Some people choose to spend their money on different things, and its not for you to judge. Some people buy nice cars, some people go on extravagant holidays, some people buy nicer houses, some people buy macs over pc's. Some might buy a netbook instead. And some people, spend lots on phones Its their choice...

Also, for £20 you are obviously wanting a phone that purely makes calls and texts. Whereas Desire S owners will want to take pictures, go on the web, watch videos, play games, do their shopping, send emails etc etc. You obviously don't need to do that, but others will.

Note to OP: Title says 02 (zero two). It should be O2 (oscar two).

Zero two is a common typo, but it gets lost in searches if typed wrong.

Don't even worth the half of the price.

For someone who doesn't want to judge you're doing an awful lot of judging, and worse, an awful lot of posting about it.

the desire s has a smaller screen(3.7inch vs 4inch), lower mp cameras(5mp vs 8mp rear camera & vga vs 1.3mp front camera). not sure how the gpu compares in the 2, I know the desire s has an improved gpu over the original desire.

I have the original desire, only real fault I can find(and would consider going to the desire s) would be the internal storage tho if all the apps allowed you to use the apps2sd feature of froyo it wouldn't be a major problem.

reading a desire s vs desire article(think it was on techrader) the desire has the slight edge but not enough to warrant an upgrade if you already have the desire.

You forgot to buy a Satnav too.... The games aren't crappy, but they may well be on a £35 phone! You clearly have no understanding of what you can do with an Android phone.

Whats the difference between the desire, the desire HD, and the desire S … Whats the difference between the desire, the desire HD, and the desire S ?Noob here. my bad.

Don't worry, were all here to help

The desire was HTC's flagship model last year. The Desire S, is the updated version of the original Desire. I won't go into the differences between the two, as the new S version is undoubtedly better and the same price. You would be mad to get the old one now.

The desire HD is newer than the old desire, but older than the new htc range. Again, as there are new devices out now I wouldn't recommend this. In fact, there are now 2 replacements for the Desire HD more or less.

    - HTC Incredible S, 4" screen, 8 megapixel camera.
    - The new (released today) HTC sensation (Top specs in every way).

    -----

So in all, there are now 3 main HTC devices.

    - The Desire S ( the most portable)
    - The Incredible S (the good all rounder)
    - The Sensation (the powerhouse, flagship model).

I wouldn't advise the original desire or desire HD now that there are newer devices... unless cost is really an issue.

I have read that before, but am not sure it includes the Desire S - it's definitely for the original Desire though.

Anyway this is an excellent deal for a new phone just out. I do think the price will drop further, especially when there are a few dual core phones about. It has to compete against more competition than the original Desire had when it launched. Still a great phone which I would be more than happy with though. When the price drops some more I will be getting one. ;-)

The incredible s has a better camera, and a bigger screen. The desire s is more pocketable, apparently has a better battery and has gingerbread too. They are fairly similar other than size to be honest.

Seems odd - why have 2 different HTC products with completely different names, but spec-wise have them so similar!

I know. This is exactly my dilema. I have the original desire an also have my complaints
Internal memory, camera and battery. I love the desire s, especially its looks and size. But now, HTC go and bring out two phones both of which have their own advantages. Why on earth wouldn't they just put the incredible s camera into the desire? Plus, now the incredible s is out , what's the point in the desire HD ? I haven't a clue if its worth upgrading, or what I 'd upgrade to.

HTC phones usually share similar hardware internally. My Diamond and Hero both shared CPUs even though they were purchased a year apart, which the wildfire still uses to this day, maybe slightly tweaked.

The Desire, Desire HD, Incredible S, Desire S, all share similar specs in different form factors. Makes sense to keep production costs low and attract different sectors of the market.

Well looks like HTC marketing is working, as it means you are choosing between two HTC products rather than comparing them to the Iphone or Samsung galaxy S or Motorola Droid/Milestone

I have a Desire HD, love it, if anyone is scared of the 4.0 inch phones being a little big, dont worry after a few days it feels totally normal. I couldnt go back to a smaller phone now, web browsing just isnt as friendly on smaller screens.

Check out the otter box commuter cases for all you considering buying a new phone.

Have you agree with you, love my DHD, came from a Blackberry to a 4.3" DHD and wow what a difference it makes having a bigger screen especially for web browsing!

Patiently waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S II or HTC Evo/Pyramid!

This has slightly better specs than the original Desire, but doesn't come without it's share of new problems. Wi-Fi cutting out for one, when held in a certain way. The improved battery life is probably down to Android 2.3 improving on killing background apps, which the original Desire is due to get this/next month.

All in all, it made the decision for me to purchase the original Desire instead as the spec upgrades are too minimal, £100 cheaper too. Review: techradar.com/rev…iew

In terms of performance, the LG wins outright. Better camera, processor, battery etc. But some (myself included) prefer the hardware and HTC sense over the LG.
