Even though the item is still the same the price has changed, therefore the old thread will be expired as it is no longer at that price, this thread is fine to stay as it is, as it is a completely different price:)

Lack of mains charger is annoying. But overall good for the price

You could get a charger off ebay for £5-6.

i got one of these when they were at £69.99, it was well worth it then and even better value now. It's a good little hd camcorder, takes decent stills too. no charger isn't an issue as it charges by usb, like most gadgety things these days.

I tried with two chargers and it didn't charge. worked fine off usb on a computer.

USB chargers or battery chargers? Apparently Panasonic battery chargers model DE-A39 and DE-A40 work.

Not a grear review from Amazon even @ £45!
This review is from: Panasonic TA1 Full HD Pocket Camcorder - Grey (8MP Still Images, Skype Compatible Webcam, Built In USB) (Electronics)
What on earth were Panasonic thinking of when their created this dreadful camera? Others have noted the poor build-quality and how difficult it is to get at the connections. Frankly I wouldn't bother about that - I wouldn't buy it in the first place.

One of the many reasons this camera is comparatively cheap is that it doesn't come with the essential card to slot inside. That could set you back over £100! Panasonic claim a that a 2GB SD card is "compatible" with this camera. Oh really?

There's no proper software with the camera (the built-in software is somehow expected to magic itself into your computer - but doesn't). Try playing video from the recorded on the SD card with Windows Media player, or Real Player. It probably won't work.

The only thing you can use this camera for is as a webcam - but there are far better and cheaper webcams around that this.

There are about 2 or 3 bad reviews for this camcorder, and 30 plus good reviews.

So out of 28 reviews you've posted the lowest rated review on there, nice balance.
Heres a 5 star review.
Bought this for up coming step daughters wedding, wanting a pocket camcorder with instant start, hd, and SD slot.
Given the price, I was very impressed with the picture quality, on full HD but also lesser resolutions. What I did not expect was the still camera quality, for 5 mp it was excellent as a quick snap camera. Add to this iFrame format and I am very impressed.

That poor review is ridiculous! They're right that the built quality isn't great, but you can get an 8GB class 10 SD card for under a tenner. How many cameras DO come with a bundled SD card anyway?!

The software stored on the camera automatically installs onto your PC when you first attach it. I haven't used it yet though, but anything that edits MP4 files will work. If you have the correct codecs installed then yes, WMP will play the files. Would that guy complain if he bought a DSLR and found he couldn't edit RAW images in MS Paint?!

No HDMI is the only negative I can think of. However I plug it into the USB socket of my PS3 / Sony BD player / LG Plasma and watch the recorded footage that way.

For £50 this camera is excellent IMO!

If you're in the market for one of these pocket camcorders then do yourself a big favour and research the market thoroughly.

I'm not going to start a 'mines better than yours' argument but spending a little bit more will get you a much better model.

You seem to have misunderstood my post? I thought I'd made it clear I didn't want to start an argument and OP's post should be judged on what it is - this camcorder at this price.

You can hardly say it's not worth getting a £50 camcorder, and there are better models out there for a bit more and then clam up. We've got one of these on the way and already have a Flip ultra, a Flip ultra HD and a flip mino HD, so it will be interesting to see where this one fits. On RRP its on par with the Flip Ultra which is SD, has built in storage (no expansion) and is quite chunky.

Does anyone know if this is able to auto-focus during recording, or is the focus hard set on pressing the record button like most digital cameras?

Then why even pipe in with the tiresome "you can get a better one for more money" comment in the first place?

This!

Thorough waste of time having multiple threads discussing the exact same item but with a slightly different price, anyone who uses online forums knows you should keep same subject discussion in the same thread oO

Sorry you're having trouble understanding and are feeling tired.

I'll try and put it as simple as possible,.

I assumed most folk knew how to use google and to brows the many reviews and were then able to do a feature/price comparison. Clearly not.

This is not a tech forum for discussing user findings and product analysis.

As I said earlier, this thread is about this specific Panasonic at a given price. Simply vote hot or cold or go and buy it if you wish and ignore my suggestion.

Phew, after reading that lot I reckon you better go lay down for a while. :)

How would this compare to the video recording quaity of a Panasonic TZ7??

I've been thinking about a HD camcorder (admittedly done v little reseach yet) and quite fancy a small portable one. Mostly use a TZ7 at the moment but don't think the quality is too good for video. Have had a quick look at the Flip HD ones but would be interested to know what people think the recording quality is like on these small HD recorders.
Or might I be better looking at the bigger camcorder type ones - is the quality significantly better?

You clearly don't understand what this site is about. The whole point of the discussion is for "discussing user findings and product analysis".

The most valuable part of this site is why people voted hot or cold, why it's a good or bad deal. Evidently you don't quite grasp that. And I did ignore your suggestion since it's useless. Anybody can pipe in with the obvious "pay more money and get a better product" in every deal that's posted. If you're not going to say why, what or where then it's best not to make such pointless suggestions.

Bought mine for £44 2 weeks ago - still a good deal with the price increase. I went for the white model which looks really cool.

Better than a Flip and much cheaper too!

Please stop with the totally pointless comments.

Ive ordered one of these after checking out some test footage on youtube, it looks much better than the flip imo and there doesnt seem to be much out there that will record a good video for this price.

Unless of course I take howardino's advice and spend a little more to get something a little bit better, but without telling you guys what I would get!!
#34
Cold. It's not the best price it's been and wouldn't surprise me if its cheaper again next week.

It's heavily discounted for a reason, its not most folks first choice.....or second........or third.........
#35
Bought one of these the other week, took a couple of vids and plugged it into my Panasonic TX-42G20B TV and it didn't recognise the file type of the vids thus couldn't play them. Any way around this or am I doing something wrong. (technophobe).
#36
Bought one of these last week at the slightly cheaper price. Great for the money. It's very light, and thus portable. 16Gb class 10 SD card cost around £16.

If you've got an apple computer it can record in imovie format which makes it easier to edit your movies.

IMHO you would struggle to find anything noticeably better for anywhere near the same price.
