A good phone for the price. Lucky enough to get this from Argos for £29.99 including the free £10 top-up - not sure about availability there now though. This is probably the next best price.

does anybody know if argos make u purchase an extra 10 pound credit with this phone?

Just to clear this up.

It's NOT just £34.99 at Argos. The £34.99 price does get you the phone and a £10 top-up (once phone is activated) but...you still need to buy a mandatory £10 Orange top-up.

Total cost is £44.99. But that does get you £20 worth of calling credit with the "free" £10 being valid for 30 days only.

Some people did manage to get the phone without buying a top-up when recently posted but that was a mistake by the shop. They were just lucky. Argos are now aware of that and I doubt you'll be so lucky now.

This deal is effectively £10 better than Argos once Quidco is taken into account....and still £5 better without Quidco.

Last time I had to purchase extra £10 top up on top of listed price despite website clearly states the price includes £10 topup.

The keyboard is very stiff to type on and letter "m" is in wrong place. I sold it on ebay.

See post #10.

Argos web site does state clearly you need to purchase a mandatory £10 top-up......plus phone comes with "free" 30 day expiry £10 included.

You know I think there is, so you'd be crazy to get this deal as the other one is £50 to £60 more, so definitely should go for that one as it's completely relevant to this deal as it's also an Orange branded phone.

Got this for just over £30 from Woolworths a few weeks back, actually really impressed with it. Unlocked it, but unfortunately as Vodafone don't sell any Alcatel phones they can't supply me with the settings :( Therefore I can call and text with my Vodafone SIM, but it won't access the internet. Anyone had any success with this? Would be nice to be able to use it as my main phone.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

I looked at this phone and did not get it for this reason: If I purchased and unlocked it there was no de-branded ROM I could load, it has no wifi only 2g and not being able to set the APN means just calls and perhaps SMS if I could change the message centre setting from Orange.

So I did not get it! If anyone knows how to debrand / set up other APNs then this might get as hot as the "other" Orange branded phone who's name we cannot mention. Both are made by ZTE.

This one does not need a blackberry account as it can link to most mail providers, once the APN is set up!

I wanted a DIY de-brand like the other Orange branded phone!

This link seems to explain how to set up the APN for Giff gaff on a RIO unlocked

Seems the HTTP proxy is needed the instructions are not that clear but might make more sense if you have the phone. If you get stuck as on this thread or PM I can look up the APN settings for your carrier...

http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Help-Ask-the-community-got-stuck/Orange-Rio-internet-settings/m-p/123918#M73523

From what I can make out not having this phone or a Giff Gaff account! is that setting the proxy to HTTP brings up some new menus where you can set up bits of the APN....

"I've got it working now, you need to go to the HTTP and press OK, then it lets you enter the proxy detail"

Says the last post on the thread!

:| does it have wi-fi ??

No Wifi

Camera: 2MP with Video Capture using MPEG4
Color display: 320x240 2.41 inches TFT with 262k colours
Email: POP3 IMAP4
WAP: Yes
Phone Memory: 6mb
Memory Card: Micro SD

Hom page http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/462117

Its a ZTE phone looks like a Blackberry but will work with any email provider that supports pop and imap etc.

No wifi 2g only

Unlocks are free / simple

No debrand and hidden menu needed to set up with other providers services.

Value phone for folk who need mobile email on 2g with no need for an expensive blackberry account. Keyboard makes it ideal for txt and email.

Not much in the way of apps or custom ROMs not android just a value feature phone.
