great deal! I used this to return something i didn't like - seller had to refund postage too hahahah!
It's people like you that have ruined ebay.
Change of mind returns only apply to ebay sellers with business accounts.
Those stating they won't list items, etc etc are rather confused about how ebay works
If you're a private seller, this deal should make no difference to you! - if you don't want to accept change of mind returns, then select no returns on your listing! (note a scammer can still claim item not as described and get you to pay for return postage!)
If you're a business seller, there are still positives from this 'deal', sometimes buyers will state item is faulty or even purposely damage items just so they can return it for free..however with this deal, there is no need and rather than you footing the return postage bill, it's on PayPal. This could theoretically raise sells and unsure buyers make more purchases and most end up keeping the item anyway.
Scammers have always and will always scam by stating item not as described, this isn't ebays fault, it's distance selling laws (CCR). It's abused not only on ebay but amazon, and just about every other online retailer.
if your're a buyer. it means you can return an item without paying return postage.
win win all round.
I agree with you in principle however ebay allows change of mind returns for items that cannot be resold due to hygiene and cannot be returned in saleable condition.
Obviously no business seller is going to quibble a change of mind for an unopened item or an item has been inspected and then placed in it's box so it can be resold as new.

Indeed, but this is the cost of doing business on ebay, No one is forcing businesses to trade on ebay

Comments above were from private sellers.

I paid for a purchase when they had the Nectar double-up offer. It shows on my PayPal as £0.00, although I did use PayPal to complete the transaction. I wonder if this would be covered, as the Ts and Cs state that the purchase must be completed entirely with PayPal? I have tried asking PayPal on Twitter but they do not answer specific questions, even with direct message. Anyone tried it for this type of purchase?
I always forget to use this!

I have tried to use this return shipping refund service from paypal for three parcels and they locked my paypal account and now I can't use paypal at all. They told me I had too many refund requests. So I have lost 40 GBP for return shipping and lost my paypal as I can't register new paypal with same credit card.
Paypal blocking you had nothing to do with this offer, you most likely had a lot of returns overtime in total and luckily PayPal is taking good example from Amazon and started booting those who abuse the system.
Not saying that you did, it could happen to anyone who had a lot of bad luck too and did not abuse the system. There is a certain number of returns that anyone can make before getting permanently banned.
Returns are not free even with PayPal refunding the return charge to buyer or seller ,seller is out of pocket every time, outgoing postage was paid for and it will not be refunded to seller by anyone obviously. Not to mention people who are buying two or three of items only because they not sure if they will fit and returning two out of three orders....

If nothing else, this posting has demonstrated how inane the HOT/COLD system on this website has become.
The same post last month went to +316!http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/5-off-your-next-purchase-with-paypal-inactive-accounts-includes-ebay-2625831
I think it shows how the voting is used more as a tool for disappointment. It's quite clearly an active offer for some, as displayed on the PayPal page.
I'm not eligible unfortunately, but heat added from me OP. Great chance for people to at least check. Thanks for sharing.
Sorry Buzz......read again!!! It was exactly the same post last month that got +316. This month it reaches -297.
Explain to me how that is not an example of the inanity of this voting system?

My apologies, the comment wasn't based as a comparative to the previous post. I was simply stating it's quite obviously an active offer by PayPal that everybody can clearly see when clicking 'Get Deal'

Why would it be cold? Simple. Due to members not being offered the account specific offer.

I'm not really concerned what it received last month (or next month), more so as to why it's cold.

I just got this offer in my inbox? So what's the catch? What's in it for them? Why would they want to pay my return postage? To get my personal data? Seems a bit dodgy

The catch is they never give you the refund. I've tried 3 times now, each time using fleabays pre-paid postage option so Paypal can see the receipt for the postage but no matter what you do they just ask for more info. You upload the postage invoice you have in Paypal, they can see the refund for the original item from the seller then they reject your claim. It's bloody hopeless.

they messed about for nearly 3 weeks asking for all the info I gave them in the beginning but finally approved the refund!
same here, going round in circles with them telling me to do what I have already done, not worth the hassle for 2-99 postage!!! 6 identical emails now
Terrible service!!!! Telus ask u for duplicate info you've already uploaded! Unless u nag and nag you'll never get anything back

I have SumUp reader and iZettle reader. IZettle wins over every time. The SumUp reader is in the glove box as a last resort back up.
What are the advantages of iZettle? Ive got SumUp card reader and You have to pair the card reader with your mobile for every single transaction...annoying Is that the case with iZettle? Thanks
The new iZettle reader (the white one) is very fast at connecting to my mobile. No problems.

Any downsides?
Takes over a week to get your money
Worse still - you may not get the money at all. PayPal have quite a reputation for withholding payments, and all it's going to take is a stolen card, or a chargeback claim, and that's your money gone.

Nonsense.
Chargeback claims for chip and pin payments are next to non existent.
And the very few that do happen the liability falls on the side of the bank.
Contactless, they are 100% guaranteed by the banks / card issuers, the retailer bares no liability and will get paid, even if the card / transaction is from a stolen or lost card
From the PayPal T&C:
"Can PayPal help me with chargebacks?
A chargeback happens when a buyer asks their credit card issuer to reverse a transaction that has already cleared. This can mean that a payment you’ve received in your PayPal account could be reversed, even if you’ve already posted the goods.
PayPal will help you as much as possible if you wish to dispute a chargeback, although the final decision lies with the credit card company."
You're quoting from paypal e-money and customer not present terms, but I'll play along.
In reality for chip and pin transactions chargebacks aren't entertained by card companies, other than for defective goods, cases where someone has used a card and pin without your authorization, the bank will cover the refund, if they entertain the claim, which they shouldn't because there is liability on the part of the customer by disclosing their pin to a 3rd party.
And contactless payments won't ever be reversed from the retailer, the bank will cover the cost of any charge backs / fraud etc
For a retailer chip and pin and contactless are pretty much as good as cash, contactless much more so, because the refund can't be refunded from the retailer even or defective goods.
I'm quoting from the T&C applicable to this device actually - that's where this condition came from. I think we have to agree to disagree about the extent to which PayPal might apply it. PayPal operates very differently from mainstream banks and chargebacks are perfectly feasible.
Yes, and the bit you're quoting applies to customer not present transactions, ie typing the card number in to the device itself.
OK - since you want chapter and verse:PayPal Here™ Agreement [this applies to the readers]This PayPal Here™ Agreement (“PayPal Here Terms”) is a contract between you (“you”) and PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l et Cie, S.C.A., 22-24 Boulevard Royal, L-2449 Luxembourg (“PayPal”, “we” or “us”) and applies to your use of the Services to accept payments from PayPal Accounts, credit cards and debit cards into your PayPal Account using the PayPal Here Card Reader and software (“PayPal Here”). You must read, agree with and accept all of the terms and conditions contained in these PayPal Here Terms. By purchasing the PayPal Here Card Reader and/or using PayPal Here, you acknowledge that you have agreed to these PayPal Here Terms. Capitalised terms that are not defined in these PayPal Here Terms, including Section 15 (Definitions), are defined in the PayPal User Agreement.14. PayPal seller protection. [from the PayPal Here™ Agreement]PayPal Here transactions are not eligible for PayPal seller protection. Please also read section 4.3 (Risk of Reversals, Chargebacks and Claims) of the PayPal User Agreement to understand the risk of Chargebacks arising when you receive a payment.*4.3 [PayPal User Agreement] Risk of Reversals, Chargebacks and Claims. The receipt of a payment into your PayPal Account does not equate to the receipt of cleared funds. A notification that E-money has been sent to you, does not amount to a receipt of E-money in your Account unless you have accepted the payment. You acknowledge and agree that a payment transaction is completed and received by you even if it becomes subject to a Reversal, Chargeback. Claim, Reserve or hold. When you receive a payment, you are liable to PayPal for the full amount of the payment plus any Fees if the payment is later invalidated for any reason. In addition to any other liability, if there is a Reversal, or if you lose a Chargeback or Claim and you are not entitled to a payment under the Seller Protection Programme, you will owe PayPal an amount equal to the Reversal, Chargeback or Claim and our Fees per Schedule 1 (including a Chargeback Fee if applicable) and PayPal will debit your Balance to recover such an amount. If a sender of a payment files a Chargeback, the credit card company, not PayPal, will determine who wins the Chargeback. You can find out more about Chargebacks by reviewing our Chargeback Guide, accessible via the PayPal Security Centre and the section called: “Selling Safely”. The PayPal Security Centre is accessed via the PayPal website.
So shall will just ignore that it even says e-money, that the credit card company will dictate if a chargeback is settled, and a whole host of regulations surrounding card payments and chargebacks and the like.
Paypal has no say in credit / debit card chargebacks in face to face transactions, and a credit card company will not entertain a chargeback other than for defective goods, and yet your initial claim was that paypal had a history of this.
A chargeback where a pin is used, even if it is a stolen card won't be reclaimed from the retailer, using a pin and having it authorized, indemnified the retailer, and the payment is as good as cash http://www.theukcardsassociation.org.uk/cards-transactions/card-present-transactions.asp
"When an authorisation has been given, the merchant is protected from cardholders claiming they did not take part in the transaction and the card issuer charging back the transaction. However, this is not a defence against a chargeback if the goods or services supplied are not as described or are faulty. In addition, when merchants accepts a chip & PIN transactions that have been correctly processed, as advised by their acquirer using a compliant chip & PIN terminal, a merchant may benefit from a liability shift should a chargeback be raised because the card is lost or stolen"
As I said, we'll just have to disagree on how PayPal will use their T&C. :|

Waiting on two "refunds" and Paypal want you to jump through hoops. Will see if this actually happens or not.
I have used this 3 times now and have had no issues.
I don't agree that filling in a simple online form (name, item type, location returned too, cost of postage) and sending proof of purchase and proof of postage is 'jumping through hoops'. You want them to give you a refund with no questions asked? You may as well grumble that they don't actually pick the item up and give you cash in hand.

I agree with DaBluone, after one week and 5 requests for different information and being given the choice of options at 2 stages they came back and wanted the other option as well both times, I'm still waiting to be satisfied. Why are you different to both of us?

Hehe snap, they claim I ticked the options I didn't
What a crock of poo. Has anyone ever got this to work? Constant replies claiming you've not sent this that and the other with no obvious way to do it, the whole thing is geared up on you saying "it's only £3 I won't bother" - worse than cashback was on a mobile phone 10yrs ago.

I hope if the games are different they will get an update title like mario kart 8.5 though.

Would make sense but I doubt it. Reminds me of when I was watching Rouge One the other day, I was thinking to myself why is this not called Star Wars Episode 3.5.

I wonder if Switch will use the same eShop funds.
I am hoping the catalog will be the same as the wiiU as I have acouple of digital titles already, assuming it is fully backwards compatible.
The switch only has one screen, the Wii U has 2, so backwards compatibility is very unlikely with Wii U games i would have thought :(
splatoon and mario kart are both going to be on the switch, I know that some titles will work I dont know about all yet, I was thinking of eshop titles i have though or nes-wii games
They are not going to be the same versions though? A bit like the new Wooly Yoshi game on 3DS has lots of adjustments and extras rather than a straight copy of the Wii U version.

I'd be surprised in Mario Kart 8 for example if there was not a new cup or two i.e. new tracks, along with some new characters. It would make sense for them to sort out the dreadful battle modes too, and have battle mode arenas. Maybe even subtle adjustments like the ability to keep a spare item at your bum will be made.
when they ported hyrule warriors to 3ds that got a ton of extra content unavailable to wiiu for some reason, didn't know about yoshi's wooly world though.
they will probably add additional features to mario kart like you say, not sure about splatoon though as they updated that so frequently would that mean additional content on the switch would be from the start or would they do periodic releases again?
The servers for both games are going to have to be compatible with wiiU players though I would imagine or the player pool will be quite small at least initially.
I hope if the games are different they will get an update title like mario kart 8.5 though.

Nintendo has also always maintained that the Switch isn't the replacement to the Wii U
And yet, Nintendo have stopped games development and stopped manufacturing the WiiU. It is a replacement, they just don't want to P off all the WiiU owners (and buyers of the remaining stock). Hence their rather bizarre claim.
I'm with you on this. Damage control from Nintendo considering the relatively short life-span of the Wii U.
I'm kind of seeing it as wiiU was a prototype to the switch, im mad wiiu never got it's own zelda title (hyrule warriors was a bigger game on the 3ds weirdly) but still excited for the switch.

Thanks OP. This was a good deal for us. However it's now 7:06pm on Christmas Day and the code has not yet been delivered to my wife's email address, having set today as the delivery date for it - anyone else having this experience?!
Thank you

Personally not bothered if the deal goes cold - it helped save me some money and if it helps someone else then goal achieved.

I did mention a couple of times that it starts on Tuesday... (_;)
This is the only promotion that I know of - and those holding out for a decent PayPal promotion will be disappointed. This is to highlight PayPal's plans for their iTunes promo just before Christmas which they have done for the last 2 years.
10% is the worst discount compared to the past deal.Is there a Itunes promotion in other store at the moment?
I've been holding off for PayPal iTunes discount as it's normally pretty decent. I'm sure I've had 20-25% in the past. 10% is rubbish but heat added as it's money off either way.

Successfully received £800 credit. Dunno what to do with this though
You could buy me something nice with it.
After I make a purchase above 150 GBP

- How will I setup payments which will end after 4 months?
- If there is no money in my Paypal account will the payment be pulled from my bank account just like it currently does for regular purchases?

Oh and be careful when checking out as it will automatically choose paypal credit on every paypal order no matter the price. Just a heads up for those who don't want to end up putting something on credit they don't want to. :)

I see this get mentioned but I took the S7 edge last year on PayPal credit and it has never once defaulted to the credit option when going to pay elsewhere. I must be lucky eh?

Mine has never defaulted to PayPal credit either. Always defaults to my bank account. Think people need to log into their PayPal accounts and set their defaults correctly.

Many people are not tech savy and gullible to fall for these debt traps.

I am very tech savvy, thank you, and it's not an option to choose my bank card. I am not gullible in the slightest either. I used Paypal Credit to buy something this year and paid it back within 3 months (yes, 3 months is correct and my choice). It helped me buy something at the time that I didn't want to pay outright for, as I like to have money held back for a rainy day.

This or 25 month credit cards (which you seem to be praising) will lead any irresponsible person into debt. The time period for repayment is irrelevant. The company is irrelevant. People are responsible for their own decisions and actions.

Oh and it's 14.9% interest... same as a lot of credit cards. At least that is my interest rate given to me...

Astonished to get an email this morning confirming my refund!
It only took 18 working days instead of the promised 5.

Okay, good to know I'm not an exception. Its been about 10 days now. I just think when you give a deadline, you should probably meet it.. I guess I'll try and chase it up.

I and others have been emailing that address, resulting in auto responses or nothing at all.

It is good to know though that someone has actually gotten a refund recently.
Just received my refund submitted on December 14th - worth chasing up your claim if it hasn't been paid yet - there is an email address in the claim confirmation email.

I also noticed that PayPal have extended the scheme to the end of 2017 and will cover 12 returns:

We'll refund up to £15 of return shipping costs for up to 12 eligible purchases before 31 December 2017.
Still nothing from Dec 9th given up on it TBH...

Company History of PayPal

PayPalIn just a few years, PayPal has risen to become a household name among internet users. Founded in the late 1990s in California’s Silicon Valley, PayPal was bought by eBay in 2002, and began expanding across the world. By 2010, there were over 100 million active PayPal accounts worldwide, while in 2012 the firm processed over $145 billion in payments. Nowadays, the firm is the market leader in allowing customers to store, receive and send electronic payments, making it easy to shop online or spend as you travel.

PayPal: Pay Everywhere

The PayPal Services

To set up a PayPal account, users need to go to www.paypal.com and provide the required information. All personal accounts are linked to e-mail addresses, so that when you make a purchase, all you need to do is enter your address, instead of credit or debit card information.

PayPal offers a range of services to their customers, including:

  • Personal payment services – Customers can set up personal accounts that enable them to store money online in a range of currencies. These accounts can also be linked to tablets or mobiles, allowing you to shop with them in conventional retail stores, and you can receive money from any contact, anywhere in the world.
  • PayPal Credit – There is also an option to pay with credit, allowing PayPal’s customers to take out overdrafts and pay them back later. This includes 0% interest for the first 4 months on all purchases over £150 in value, this deal can be used as many times as you wish.
  • Business services – PayPal has become a major player in financing eCommerce operations. Companies can sign up to accept PayPal payments on their stores, take Chip and PIN payments at their bricks and mortar locations, create invoices easily and even borrow money to supplement their cashflow.
  • Partners and Developers – PayPal partners with coders and developers in creating cutting edge apps and code for online sellers. Innovative retailers can partner with PayPal Developer to introduce custom code into their website.

Brands on Offer from PayPal

Major brand partners with PayPal Shopping include:

Making a Purchase Using PayPal

Signing up with PayPal is simple. Go to the UK website at www.paypal.co.uk and click “Sign up.” Now, choose a personal account, type in your e-mail address and a password, and you’re ready to go.

Using PayPalYou can now head to your PayPal dashboard, where you can manage your account and add credit or debit card accounts. That way, you can transfer money into and out of your PayPal account easily. However, adding cards is not an instant process. PayPal requires verification that you are the owner of the card, and you may need to enter information from a recent bank statement before being able to complete the process.

Once your cards are linked to your PayPal account, you can start making purchases. When you see the PayPal logo at a checkout page, simply enter the e-mail address you linked to your PayPal account and the payment will be made. It will show up as soon as the payment is processed as an invoice in your account, which can be accessed via your personal dashboard.

There is also a separate application process for PayPal Credit. This service allows you to borrow money for purchases at low interest rates and to pay in installments if the option exists.

Sales at PayPal.com

PayPal don’t offer conventional sales like other retailers. However, they do have a retail section on their website that features the latest deals from their partners.. For example, you can save money at high street names like Boots or online outlets like the Apple iTunes Store. Most of the deals are linked to discount codes, and are usually timed for major events like Christmas, Valentine’s Day or Father’s Day.

You can also expect plenty of PayPal offers when Black Friday arrives in late November. This is the day that the Christmas shopping season kicks off, and online retailers tend to offer huge discounts. Many of them will team up with PayPal, so check out their HotUKDeals listings as the day approaches.

Payment Methods That Can Link With PayPal Accounts

Almost any form of credit or debit card can be linked to your PayPal account, enabling you to top it up or transfer cash to a normal bank account. Major cards include: American Express, Visa Debit, Visa Credit, MasterCard, Solo and Electron.

  • Customers can add as many cards as they like to their personal PayPal account, but the same card can only be used on two PayPal accounts simultaneously.
  • To add a card, go to your personal dashboard and click on the “Wallet” link. Now choose “Add a card”, select the correct options and enter your card number. Now press “Save.”
  • PayPal will usually deposit a small amount of money in the account along with a PayPal Code. This code is needed before the card can be authorised and will arrive instantly.

PayPal are also one of the most security aware firms on the web, and seek to protect customers’ personal information at all times.

Returning Items Bought Via PayPal

All purchases are covered by PayPal Buyer Protection, which assists customers in getting their money back when an incorrect or damaged item is received. If successful, you will receive the full value of the item plus and postage and packaging costs incurred during the purchase.

To initiate the Buyer Protection process, you’ll need to let PayPal know that there is a problem with your order:

  1. To do so, log into your account as normal. Now, go to the “Resolution Centre” of your account. You should see a list of recent transactions at the bottom of the page.
  2. Click “Dispute a transaction” and follow the steps provided. Make sure you pick the right transaction, and provide any information PayPal requires.
  3. You and the seller involved will now be able to agree upon a resolution. If that doesn’t work, you can escalate it to a “Claim” and PayPal will decide whether to issue a refund.

PayPal Payment

Cancelling Your PayPal Account

  1. Closing a PayPal account is simple and no details will remain on the system. To cancel your account, log into your dashboard.
  2. Go to the “Profile” button and then click the “Close account” link. Now click “Continue” and finally, press the “Close account” button.

PayPal’s Social Media Presence

PayPal offer hundreds of discounts every week with their retail partners, and keeping up with them can be a tough task. One of the best ways to do so is by following their retail team on social media, you can find them at the following locations:

  1. Facebook
  2. Twitter
  3. YouTube
  4. Google+
  5. Instagram
  6. Pinterest

PayPal also maintain a lively blog called PayPal Stories. This is a great place to learn about deals, competitions, app features, downloads, travel tips and fashion ideas in addition to features about economics, tech and the economy.

Using the PayPal App

PayPal pioneered online payments, so it’s no surprise that they have an easy to use, cutting edge smartphone app. The app can be downloaded from the iTunes Store or Google Play. Once you have it installed, you can use it to manage payments and deposits, browse deals and receive notifications about your spending levels.

Pay With the PayPal App

Contacting PayPal

  1. PayPal recommend that customers who need help and support log into their customer service centre, which can be found on the website.
  2. However, you can also contact them through other channels.
  3. They can be reached by phone at 0800 3587911 (8am-10pm Monday to Friday, 8am-9pm Saturdays, 9am-9pm Sundays).
You could also try writing to them at:
  • PayPal Europe
  • Hotham House
  • 1 Heron Square
  • Richmond Upon Thames
  • Surrey, TW9 1EJ
  • United Kingdom

Alternatively, why not check out their handy FAQ section? It contains plenty of routine queries and should be able to assist with the most common problems.

PayPal were pioneers in the world of online shopping, and having a PayPal account makes it much easier to shop for online bargains. Their shopping section is crammed with discounts from the UK’s biggest retailers, so check their pages regularly and be sure to bookmark the PayPal HotUKDeals listings too.
