As a comparison to another lowER value android phone the HTC wildfire, the photos are 3mp instead of 5mp and look rather alot worse, i've compared them. The battery life it approximately half of the HTC wildfire, HOWEVER the screen is bigger and 480x800 res so its far easier to read, you are able to zoom in on webpages and read correctly where as you can only see in 100% zoomed in or fully zoomed out on the htc wildfire. The wildfire uses 240x320 resolution so there are many apps that aren't available on the android market for it, there's many more available for the Orange San Francisco. The cpu is 600mhz vs 528mhz and is considerably faster on the orange san francisco i've found. The HTC Wildfire has Android 2.2 firmware update available now. The orange san francisco is way cheaper. The Samsung i5500 Galaxy Europa is available for £99+£10 topup at e2save, it also has advantages and disadvantages over the san francisco.

Put your IMEI in (which is printed on the box and is also available at Settings-About Phone-Status-IMEI), select ZTE, leave default model as ZTE BLUEBELT. Put a non-orange sim card in and enter the code and press "unlock" and it will then be done.
Samsung i900 Screen Protector fits brilliantly without any cutting. For a soft gel case the Nokia e71 is a great fit but will require you to make a hole as the speaker is covered, as of 8th dec there are no silicone cases that are designed for the Orange san francisco available yet, usually they are out a few weeks after new handsets are released.

This phone for can sometimes be bought for £159 with one years pre-paid credit on orange in shop. Also £129 for the phone with 6 months credit. (Credit is loaded automatically every month at £10 for one whole year on the sim card, along with free extras which you choose such as free internet or calls etc). This is alot cheaper than buying the phone separate and than topping up £10 each month over the year. You can buy this phone on contract on orange's site but its very expensive, cheaper to buy the phone and use payg sims or the £7.50/month vodafone sim or £10/month tesco sim depending on your needs.
Vodafone UK 3G/MMS settings for PAYG and also Contract sims, tested and works perfectly: http://pastebin.ca/1991037
Wifi is a problem for this phone, for many users it stops working, we believe this is a driver problem of the handset, its unknown if orange will release a software update, i can't find an option on the phone to search for software updates, you may need to take it instore to get it upgraded if/when a fix is released. Apparently android 2.2 custom roms fix the wifi problem. Please phone orange and ask about a software update to fix wifi and reply in this thread with their response.
Android 2.2 a.k.a froyo won't be released by orange according to their tweet: "We have no plans to launch 2.2 on the San Francisco I'm afraid". There is no option on the phone to check for updates so unless they release a usb software update online or their staff instore do them then its unlikely we'll ever get an official fix for the wifi not working all the time, which is likely a driver problem.
Blade wifi fix a free app available on android market reduces/fixes the wireless dying when your phone is in sleep mode, another way to reduce the problem is to disable this setting: Settings-Wireless & network settings-wifi settings-menu (button)-Advanced-Wifi sleep policy-Never
Screens are now TFT and not AMOLED in order to reduce their costs. Some older batches of the grey phones used to be AMOLED but not anymore. TFT reduces battery life and has a backlight when the screen is black instead of being completely black which AMOLED does. To find out if you phone has AMOLED you should switch it on, the black background surrounding the orange logo should be completely black, if its grey your screen is TFT. Another way to find out if your phone is TFT or AMOLED is by dialing *983*24474636# in the dialer. Your phone will then say 1 of the following:
