Still, if you want a large, quality, plasma tele which will look good enough for most people, this seems a pretty keen price.

They had the 42" version reduced in Tesco Swindon also - £599

I have this, bought it for £750 6 months ago with a free 5 year panny warranty. Perfect for sky hd which broadcasts in 720p. Haven't got a bluray player so can't comment on that.

Where in Eccles is this Tesco?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!!?

They broadcast in 1080i, although still a great TV.

Only caveat would be that I heard Panny will be re-introducing the 5 yr warranty next month. Although these TV's are superceded now hence the great prices on this series, therefore you might not find many in stock next month.

They were doing 5 year warrant from auth resellers last year. I believe it will be coming back next month.

Other alternative is to get JL to price match, assuming they have these in stock.

Further to what united4eva said, where is tesco in eccles? The petrol station?
#11
I live in eccles and there's no Tesco to my knowledge , only a Tesco petrol station. I'm assuming the thread starter means Irlam which is only a few miles down the road!

Awesome bargain though, Since I got a Pj I'm going to wait for the full HD versions to come down.

I bought one of these today in my local John Lewis store
http://www.johnlewis.com/230489209/Product.aspx
in store price was £897
All reviews on the internet are first class and one look at the picture quality in the shop and in my opinion was far better than the LCD's
The models are last years and are now being replaced with a new style so some great bargains to be had.
Also John Lewis deliver free and give a free 5yr warranty (might even get £50 for my CRT!)

Sorry! I meant Irlam. I live the other side of the canal so always get the two confused. They had them both upstairs and downstairs. I'll try to change the title to cover my ignorance!

They had one in Shrewsbury last time I checked.

Thanks for the tip - I have been looking at a new Panasonic Plasma - will hold out for another month, when the 5 yr warranty is up and running again!

NP, I've been sitting on the fence because of this aswell. Did try and get JL to match the 50pz80 deal that was on here as would have got the warranty from them. But they didn't bite :(

Have you looked at Tec7? They have the 50PZ80 in stock at Reading, Guilford, Maidstone, Lakeside and Hull - priced @ £899 with a 5 year warranty. I was looking at the 42" version of that one, but the power usage is just too high for me.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that before. If nothing comes up before I get back next week I think I may just get that.

I've never heard of them before, from the blurb it suggests they operate part of the retail floor in House of Frasier stores. But I'm guessing they're still a seperate entity. Just worried about who the warranty is with incase they go under. Although I will be using a CC so would hopefully have some recourse through the card company.

BTW I was a little put of by the power consumption, but considering the G10 is £400 more it would take some time to recoup the difference (admittadly it is a step above in terms of pic quality aswell, but I have a couple of TV's so it would hurt the wallet quite a bit if I stayed at the top of the curve always). Remember the 480w rating is peak consumption, my 61" which is rated even higher peaks at a couple of pence an hour max.

yes, and where do you base that particular gem of wisdom? Plasma's, in particular panny's have been knocking lcd's and their crappy grey blacks, and rubbish standard definition playback into touch for the last 3 years.. If you don't have a clue, best not to comment, otherwise people like me come along and laugh and generally make you look foolish.

This is a fantastic deal. I bought the TH50PX70 a year ago from John Lewis for £999. Panny plasmas are second only to Pioneer Plasma TV's. Rest assured, you're buying a quality product. I can't believe the PX80 is only £699 and it's the model after mine!

Heat and rep added!!!

Thanks "Madwelsh", good insight on the comment, although the rest of it... are you 8 years old?

Witty response expected!

Bit of a sweeping statement. Their are circumstances in which this is true, which is why I have both.

But for a large screen of this quality at this price I think you'll be hard pushed to find a better plasma. The only caveats would be if:

- Reflections were an issue
- Power/Heat were an issue (i.e. small room where you didn't need a device churning out hot air).
- Image retention was an issue. Modern Plasma's are much better, but I still wouldn't use them if your going to have static images on for a long time (i.e dual use for TV & CCTV/PC Monitor/Family members prone to leaving Sky on pause for hours).

I have a feeling you may have been 'trolling' here....

Your comments are clearly ill-informed and lacking any basis in reality I am sorry to say. Both types of screens have their pros and cons, and fanbase - LCDs are generally more widely available and cheaper in relative terms, not to mention marginal (and they really are very marginal on current sets) running cost benefits for LCD. However, it is generally recognised that Plasma sets have a more 'natural' looking picture, and deeper blacks, making the viewing experience overall slightly more akin to real-life - The particular set you have seen fit to criticise here is part of a highly respected and very well-reviewed range of Panasonic TVs, which any knowledeable and impartial viewer would have to admit, regardless of their own preference for set type, gives fantastic viewing results.

So quite how you are able to make the general comment you have done when it is certainly the case that the 'average' quality of Plasma set, will give a superior picture to the 'average' LCD, and my opinion here is based on experience, accepted research, and technical differences between the two technologies. And for the avoidance of all doubt, I am neither slagging off LCD TVs here (which can be very good), nor blindly defending Plasma sets not dissimilar to the one I own - I merely wanted to respond to your rather stupid comment and hopefully, illustrate to you that you may in fact have been incorrect to post a personal opinion disguised as fact.

Have a nice day Mr Troll! :whistling:

You should remeber Alex, that it was just such an 'unbelievable comment' from you which prompted the responses to which you refer!

Some youthful antagonism going on here methinks - Alex at your tender age, you clearly dont understand the manners and etiquette of forums like this, so perhaps you should skulk away quietly on this occasion, without any further responses, should you be able to control the urge that is. You clearly delight in aggravating people with your attitude (fortunately I see you for what you are).

Grab your coat, and leave quietly...preferably closing the door behind you....

"Youthful antagonism"? That must make you an 'old man' then.

Looks like I couldn't control the urge, much like yourself!

I know a lot of forums can be immature and you get shot down for having an opinion; I was under the impression HUKD's wasn't like that, but you have proved me wrong! Give yourself a pat on the back, but make sure you don't put it out!

Oh and by the way.. "Remeber"? Don't know that word mate. Corrr, picky eh! ta ta
