nice find!

Not compatable with Windows 7?
#3
Anyone got one and can vouch for the reception of weak signals? If so this seems a great deal.

There is a beta driver HERE if you suffer from weak reception issues.
#7
Please note that HDTV reception in the UK (Freeview HD) is not supported. FreeView HD requires a DVB-T2 receiver - available soon!

Now that is a shame!!
#8
Hmm, interested in this if it really does do well with weak signals.
#9
It won't...Like many it promises much but never delivers!

what is the 6 months license for?
#11
Review suggests that the antenna is just as feeble as most of the others:

Going away for a few days - laptop; check. USB TV tuner; check. Rooftop digital aerial; er...?

Yeah & when you click to buy it comes up with £27.94 & other options.
Anyone got a clue?
The 6 month licence is the software to record pause etc.
You don't really need it

28 quid new now. Dodgy refurb for 7 quidish. Maybe worth a punt as alan sugar would say.
#17
I used to have a similar device (pinnacle) which was pretty good... the aerial provided sucked though!!

Not a bad price though, so have some heat! :)

Can this be used within xbmc?
#19
I had a cheapo one of these that I used with my netbook, it would not tune in any stations with the supplied aerial. I plugged it into my rooftop aerial, tuned in and stored the channels and after that I could use it with the little aerial that came with it.
#20
Good deal but as the above mentioned, it won't work properly without a rooftop aerial with a strong signal to receive all the freeview channels. I regularly use one of these with my desktop and it works well with windows media centre.

Why not simply use TVcatchup?

Don't think XBMC has provision for live capture or handling tuners - MythTV is perhaps what you want?

Live capture for XBMC is currently under development, it is in the roadmap for v11 which should be available around April.

And if you are going down the route of Mythtv and Linux beware many DVB-T usb sticks are not supported by Linux, have a look at V4L to check for support.

Loads of channels available on your PC/Laptop for free by signing up to http://www.tvcatchup.com "simples".

For those of us (me included) that have real trouble picking up digital signals, it might improve when the switchover is complete as they turn the power up on the transmitters. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the digital signals are only on about 10% power for now, due to their conflict with the existing analogue signals?

For example, for me in the Midlands I'm due to lose analogue from the 6th of April, so these gadgets should work better after that.
#26
I've got one of these, got it for £50 when it first came out. Its better than most at picking up signals with the small antenna supplied but you certainly wont get all channels.
#27
what sports channels does this pick up?
only freeview channels ?

Why not simply use TVcatchup?

Because it doesn't use up bandwidth, provides a better quality picture and can be used to turn your PC into a PVR?

Thanks to the OP as I've been looking for a cheap USB TV tuner for the Acer Revo that I've just ordered, so this is just what I needed!

When I go away for a few days I can *just about* live without telly. Leave this plugged in at home use this new fancy thing called 'recording' dear :)
If you must watch eastenders without fail then better indoor aerials are available (obviously).

price now on play is £27.94
next cheapest is amazon for £25.99
#31
I bought one ages ago, make sure you keep the box, otherwise won't let you install it again. The key is on the box. Signal is very weak, unless you have an external DVB-T one.

Sweet lord, the price is now £31.78!
#33
I missed out on the £14.59 deal, saw the 'used - like new' and took a chance on that for ~£7.

Arrived today, just a slightly bruised box as far as I can tell - so far so good :)
#34
Got the used, like new £6.87 option delivered today. Works a treat with the antenna supplied.
