Have you tested these in the Vostro, I have 2 vostro's(200) here and have tested memory in them without success. Only brand they ship with hynix seems to work Could really do with some here's hoping.

Hey from this other american site it states this same code for the ram memory to be 100% garenteed for vista 200 min towers.
here it is http://www.edgetechcorp.com/memory/upgrade.asp?cid=32546

That'sgood enough for me!

It is cheap but there are cheaper like this at eBuyer. But this is desktop memory and won't fit in a laptop....

Yeah, but this deal is for 1gb not 512mb

I bought two 2 gig sticks from 7dayshop last week. They took 7 days to arrive (which is what I expected) but both sticks were faulty.

The first stick caused the pc to hang at the bios screen and the other caused random blue screens every so often (atleast once an hour).

Both sticks returned and won't be ordering any more cheap memory, especially from these guys.

My seem good, but I would always go for branded RAM, other "may be a different manufacturer" offers from 7day have been a problem.

For long term reliability and quality try:

My interest in these is purely for vostro use, As they are a pain to find compatible memory for cheap(mine anyway). I have tried kingston memory in them but no success.

Is that the same stuff that come with the xps 420.. ? i've 3 gig (2*1gb and 2*512mb) i'm putting on ebay next week. Brand new and never user. Taken from my xps420 when it first arrived. Only swapped it because I has 8gb (4 * 2gb) high performance gaming memory to put in. :)

can you mix 2x 1gb ddr2 800Mhz and 2 x 1gb ddr 667Mhz??? or would this cause problems???
#12
it shouldnt cause problems, the faster ram 800 mhz should slow down to 667 mhz

A few weeks ago I bought a kingston value 1gb ddr2 stick from dvd.co.uk for £12.98 delivered.

Shopping around once you add on postage all the cheap prices are 13-14 pounds at places like play.com. This is not really an exceptional deal its just the standard price everywere.

I totally agree - only a quid or two in it with the postage costs. I've had 3 sticks of 7dayshop RAM over the last few months, one faulty, two working. No problems with the Kingston valueram stuff, I'm much happier buying that for roughly the same price (obviously if compatible). Also 7dayshop delivery is always so slow!

It may be 800 mhz but its voltage is low and the latency is dreadfully low, unbranded as well...I could be wrong ,but it doesn't sound very good. May be better to buy a lower mhz with better latency or simply pay for a better spec?
#16
indeed.

More expensive RAM might just make your computer up to 1% faster

For that reason alone I avoid 7dayshop.com whenever I can, and would rather pay the extra couple of quids to get it from Play.com. Where Play has constantly delivered in 2 or 3 days (although they only promise 2-5 day delivery), I've had sometimes to wait up to over 3 weeks. And when I tried several times to reach them to know what they were doing about it, they proved absolutely helpless to even answer properly.
I know 7dayshop are based in Jersey but that's no excuse as so is Play.

Oh and the last nail in the coffin for me, 7dayshop only delivers to billing address, unlike Play, so I usually find a delivery notice in the mailbox and have to take a trip to the closest delivery centre... still miles away.

Scan sell 1gb Micron DDR2 800 modules for about £11.70 each I believe. Use one of the free delivery options, and works out cheaper, better quality, and faster delivery.

Out of interest...what memory worked with your 420? That also has issues with certain brands of memory so I'm cautious about what to buy.

What's your Ebay ID...will keep an eye out for what your Dell RAM goes on for!

It turns out the Scan ones you refer to are unbranded which is why they are so cheap; I phoned them yesterday to confirm.

[QUOTE=shedloads]I can guarantee that this 1GB PC5300 677 Mhz memory from Play.com works in a Vostro 200 (although any memory of this spec should). I have two of these alongside the two Samsung modules that came with the Vostro and get a Vista score of 5.9 for memory.

Appreciate the info will order some from there,.
Thanks
