In the past, typical camcorder usage centered on recording special events, such as weddings and vacation trips. Camcorder usage has evolved, however, with many consumers now demanding models that offer higher image quality than previous models. Panasonic has moved to further expand demand by creating an SD Card camcorder that fit unique applications and lend themselves to casual, everyday use. SDR-SW20 combines a rugged, compact body with waterproofing that allows use in seawater to a depth of 1.5 meters, shockproofing that protects against drops from up to 1.2 meters, and dustproofing.

World class! I always thought those underwater disposable cameras were the height of underwater photography for those without thousands of pounds at their disposal. This is a amazing!

Play have just dropped the price on this by £50, get a RAC 5% code for a further £7 off and Quidco on top, makes it less than £140, can't find refurbished cheaper!

:thumbsup:Great for general outdoor use, (HSE filming/snooping on building sites and the like!), will be able to withstand most of the mud and stuff thrown at it. :whistling:

looks good untill you read waterproof to 1.5 m - so only ok if your paddling about

I was going to buy this a few months ago but decided to go for the Sanyo VPC CA8 well worth the extra 50 pounds
#6
the Sanyo VPC CA8 only ststes 1.5m water depth as well !!! so whats the diffrence. ok Sanyo is a better spec but hey for £149.99 it's a good start if you are strapped for cash

I have the panny S7 which I believe is the same internals as this camera but different case (not waterproof and smaller).

Performance in decent light is really good though it does struggle in poor light.

Good buy ;o) Thanks!

I might be wrong, but I think I've seen a special type of polythene bag cover that allows 'normal' camcorders to be used underwater. A bit deeper than 1.5m too, if I remember correctly?

I bought this camcorder's pre-decessor a couple of years ago for use when hiking in the rain forest. http://www.trustedreviews.com/camcorders/review/2007/06/30/Panasonic-SDR-S10-camcorder/p1. I assume this one is the same but more waterproof. Works fine in good light but struggles a bit in dim conditions.

Can take 8MP photos and the quality of video appeared slightly better, also a lot easier to hold
150 for this cam is still an excellent price.

Good deal, shame it is only up to 1.5 metres.
