Superb price for this tv. Best 42 inch bargain to be had out there right now without a doubt. You can use NHS5 for a 5% discount if I remember correctly. Plus quidco.

And you get the stand and a wall mount.

Why aren't people voting this hot? Ridiculous.

Good old Dixons. Rather than tell you the TH42PX70's resolution, they tell you '737280 pixels' and that 'the higher the number of pixels the better the picture resolution will be'.

It's 1024x768, by the way, meaning that lovely 1080 vertical picture will end up being downscaled.

EDIT: £200 more buys you LCD alternatives such as the 1920x1080 Sharp LC42XD1E, which offers more than double the pixel resolution. That's where my HD money would go.

Crumbs :w00t: (now i'm bitter about my PX60, lol)

The picture on these sets is exceptional

sigh...

Can I ask you what sources you would be linking up to your LC42XD1E?

so is this tv a good one then with the 1024x768? for 'normal' folk with sky plus and xbox 360?
#7
i would rather get the new samsung, such as LE40M87BD or LE40M86BD (only difference between these is a silver stripe at the bottom of the set). They are both 1080p Full HD, and have 3 hdmi and component, and many more (inc vga i think as well!)
you could get those for under a grand, perhaps near 900 if you look on google

HTPC. There's an integrated DVB-T receiver so it's also fine 'standalone'.

What exactly are you sighing about?

hocka, it's a decent plasma at a great price. Stop your fretting. Most folk can't tell whether a screen is 780 or 1080 pixels high anyway. I needed a 1920x1080 screen chiefly because of my work. The Sharp is the cheapest way into that.

Just looking at the Currys website & this is £999 with pedestal stand whereas the Samsung PS42Q96 with stand is £729 , the Panasonic is £847 at Dixons .

Is the Panasonic worth £270 more at Curry's or £118 more at Dixons ?

I've tried both of them using the same settings & the Samsung had the better picture in my opinion , so if you are after a superb plasma go for the Samsung & save some serious money .

Oh , don't forget Quidco either , you'll get the Samsung for £663 all in after using a 5% off code .

Review of this Panasonic HERE

Review of the latest equivalent Samsung HERE

Samsung comes out better if most of your watching is going to be SD - Sky, Freeview or Terrestrial. On HD they are matched. The Sammy is approx £100 cheaper at £700 and comes with a pedestal stand. Know where my money would go.

They are 40 inch not 42" and currently the cheapest price is about £300 more than the 42" Sammy Plasma. Not really a fair comparison.
#35
The Panny is also good for SD viewing rea AV forums to see loads of feedback , TBH there is probably not alot in the 2 sets, however the 5 year warranty they are giving until the end of May is worth about £260 and you will have peace of mind for the next 5 years.

You are gonna get from Dixons when you can get from elsewhere and get free 5 year warranty

I'd be a bit wary of 247Electrical after reading a few articles about them on the AV Forums . It seems they have been known to take the money when you order only for the goods to NOT be in stock even though the site says it is . A few people have had severe delays waiting for stock to come in , be careful & try to verify that they DO actually have stock when you order .

i've just looked on a price comparison site and it's £987 inc vat and delivery at beyond television: http://www.beyondtelevision.co.uk/thisProduct.asp?ID=861

that's just over a hundred quid more than the panny for an extra hdmi port, and a vastly bigger resolution (1024x768 compared to 1920 x 1080), not to mention having a correct pixel aspect ratio for widescreen.

The "free" wall bracket is a big drawback i think. I mean, making you pay for having a table stand is poor, and the full cabinet stand is even more. Many people rent properties, and so can't go round drilling into walls. A table/floor stand is much more flexable for moving around the room.

And the difference between 42 and 40 inches? not massive is it really, come on.

Samsung PS42Q97HDX - i really like the look of this one cheers kevinyork
