I rung Orange yesterday evening and registered a new free sim, as I have an iPhone I asked for their iPhone tariff. The guy said no problem and he would activate that for me now.

The iPhone tariff comes with 250mb free internet per month plus 12 months free Wi-Fi at BT Openzone's.

All for FREE!!!

How awesome is that!

Ok, so it's only 250mb, but they said I should not even have to top up the first time to get this!

You NEED to ask for the iPhone pay as you go tariff, with 12 months free internet. This is NOT the Dolphin tariff.

Also, I did not use a Micro Sim, so this will work with a normal sim

Cool. I thought orange would only offer the iphone tarrif for the micro sims that they charge £15 for.

More details of Oranges iPhone PAYG tarrif can be found here.

If anyone else gets this than let everyone know plz. Hot if true!

sounds great

Indeed, sim free phone sounds a plan if this is available...

I suspect the 12 months is for wifi, not 3G.. For 250mb 3G you need to top up each month, no?

Pay as you go SIM cards for the iPhone4

Already got an iPhone 4 and want a pay as you go SIM to use with it? You’ll need a micro SIM, which is smaller than a standard SIM. Micro SIMs cost £15 plus you need to make a £10 top-up when you buy one. Each pay as you go micro SIM comes with 250MB UK mobile internet browsing each month and unlimited Wi-Fi* for 12 months.

To purchase your pay as you go micro SIM, please call 0800 079 2000

* Fair usage policy of 750MB/Month applies to BT Openzone Wi-Fi.
See terms for full details.

the T&C's from Orange regarding the iPhone PAYG

PAYG iPhone Terms

If you're connecting or upgrading to a pay as you go iPhone on Orange, you get 12 months' free mobile internet and Wi-Fi. A text will be sent to confirm when the free mobile internet and Wi-Fi offers have been applied (these messages may take up to 24 hours). A text will also be sent when the offers are due to expire. If you leave Orange or transfer to pay monthly you can't take this offer with you. The free mobile internet offer only applies in the UK and is capped at 250MB per month, after which standard pay as you go data charges apply. You can monitor how much data you are using by calling 343. The free Wi-Fi offer gives you unlimited Wi-Fi at BT openzone hotspots in the UK (to find a hotspot, check out http://www.btopenzone.co.uk). The offer is also subject to a fair usage limit of 750MB each month. If you go over this limit, we (Orange) may monitor your usage and withdraw the offer from your account. But 750MB is an awful lot to play with. So hopefully it won't come to that.

Looks like it's 250MB per month for the 12 months, plus Openzone Wifi. My understanding is that you'll have to top-up once though (the first time).

Good deal if true, but I'm sure you have to pay them somewhere for it. The old O2 12-month iPhone internet SIMs required a £10 top up at the start IIRC.

mumbojumbo
Thanks, chesso. It confirms the £25 charge - £15 for the sim card plus a compulsory £10 top-up.

In this case I am unsure about this deal anymore. It is possible to pick up 3GB in 3months mobile broadband sim card with 3 on amazon for under 7 quid. 4 times that works out £28.

Any specific numner/department to try?

I just phoned the usual PAYG connection number, 0800 079 0006, and when the automated bot asks you a question, you just say "operator" and they patch you through.

They did say I might have to top up with £10 the first time, to activate the SIM.

But I am waiting the 72hrs they said it would take to place the bundle on the account first and see if I need to though!

free internet free WiFi i thought you got this free anyway just download an app and scan and its legal
#19
OpenZone requires a username and password to connect to it ..otherwise you have to pay ridiculous amounts of money to them. "connecting" to the hotspot is not what is in question here.

Also why pay £15 for the sim - just cut your normal sim to fit, thats what i done and it works perfectly!
#21
I did that too, saved me £15 and works the best...
#22
Can you get the same deal with a normal sim?

It would be handy for where I cannot get 3G coverage inside pubs etc that have wifi but 3G is lousy inside.
#23
will this work on my 3gs with a normal sim?
#24
Yes^ I could not get my contract sim to work in my unlocked AU bought 3GS (??) last May with data.

I grabbed a O payg sim and registered as a i-phone user and got the deal and was surfing over Openzone on my laptop in LHR T5 waiting for volcanic ash to move - I would have posted such but I thought you savvy lot would have known already this deal LOL

I have an Orange San Francisco phone and an Orange SIM card with 10.00 credit on it. If I called Orange & told them that I had cut down the SIM card to the micro-SIM size would they give me the 1 year free internet deal?

I don't have a iPhone 4, I don't know where the rumor about needing a Micro Sim came from!!

I just used a standard free sim that I had ordered of there website ages ago!
#28
i wonder if they will punt you if they realise your not using the sim in an iphone - i was using an O2 iphone sim a while back in an android phone and they punted me :(

Would this work in an iPad effectively making it free to use via 3G for 12 months?

Maybe! Who knows, worth a shot?!
#31
anyone had any luck setting up an existing payg sim?, I rang earlier and they came out with some **** about having to topup £5 every month and having to ringup every month for the free 250mb, they didnt really seem to know what the deal or scheme was plus I got nowhere on the 0800 079 2000 number they said that was sales only, was told to ring the 450 number from phone and sort it out
#32
I too just called them and they don't know about this offer. I was passed around 4 departments too.
#33
yeah i got passed from pillar to post also Im glad I only have a payg sim with them would hate to think thats the level of CS im stuck with on a contract as its pretty poor, Ive had virgin and are currently with Tesco and from experience both V and T have been much better
#34
I am pretty sure this deal is only for new connections
#35
I have a sim only pay monthly orange sim, they offered me 600 mins, 200 texts, 30 photo messages and unlimited internet (500mb) for only £10.22 for 18 months periods, much better than yours!
#36

SkipRat, No, I am not on a 18 month contract, it's a Sim only rolling contract, and the offer mentioned is for 18 months as I was threaten to leave!

So I buy a micro sim off eBay for a quid, phone Orange to register, ask for the iPhone PAYG tariff and that's it? 250mb a month for nothing and free Openzone wifi? Do I need to top up first?
