It's not a good drive so you get what you pay for at this price. You'll probably need to flash the firmware too if you get one.

I've been hunting everywhere for a good deal on the intel x25-m in either 80gb or 160gb best I can come up with is around £175 for the 80 and £325 for the 160gb - Anybody know of a better deal or a good alternative to the intel SSD????

Just get yourself an OCZ Vertex 2 size according to your budget. You won't be sorry. Link here ...Example model number/price: OCZSSD2-2VTXE60G /£130

So are you saying this is better than the intel in terms of performance or value?

I think the vertex 2 is faster & cheeper than the Intel. (I have the intel x25-m , and it's great!)
The vertex 2 uses the new "sandforce" controller , which is amazing.

Both. Well... for desktop use anyway. If you are running a server (in raid) then get the Intels.

OCZ Vertex 2E from Scan often pops up on the Today Only page for 130 or less

OcUK has Vertex 2E 40GB SSD's for £99.99, those are a fast SSD.
#12
Now £70.49 inc. VAT. But check reviews before considering.
#13
Yep agreed these drives are not great, but there again they are mega cheap.

Still I'd save extra and go for the Vertex 2E 60GB they have on offer, I'd post the deal but unsure how too and CBA.

It has dropped in price slightly again, as OcUK try to clear Patriot SSD inventory (cleared 32GB PS-100 and 64GB Torqx). PS-100 64GB now at £69.99 + postage if not on OcUK forum.

After reading OcUK forum and Patriot forum it seems best to avoid update firmware to 3.000 as drives reported failing soon after, or just for the unlucky ones that have posted about it.
