thinking:. It's ridiculous that this unit decodes DTS yet is 2.1. What is the point?

As you say it's all about personal preference, but why bother to decode DTS on a 2.1 system

You get wireless rear speakers for this system from panasonic if you really wanted and the system is a few pounds cheaper in Costco

Sounds good... I'm quite ignorant as to how this all works, particularly in conjunction with my PS3. Do I just hook this up to my telly and I'll get 2.1 surround sound on games and blu-rays? Yet it also works on its own as a DVD player/iPod dock?

gonna get one thanks

I bought it before xmas.

+ Good Quality
+ Ipod Docking

- Not Loud for a Home Cinema System. Volume goes upto 50 and i have it at volume 25 for normal tv viewing. Dont buy this if you want a serious Home Cinema System, its more of a starter system.
- No Manual EQ, accept for the sub.

Ok for £142 i paid (Used a 5% comet Discount Code), but it was never worth more than £200 to start with in my opinion!

PS you need to buy a Digital Optical Lead, to get your normal TV progammes to play through this: select Aux on the Remote. A 3 Metre Optical Lead was £3.09 Delivered on Ebay!

AFAIK, this appears to to have poor connectivity.. on surface it looks to be ideal for me due to lack of space, but it didnt have any where I could connect my Sky Box etc to get the sound from there through this system... maybe I am wrong...

optical ?

Does the system come with an Optical Cable? I thought Scart woulda been easier? but then I guess sound quality would be poorer compared to optical? How about if I wanted to connect my console as well?

you would have to buy an optical cable if you want to connect lots of things to it you would need an av unit or some kind of switch
