To take advantage of the 8Gb of real memory you would need to install a 64 bit version of Windows (or other 64 bit operating system).

32 bit windows would only use about 3 and a half Gb of this memory.

If you totalled all the bits up inc post it would be roughly £340, so not bad in a built state. I would go the 4 gb option and save £37. But then I'd rather have my set up anyday as this is ok for general stuff but not a gaming rig. Not a bad deal but not stunning.

True, but 64bit Linux has become pretty usable. The kernel works well for a long time now, and the user space is coming together nicely, too. Even the long standing issue of browser plugins has been solved now:*both Flash and Java are available in 64bit versions.

Windows seems to have a lot further to go. Sure, regular applications work just fine, but even getting a virus scanner for 64bit is tricky, unless you want the "enterprise edition".

for £449 (excludes quidco) can get a dell inspiron dessktop E8400 (3ghz)+2gb ram+500gbHD+23inch full HD screen+vista SP1 OS.

u can just buy a graphix card and 2gb ram separately from other suppliers to upgrade but total should be less than £500...

whats this like for 'middle of the range' gaming?

I'm sure it would be fine at lower detail settings at 1280 resolution. Don't expect Crysis to run any faster than 8FPS though ;-) certainly functional for most stuff.

Counter-Strike, most source games (with the exception of L4D which you'd have to really dumb down), Burnout Paradise, Unreal Tournament 3 and titles from a year or so ago should be fine, you'll struggle with anything that features 'mind-blowing graphics' however.

    Cheers for that :)

Just curious has anyone ever ordered from these guys? if so what do you reckon, what is the customer service like?

    Thanks

1st post and it’s a deal for a company that nobody seems to have heard of. Isn’t that usually treated as suspicious around these parts? Let’s run this stranger out of town. :w00t:

Pointless having a decent PC then throwing a rubbish graphics card like that in it. You'd have to spend another £50 on top to make it worthwhile buying.

    Oops, I missed that.

    That doesn't look promising.

Looks like a good price but note the 3yr warranty is labour only for the 2nd and 3rd years and you still need an O/S.

I'm afraid the 2400 is very much low-end, it was when it was released and it's had two replacements since then. If you're gaming on a mid-range monitor (~£200) then you should be looking at something like a Radeon 4850 or other £100-150 card.

DinoPC deals have been posted on here before and they have been going since at least last september so it's not a complete scam, I can't comment on the quality of their customer service though.

Any system that plays Crysis at max settings is NOT mid-range, even the best high ends can struggle.

The graphics in this one is pretty much useless for new games (even ones that are only 2 years old, it will prob struggle with).
