A great Plasma TV and an almost unbeatable price (including the warranty).

With built in Freesat too (although you do need a dish!) it's a great offer to take advantage of before Xmas.

Big quick because there's less than 50 in stock for the whole country (until more come in - but no firm dates).

I've ordered mine today and the customer service at JL was great! Can't wait to see at those BBC programmes in HD.

From the John Lewis Website -
"Sit back and enjoy stunning HD images with this Panasonic Viera TH42PZ81B 42 plasma television. It features a built-in freesat tuner so you can enjoy HD channels from the BBC and ITV without the need for an external box.

Its state-of-the-art technology gives amazing picture quality, with the Intelligent Frame Creation giving fantastic resolution even during fast moving scenes something football fans and film buffs will both appreciate.

Every image is richly detailed - from the brightest sunshine to the darkest night sky - and contrast is enhanced by the new Real Black Drive system that creates deep, robust blacks and reproduces scenes with a fine balance of light and shadow.

Sound is enhanced with its in-built V-Real Pro 3 surround sound technology (with bass extension), while the 24p Real Cinema settings offers enhanced judder-free playback, giving a smooth film look. The 3 HDMI sockets allow you to hook-up your Blu-ray player, PVRs and games consoles with ease.

The TH42PZ81B is also capable of playing footage straight from your camcorder in high-definition mode and you can view a slideshow of your photos - just remove the SD memory card from your digital still camera, and slip it in the slot."

That's a belter of a deal! Shame it's not time to upgrade...

Its a very good TV mainly for Standard Definition as most of the times thats what we watch. HD is very good anyway. Another good thing is Freesat if you don't need Sky. This is £999 in most shops with 1 year warranty + delivery charges so this deal is much better.

Ordered one. Thanks! :whistling:

Does it have a 'Freeview' tuner too?

Yes. I saw this in Currys last week. It has analogue tuner too.. Freesat works with existing Sky dish...

Last night I got this TV at Comet for £890 price matched with Richersounds. Only with manufacturer's 12 month warranty though.

To reduce the outlay I used a Virgin Credit Card (6 months 0% credit) to purchase Comet gift vouchers at MBNA Lifestyle (for 12% discount) and use TopCashBack to get further 4%.

Therefore total cost
£890.00
-106.80 (£890 x 12%)
- 35.60 (£890 x 4%) (But possibly £40 as it was advertised as £1000 before pricematch)
- 15.66 (£783.20 x 2% interest roughly received by not having to repay Virgin immediately)
=£731.94

:-D

JL will refund any difference if they lower the price within 28 days of purchase.

The price was £999, down to £899, back up to £999 and now reduced again for good.

If you take out a JL Credit Card it's currently 6 months interest free credit too.

Steal at that price

I got the older model so cant upgrade (just yet)

As above this is 100Hz, from spec:

All signals also benefit from 100Hz technology. 100Hz technology gives a more stable picture with less flicker and reduced motion blur.

What a shame it's not 100hz.
I'd be well in for it if it was, no danger.
#21

Additional features include: "24p Real Cinema" motion compensated frame interpolation (MCFI) technology and "Intelligent Frame Creation", 100Hz Double scan, 30000:1 dynamic contrast ratio

eurobird1 and astra2 free to air channels can all be tuned in from the inbuilt freesat

Thanks. Bit like your standard Sky Digibox. I'd like to know if you can receive signals from say 19 or 13 east using the appropriate dish and lnb config. I can't see any mention of DISEQ 1.0 etc so maybe not.

Good deal if you want a built in freesat...panasonic's are amongst the best TV's around.

Looked at this TV in JL (Southampton) about a fortnight ago..it was £849 I think on a price match at the time. The salesman (believe it or not) talked me out of buying it on the basis that virtually the same TV, less the freesat, was available for £150 less and the non freesat TV was better value. He suggested the number of free HD channels on freesat was at present minimal and advised me to sign up to sky HD+ and get more channels and benefit from the internal hard drive for less outlay...or alternatively wait for the Humax HD pvr !!!!

Either he was being very honest or his commission was greater on selling a sky package. Anyway it made me think. I am now researching options to replace existing normal sky dish and box with a twin LNB dish so that I can get free footy from europe as well as HD channels on Astra and a HD receiver with twin tuner that I can plug in a 2.5" 500gb HDD and record onto....but don't tell her indoors, she'll go mad !!

It is, check the panasonic website "100 Hz Double Scan yes"

brilliant price for a full HD plasma, freesat and the warranty. an average 42" full HD plasma price is around £700, freesat HD is around £150 and most 5 year warranties are around £200 so you'd usually pay around £1050 for all that.

great price and fantastic TV, couldnt recommend enough if its in your price range
#34
After the price rises on the PZ80 this is one of the better deals if you might ever make use of the extra features.
#35
thanks for posting but this is no special offer richer sounds have been doing it for £889.95 for a while now. dsg group dixons, curry's, and pc world prices have also been fluctuating from £880 to £999 from week to week.
and i walked into the panasonic shop the other day and it was for £999 with 5 years guarantee and a free install of a sky dish and cabling so youre all ready to enjoy freesat.
but like a few others on here, im just waiting for the sales before i snatch one up:thumbsup:

but richer dont give a 5year warranty, and the way plasma's break, its usually a replacement before a fix!

Theres no Disecq, but you could use a monoblock to pick up 19 & 13 - but these channels will be foreign - theres a CAM on the back, but that only supports some other feature & not your normal satellite CAM's.

This is one of the best TV''s currently on the market. It comes in 42", 46" & 50"
The 50" can be found for less than £1400 with a 5yr warranty if you shop around.

John Lewis Cambridge had this on display next to 42" Pioneer for £1499, I could not see any difference but my son prefered the Pioneer (22 year old eyes) but I would be more than happy to own this for the money.

hmm, tempted as my old CRT Sony is dying. Went to deal and it shows as £999, have they bumped the price up or is a code required at checkout?

The Bugg*rs have put the price up again!!

Thieves!!

I would enquire in store about this and ask to only pay £899. Say you'd been told you could have it based on Thursday's price. ;-)

As I said earlier. If it just had 100Hz scanning it would be so much better.:w00t:
