Anyone care to comment how this compares to the 42" G20?

If you have to ask then you can't afford the G series :p. The G series is superior to this model, it's not too far off the legendary unbeaten Pioneer Kuro 9th gen which speaks volumes for it.

This uses last years neopdp screen, the G series uses the new screens, which are superior in picture and quality. Nevertheless, the picture quality on this will be vastly superior to any lcd or LG/samdung plasma.

Bought this a month ago and found the SD pictures to be too soft. Waiting for freeview HD to air in my area come sept 2011 to get real benefits from this set.

HD pictures excellent though.

Ive just noticed that this doesnt include freesat HD, where as the G20 does.

Freesat HD is rubbish. I have it and it doesn't have some of the channels freeview has.

Panasonic marketing will have you believe and they may even pay off some friendly magazine to give a good write up, but park a panny g series next to a kuro final generation and the pioneer will demonstrate a Concorde moment in plasma technology.

The S20 series are fantastic compared to pretty much anything in the price range and the anti-reflective coating makes a massive difference if practicality dictates your viewing setup is less than ideal. The JL deal is cracking for the 5yr warranty as even direct with Panasonic it's more expensive.
