Can get these (or good as) without the brand printed on for about a quarter of the price.
I have that front light, and wouldn't recommend it. The clip it attaches with isn't great and it's fell off a couple of times and smashed into bits(although I've managed to reattach it back together).

they are a nice bunch to deal with, used to be a great ride out to their place when they were in a farm yard at Lilleshall. not been since they moved into Telford.
they often have lots of older stuff in store which is great to rummage through.
be aware that sometimes their delivery can be a bit slow.

Ta Fozey, did it via Android phone and thought price would migrate into title from its box, duh.

Np, been there a few times lol
Might help if you mention the lumen value

'Four super-bright white Nichia LEDs produce an incredible 40 Lumens in OD mode' taken from their website

good find like the idea of being able to charge while at work then use them to get home

Hi - thanks for the great advice. I have recently started cycling and have been looking for a set of lights which are well made, effective and also affordable. Do you have any recommendation on a front light and are you aware of any good deals available? Many thanks in advance!

I have the Cateye HL-EL450 at present. Its a high quality light but normally on the more expensive price with RRP £34.99 but Wiggle.co.uk currently have it for £17.50. Its a good light but not sure its the best for the money and you should look around on reviews. I got this a few years ago and hasn't failed me yet. Front lights are much more variable with beam brightness and side visibility plus battery life considerations you need to make. It partly depends whether you need the light for cycling on lit roads or out in the country for the front light as in the country you will definitly want a more expensive and brighter beam that isn't going to fail on you. This CatEye is good though but I have never really got on with the switch for some reason but thats jsut me.

Actually £11.90 if you are buying only this when you factor in p+p.

You get free P&P if you spend over £20 but Tredz.co.uk has it for £8.99 which is still a good price.

What do you mean by "float"?

If you look at the 530 pedals, the pedal and outer are all in one piece. On the 424, the pedal sits inside a cage that is sprung and moves independently of the part you click into - hence the float.

Float means that you have some small movement with your foot whilst still remaining clipped in. a poor mans float can be achieved by adjusting the pedal to full minus. Both pedals in my opinion would be great fro a SPD virgin. you are pretty much guaranteed to fall off clipped in at least once when first moving to SPDs, but most likely it will be when you stop and forget to unclip and have a comedy sideways fall.

cartzuk
would these be good for a virgin spd rider???

if so any recommendation for the shoes???

Possibly but they don't 'float' to support your foot if you don't click straight in. Try these: http://www.parker-international.co.uk/3297/Shimano-M424-MTB-SPD-Pedals.html

http://www.parker-international.co.uk/ProductImages/fullsize/M424.jpg

Shoes are a personal choice - depends what you're after. I personally like the MP66

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Images/Models/150/7610.jpg

and the AM45

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Images/Models/150/55370.jpg.

You don't need Shimano shoes as the cleats come with the pedals. If you do go for Shimano, buy at least one size up - you're best to try them on at your local bike shop.

Good find, but not all of them are cheaper.

Definately worth looking at both sites before choosing your lock (wish I had got my fahgetaboudit from there) but the evo mini and kryptoflex were cheaper making overall saving for my purchase slightly better at Parkers.

Other advantage of Parkers is that you can use PayPal

I have these and they're pretty flexible I got them as having never used clipless peddles before I wanted the option to use without having to use my cycling shoes. While they are usable with regular trainers or shoes they aren't the most comfortable as you can feel the cleat socket raised slightly. I suspect now I'd just go the whole hog and get the smaller lighter ones without the bear cage.
Love these pedals, the extra weight is well worth it when you come off on a steep climb. Leave your mates behind while they're still trying to clip-in..

I think its hot, thanks, ordered one!
these have a different style of key to the ones you can open with a pen so not really relevant....
I was looking around for a strong bike lock and was recommended a Sainsbury's d-lock, which is 16mm, for £9.74. 16mm and 18mm is much harder to break than smaller apparently due to tools needed. Looks incredibly similar to other leading locks. Comes with two keys. Bracket is crap as most of them are unfortunately - it broke while being fitted. Normally £12.99 but 25% off bike stuff at the moment. You can buy three of these and leave them where you need them for the same price as one of the Kryptonites. And Kryptonite is no longer a respected brand after it was shown that any unskilled idiot, aka a thief, can open the old Kryptonite locks with a bic pen.

PS I think this lock and the 25% discount is in-store only.
Good lock but the EZ-Mount bracket is rubbish. Had 2 break on my already the flexible plastic strap will snap sooner or later. If only they would just redesign in with like a sold block attached with 2 screws then it would be great, as the lock is very heavy. But as it is the now you are going to have to carry this in a bag all the time.
The lock is worth more than a lot of bikes!
Great security lock for the more expensive bike, just what i am looking for because its a lot easier to carry than my chain, and its almost foolproof as well as talperproof.
Great price, i havent seen it this cheap anywhere. Thanks.

I'd also recommmend the Kryptonite New York 3000 lock + cable through the front wheel (and water bottle cage - had that nicked before!). If you can justify the cost, I'd also recommend the Pinhead locking skewers
It really depends on how much you want to spend and how much your bike cost - no lock can protect a bike for very long against a determinded thief but they will usually go for the easiest one to steal e.g. one with no lock at all or just a cheap one that's easy to break.

I use a kryptonite new york 3000 [16mm steel so you'd need at least a 42" cutter to get through it] and a kryptonite 12mm cable with an Abus class 9 diskus securing it round both wheels and the frame and an imovable object. Total cost of just over £60 which is about 10% of the cost of my bike.

The best deal on an kryptonite new york 3000 just now is at Parker International who are doing it reduced from £79.99 to £49.10 delivered: http://www.parker-international.co.uk/6773/Kryptonite-New-York-3000-Lock-.html?referrer=froogle&utm_source=google&utm_medium=froogle&utm_campaign=pid6773
Sometimes it doesn't matter how good the lock is!
