anyone know if this is wall mountable?
#2
Hi there

Iknow this may sound stupid but does this come with a stand as it doesn't with other suppliers that are a little bit cheaper. We really would like one of these but I'm not very techologically minded - not a good thing when parting with lots of money!

Yes

Check ebay or the AV Forums for a wall bracket. You're looking between £20-£30

Panasonic TVs tend to come in 3 flavours.
TV (no stands)
TV with Pedestal
TV with Cabinet

The model number of this has PED which stands for Pedestal surprisingly. This is a stand so the TV stands by itself.

CAB is for cabinet I beleive, and no end usually means it's the TV standalone.

To go back to the first person, you could probably sell the Pedestal with this, to cover the price of a wall bracket. When I got my TH42PX60, the stands were selling on ebay for around £50 and the Cabinets for around £100. Wether this has changed since as it was two years ago is another matter!

Hope this helps :)

Cabinet flavour is a good price here-

John Lewis pricematch Empire Direct and also give a free 5 year warranty.

I have been looking at 46" + TV's for the last few days and found this Panasonic TH-50PX70B at Dixon's for £760.09 (after voucher) and was wondering what the difference was...Any ideas?

Ok, this is just Hot. I have the younger geeza(42") version which I bought for 1k back in May 07. Amazing how the prices have gone down.

Its a shame that its not FULL HD (1080p). As if i am buying a 50" telly i would want FULL HD.

What do you think?
#12
I want a TV this big...

At 50" and this price point you're usually better off going for picture quality than resolution, although if you're willing to sit close enough (say 7.5 feet) then 1080p is worth having.
#14
northy666;1777818
I don't think you've read the description properly. It says 1080p at least twice!

It's 1366*768, not 1080p. They just mention "1080p processing" etc as often as possible to confuse people - all this means is that it can accept a 1080p input and downscale it, which literally every HDTV can do.
#15
A lot of plasmas cant accept 1080P. My samsung 50" cant.
However, this plasma looks truly excellent, even great on SKY SD.
I got it for a friend for £820 from currys / dixons a month ago.
You cant go wrong with this

If I hear 1 more person say..."shame its no 1080P" I will scream. Why do you want twice as many pixels? When most TV viewing has only 10% of the pixels coming through from sky that you have on your screen? It just makes the image quality worse..
#16
this is a fab tv, wish i had the money to get the bigger screen as we have this in the 42"
brill buy!
#17
hot! love plasma!
#19
Shame its not full HD.

In all seriousness, its a bargain, i bought the PZ70 (the full HD one) a couple of weeks ago, but i wish id waited and saved £300 and got this, looks a fantastic bargain.
#20
What a good price i love my samsung plasma but would swap it for this anyday.

What size rooms do you people have that you think you need 50" TVs?!
#22
Does it come with the table top stand?
what does the stand looks like?

50" at this resolution is pretty much perfect for a 10 foot sitting distance with 20/20 vision. In other words, a pretty average TV room.

Incidetnally, once you get used to it, this won't seem big at all. A friend had a 67" DLP that at first looked ludicrous, but after a fair few movie nights you really appreciate the extra atmosphere and immersion it brings to the film. Great for sports too.
#24
Glad this is not the full HD version at this price. We've just purchased the same TV but full HD version from Richer Sounds for £1299! Good deal, amazing quality.

for 50" TV you really need a 3m viewing clearance
#25
Stone me, that's one big telly.

Stone me, that's one big telly.

Yeah it is big but we were all saying that a few years back about 42" tellys. I've got a 42 and an averaged sized house and I think a 50 is probably just about the perfect size. Why do I only have a 42 then??? Well funnily enough she doesn't see it like I do!!!
#27
Is it worth waiting for the 80 to come down in price.
Higher contrast, I read somewhere. Does that mean that this one is lacking?

Come on someone. Give me reason NOT to buy this or I'm going to have to shell out £800.00+ before the lounge is plastered & decorated (3-4 weeks) for fear of losing out.

HEY

No-one mentioned the 2.5% reduction using Quidco.

That Equals £791.17p

Thought I'd quickly post as I've already got this telly. Paid about £1100 when it was released in April last year, got it from John Lewis.

Absolutely cracking set. I've got it wall mounted in a room roughly 18x9, sit about 15 feet away and the picture is superb. I've got it hooked up to a HDMI DVD player and a Virgin Media V+ box (1080i). Also use it in 480p for the Nitendo Wii (which is great on a 50" by the way, can't beat Wii Sports :))

Not had a single problem with mine either and its been heavily used! I know some people are saying its to big and its not 1080p, but if you have a big enough room and sit far enough away a) its the perfect size and b) you wouldn't notice the difference between 1080i and 1080p.

Go on, grab one! :D

You wasted your money then! To see the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 50" screen you need to be closer than 6-7 feet from the screen...

you'll be surprise, when i changed my 32" 'size of a small car' tv to my current 40" sony, i thought it's really massive and perhaps a little bit OTT.......but gradually my eyes adjusted to the 40" viewing dimention, and now i am waiting for the next excuse to arise to upgrade to 50"-55":whistling:

Dont be silly, you have no idea how close that he sits, i have the full HD one, and sit 8 feet from it.

There is always a smartarse with a quick comment on hotdealsuk.

Does anyone know what this is like for gaming for xbox 360 via HDMI? I will be picking up a PS3 in the next price drop for Blu-Ray as well, and would appreciate an honest input about the image quality, reaction time and and possible motion blur or visible artifacts shown as gaming would be my main use for the TV.

Thanks in advance!

To my mind this gave a pretty good hint:
" for 50" TV you really need a 3m viewing clearance"

;-):whistling:

8 feet is about right for 20/20 with a 1080p 50" set. 3 metres (aka 10 feet) is too far away unless you have really sharp eyes.
#35
See the viewing distances chart.
http://s3.carltonbale.com/resolution_chart.html

About 8 feet or under for a 50" before you can see the benefit of 1080p.
