Hmmmmm, now I am really frustrated. The Panasonic TZ7 has just dropped on Amazon to £219 and its getting harder to decide which of these two cameras to get.

8X or 12X zoom
Mjpeg OR AVCHD Lite for movies
ZX1 is very small and the camera you use is the one you have in your pocket.

I don't suppose anyone knows what the return time for cameras is at Costco?

@tc80tc80 - I am having the same debate and think we could be here all day dithering about which one! Its cash for me that's the deciding factor and I want the maximum optical zoom possibly for my money. I was surprised at the size of the TZ7 - quite bulky to accommodate the lens. Interested to go and hold the ZX1 to see how compact it is. Might wait for prices to drop next month once new TZ8 and TZ10 models are out.

Decision decisions!!!!!

I've had a Canon S3IS which is only 6MP but 12X zoom for about 4 years. Truthfully I can live with 8X zoom. What I have noticed, time and again is that the S3IS is just too big. When we were on our last cruise, I would constantly leave the Canon in the cabin and borrow my wife's little Lumix because it fit so easily into a pocket / bag. But the Lumix was only 3X zoom.

This time around I want the higher resolution but more importantly, I want the HD movie capability. There has been so many times something dynamic was happening and a single photo simply doesn't catch the context of the situation.

I think Monday I am going to go pick up the ZX1 and leave it sealed until I see what is going to happen with the prices and the TZ8.

Well, I went and picked it up at Costco. Played with it for two days and its going back to Costco. I can't believe just how bad this camera actually is.... now mind you I've read every review and looked at all of the sample pictures and movies from this model and can only surmise that something is wrong with the camera.

On a bright sunny day the movies look like someone sprinkled pixie dust in the air. I had the Kodak Zi8 for two weeks and the 720p30 movies from it were far superior to the same mode on the ZX1. Picture quality on anything but the brightest day is quite grainy regardless of what setting I use.

Lastly my 2006 model Canon S3IS is miles ahead of the ZX1. Why are we going backwards in technology?

Not a good experience, strange Panasonic are usually good. :? Still at least with Costco you won't have a problem getting your money back.
