Just seen these for sale at Selfridges Trafford Centre on special offer at £799, which seems to be £150 less than most other places.

They said it was nationwide.

Better still they are included in the stores offering the free 5 year Panasonic warranty.

I was looking for the 42 inch model but it's about the same price.

The 5 year deal finishes tomorrow so if you are interested I would move fast

Apparantly they will deliver, the box is huge and I am paying to have it delivered as my missus refused to catch the bus home so it might have fit in my car !

judging by your avatar you may be better with the pz85 with the built in free satelite reception- closer to where you are.:-D

hopefully they will have stock tomorrow morning at the trafford centre....

I'd ring them as they said they could get some from the central warehouse to be delivered the first wek of January, good luck.

did they have any 37 or 42s on offer too?

Be careful, Panasonic have just pulled the plug on free 5 year warranties on their Plasma range. Its only for LCDs I believe. Just make sure Panasonic will honour the warranty before buying.

For good Panasonic deals I would speak to a company called Sound and Vision in Farnworth, Bolton huge retailer of LCD & PLASMA and they are on Good Terms with Panasonic and Bose for discounts, explain the offer to them and they will beat it and deliver it for when you want it...

I bought my Pioneer from them for a lot cheaper and they are one of only a handful of Audio retailers in the UK who can heavily discount on Bose Products.

Maybe worth a look at.

Thanks for that, I was told as long as it was bought before the new year it would be fine.

I will check with Panasonic for sure.

I would have bought from S&V but they were shut and I didn't want to miss a bargain!

I agree they are great to deal with particularly if you live close. They do better deals instore than on the net for some reason - I guess to stop people just getting a quote and taking it to JL for a pricematch.

You're partly correct, but no, they don't differentiate bewtween LCD and Plasma [never have done AFAIK]

It's on particular models http://www.replyonline.co.uk/Panasonic/everymomentmatters/microsite.html but if you check the T&C's it only covers purchases between 1st November and TODAY!They did the same thing last year if memory serves me.

It's until the end of the year only [2008] so, you would need to make your purchase instore TODAY!

This is a super super hot deal!

I had this on order from Dixons, due to be delivered this Friday for £982 without the 5 year warantee!

I've just phoned up and cancelled it with them and ordered it from Selfridges in Manchester City Centre. Gotta wait another week or so for delivery, but it's worth it for the saving and the guarantee!

Great find, thanks for saving me over £140! (delivery from Selfridges was £40)

I'm still hunting a deal on the 26" panasonic.... a friend got it for 298 from BT a couple of months ago, and closest i've got is 360 (S&V is 370 incidentally, so not a huge deal)... on with the hunt...
#16
I am torn between this set and holding out for an (eventual??) price drop on the Pioneer PDP-LX5090......arghhh
#17
Trouble with waiting is something else will always come along and you will wait for it to drop in price.

Ask yourself the following question.

1. Do I need a new tv? Replacing tvs for just the sake of it is a costly business.
2. Whats my budget? If you have not got one set one.
3 Then decide whats best for your budget.

I would do all of the above in 1 month.

End of day if something is holding you back from buying the TV its perhaps not the right one for you or you are happy with your current model.

Do read lots of reviews online and test the model instore.

They have most models in store set to HD tv for a reason. :whistling:

That 'something' holding me back is the missus!! Damn her and her logic......yes, i'm fully aware that we dont NEED it....but but.....i want it!

Thanks for the sage advice gummby!
#19
Aye i can vouch for the 42" version of the PZ80. I wanted the 46" back in the summer but it was around £1300 I believe. Tempting upgrade at £800!!!
#20
Now I've gone and spent £799 on the missus' credit card, I should get some other bits to go with it.

I have a Humax 9200 for freview recording.

Is there an equivilent for freesat yet?

If not how do I get freesat and can I record it onto my humax or just onto my dvd recorder?

Any advice on a sound system for the tv welcome too.

Thanks

Registered just to add some rep for this. I've been following online prices for this set for a week or two, looking for one retailer to blink harder than the others and as the OP says, this is about 100quid cheaper than the cheapest online alternative.

I read the post at about 9am, had phoned up and bought one by 9:30am over the phone and with luck, it'll be delivered this afternoon!

Hi, i've been a watcher of this forum for a while but this is my first post, this offer seemed to good to miss. Been after a new screen for a while.

Just got off the phone with Rob at Sainsburys Trafford. Very helpful chap. I'm now £800 worse off. You still qualify for the 5 year warranty if you order over the phone!!

They had 45 in stock in there central warehouse but the trafford store had sold 16 this morning when I phoned. :?

They will hopefully get the screens to the store in the next week or so.

Happy shopping.

Has anyone asked JL to price match, as they are asking £1270 for this TV?

Humax Foxsat PVR Mate just bought one, seems to be the Ds Bs :) I gather it even does a good series link. Dunno if Laskys are the cheapest.

It is instore, ring them if you are interested as the 5 year thingie ends today.

I thnik they are on back order, so you may have to wait a week or so to get the tv.

INSTORE or OVER THE PHONE , I've just ordered one over the phone , spoke to a very helpful 'Rob' at the Trafford centre branch (direct line - 0161 629 1216)
He confirmed 5 year warranty will be valid if the item is bought and paid for today (31/12/08).

The delivery date is expected to be 1-2 weeks as there are non left in the warehouse now so more stock will be supplied by Panasonic.

local delivery is around £40 ... this item is big and I was told that they had just tried to load one into a crysler voyager and struggled !!

Heat added , another £840 spent but hey ho I've got a true bargain !!!
#29
I just phoned now, they're open until 6pm tonight but the 5yr warranty will run out today. Standard 1yr from the 1st!

Looking at possible 4 week delivery now!

They quote upto 4 weeks to cover themselves but I was told that in reality it is likely to be closer to 2 weeks delivery.

If its the Trafford store you are refering to then they've sold all of the warehouse stock now and are now minus 5 on their warehouse stock as of around 30 minutes ago !!

You still need to be quick to qualify for the 5 year warranty though as it expires at 6pm tonight when the store closes , they are still happy to take orders for these but delivery as I have said is likely to be around 2 weeks !!!

Looks like they have all gone at this price now but according to Rob at the Trafford Centre he will try to honour the deal.

Not sure about the 5 year warranty though.

Same here , I was waiting for this particular model as well , it looks the business and can just about get away with a 46" after previously having a 42" Panasonic pv500 (sold on here about 6 months ago for £390 when it was around 3 years old).
A 50" would have been a little too big and overpowering but the 46" is definately a perfect compromise without being OTT.

This deal is unlikely to be matched until at least the middle of next year and I'd be suprised if it went much cheaper than this by next Christmas. I would expect £750-£800 would be the normal price for this set next Christmas (ie 12 months from now)

Getting giddy , cant wait for delivery !!
#37
Ordered one around 3pm at the Selfridges Birmingham.

At that point they were -7 (oversold by 7), I was also told delivery would be delayed and that last year the same thing happened and the last delivery was early Feb, but I'm in no rush. The mgr said they had 10 delivered this morning, but stock had been depleted as soon as it appeared on HUKD

Still unsure whether I've done the right thing for a couple of reasons,
1. 46" may be too big for my room, seating position is about 6/7 feet at the closest and 10ft away at the end of the sofa. I don't want the focus of the room to be the telly!
2. about four years ago, I bought a Sharp LCD 37P50E, which is 540x480 (I think - 540 lines anyway), so it remains to be seen whether the advance in technology is better than 1:1 input for standard def - which is 80% of my viewing - I checked the standard feed and the picture looked about the same as my Sharp

Any thoughts?....Thanks
I have the option to refund before it arrives, as I need to check its not going to look ridiculous in the living room.

If you paid over the phone then the order will have been placed and accepted , there would be no trying to honour the deal involved , it would have already been accepted if payment was taken.

Why are you unsure about the 5 year warranty , wasnt this explained to you .. or did you forget to ask ???

I asked the questions for everything i was unsure about and was able to get all my questions answered ... stating that you are unsure about the warranty is a little misleading for anyone reading your post i would have thought. ;)
