Hear it's far more restrictive than the San Francisco, though.
Can this be unlocked for free/Upgraded to higher Android etc ?

Already posted this as part of a larger thread (thought it was better rather than listing all phones individually). Might be worth a thread on its own mind you so more people can see it. However, don't think the Code you mentioned is valid any longer and has changed (re the below thread).

This phone has an LG approved update to 2.1 available and some intrepid modders have managed to get 2.2 onto it.

To answer a common question, this has a resistive single-touch screen.

Reviews tend to be a bit meh about this phone but they seem to be comparing it with phones which aren't £65. I think I paid £100 for mine and I think it's a nice little phone. Buy it but don't be expecting the HTC Desire.

It is a nice phone, I prefer it to the San Francisco....but now I've gone back to iPhone.

the resistive touch screen is actually quite nice. and some even more intrepid modders have managed to get 2.3 on it too. i just wish i could find a guide to modding it that doesn't assume tons of previous knowledge of modding phones.

not very good phone

me and the wife both have these phones, and we are both on our 2nd after the 1st ones broke. Now arguing with CPW about taking these back as mine keeps slowing down and dropping calls and the wifes is coming apart where the charger plugs in.

seemed like a good buy at the time for the price (paid£100) but regretting buying them now!!!

not a fan of the resistive touchscreen so i cant be tempted but ill add heat for the price, gd find.

i bought one as a prezzy for my sister when it was 100£. it is a nice phone, looks nice and everything but after a while she said she cant install any apps on it anymore. altough the phone had plenty of internal memory left.

ps: the screen looked and worked ok, but it worked much better with a pen rather than finger. at the time i had nokia E72 and i thought the lg optimus was much nicer because of andoid and touchscreen.

These phones are really cheap and nasty. The san fran is a good buy for a decent screen and the wildfire an option for poor screen but better performance. Avoid this one.

In fact, this looks like a comparable phone for half the money. Very similar hardware specs but I can't comment on performance of the mini: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/t-mobile-pulse-mini-29-99-plus-10-top-up-6-months-web/901452

Nonsense. The San Fran has exactly the same processor and the Wildfire/Pulse a slightly older and slower one.

8/10 review here: Phone Arena - LG Optimus GT540 Review

The LG is great if you can type with fingernails and more interested in talk/email/texting than browsing/games. Battery life is stunning, at least double what I get from a HTC Desire (4 days vs 2).

The slowing down happens because of Android getting clogged up but the dropping calls has just reminded me... my one keeps randomly losing connection to the mobile network, I just thought it was an issue with O2 but I'm guessing it could be related to this issue. Is this similar to what you experienced?

I didn't know they'd got 2.3 on it and I completely agree with you that the guides are very complex to follow.
