just so you all know, this is only 720p and not full 1080. but it's a big tv at a fair price.

#7
Only 720p if you check some review sites.

Valid point - it does say 'Full HD' on the Curry's website - according to Richer Sounds http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/panasonic/viera-tx50as500b/pana-tx50as500b it is HD ready

Having just ordered one for reserve and collect I will be checking that with the store on Boxing Day.

THANKS for highlighting this.

According to What Hi-Fi review:-

There’s also a good deal more depth to the picture than we found with the LG 50PA6500T or Samsung PS51E490.

Verdict: We really like the Panasonic. It can be found for a hundred quid less than the Samsung (great news in itself) but more than that, it’s the picture that wowed us. Now don’t go expecting perfection – this isn’t a Full HD telly, and spending two or three hundred pounds more on the next models up will give better results. But for what you’re paying, this set is a triumph. (sic).

Excuse me but what are you all on about posting up reviews of different models this is the 300b model.

Unless you all know something i don't?

Why's this suspended? it's live, it IS 1080p and people have all been posting details of a completely different model Google returned the same results for me too)

Picked this up today, think a lot of people are overlooking this bargain. It's 100Hz refresh, 1080p with freeview HD tuner, decent selection of connections (some not listed on the Curry's site like VGA and spdif out). Sound quality is crap but that's about the only bad thing I've managed to find. Heat added and images of the manual attached just to squash the "it's not 1080p" comments.

While I'm not saying it's not 1080p, your picture doesn't prove anything as they are supported inputs, not outputs.

Cold it's an Led and not Plasma, great if you like looking at waxwork figures ha ha.

I was considering one of the these but I spoke with a member of staff at Currys who strongly advised me to avoid. He told me it is basically a 'Logic' TV with a Panasonic badge on.
#22
Bargain.... Forget all the 1080p talk...... Plug a sky HD in, you will get a cracking picture....
#23
This is at the same price point as some fairly average to nasty brand slap Vestel and UMC TV's, so deserves some heat as this looks to be a bit of a bargain.

The user guide on page 19 confirms this set has a full HD 1080p panel.

This is incorrect, it's 1080i. Writing "apparently" at the beginning of your statement doesn't excuse you from posting false information.

No it's because ignorance, economy of scale and marketing defeated the better technology. Betamax over VHS yet again.

This is a cracking price so voted hot.

Loved the Sony c7 Betamax.... So much better than vhs...... Just a shame VHS had flooded the marked.

Why don't you do some research instead of just writing apparently. If you had done some research you wouldn't jave posted incorrect information. Broadcast HD in the UK is 1080i.

Tesco Have a similar model TX-50A400B , for £419, but it includes five year warranty.

Looking at it from the front it's a slim profile bezel, if you're talking depth then yes it's thick but not thicker than any others over the last few years and very light for the size. I can't rate this highly enough for the price, just watched monsters inc since it's got an HD tuner, excellent picture (at this size you can see each strand of sully's fur!)
#34
Didn't say it was an (O)LED. LED or LCD makes no difference, end result is the same horrible plastic faces = inferior technology compared to a plasma screen ;)
#35
I should add if you really want this inferior technology then at the very least make sure it is a Panny :)

It does prove that the panel is 1080p though, but if you really require more proof here is a shot of page 19 of the manual :)

Panasonic stop making Plasmas some time ago. Anyway, 50" TV for £349 is a bargain in my book. Hot
#39
Reasonable. Not voting hot or cold though.

Be warned, the chunky chassis & picture of the side inputs on Currys site indicate this might be a Vestel re-badge. If that's the case, save yourself £100 and buy an off brand 50" equivalent from Technika or Blaupunkt - same quality for less money.

£50 more will buy a Toshiba built 50L2436DB from Tesco Direct - possibly less with one of the codes floating around. A far better buy IMHO.
