What? There is no 32GB model on the Currys website!

That's a really good price. I'd buy one if I didn't already have my Xoom. I think this is the best form factor out of all the tablets currently on the market.
#5
I assume this is the older model ?

No, this 8.9inch was released last summer. You're probably thinking of Samsung's first android tablet which was only 7inch and released summer 2010.

Uhm whats it like, I know GHZ dont mean anything but its 1.0ghz seems a bit low. My phone has a faster ghz dual core

Nice one

I've got the 10.1 and its fantastic - for me it beats an ipad everytime, but that does depend on what you want it for

This has a dual core as well. Shame it has no HDMI port.

Silly me - was thinking of the Motorola Xoom model. OK, great price for Samsung Galaxy!

I haven't actually ordered this yet as not sure if it was a good price. I've read it's one of the better tablets but does anyone know if it's better than the xoom bearing in mind the xoom has twice the memory for the same price.

Alibab: Me too, what's better, this or the Xoom? The reviews I have read would suggest the Xoom is better, especially if you clock the processor, but I haven't seen a direct head to head comparison.
#14
Overall I'd say it's better than the Xoom. Same hardware so same performance in general. Half the flash memory but form factor is better in my opinion and it's much lighter too.

no sky go yet though

Best Galaxy Tab available (I have/had almost all of them) and not a bad price.
#17
I have the GALAXY TAB 10.1 and an ipad and I let the kids use the ipad and I use the Galaxy, its so much more flexible in what it can do.

Do not touch the Motorola, their non-US support sucks, the Xoom's have little updates and are many months behind the USA counterparts. The support from Motorola looks at everyone non-USA as second class citizens. I have the Xoom, its an OK tablet but would never get a Motorola product again.

ICS for EU Xoom, possibly by 2013 if at all.
#19
I think i'm going to go for this one, i've looked more at the reviews and a video and the thr0tt you have helped me make up my mind
#20
I have ordered, but will send it back under distance selling regs if it drops in price on the Ipad3 announcement next week (perhaps this price drop pre-empts that?). Been putting off buying a tablet for a long time, but want to make use of free WIFI when on holiday etc and the wife's Samsung Galaxy S2 has always been a great little device, so i'm expecting the tab to be pretty much the same, but on a larger scale (and without the phone function).

Do you have anything to back this up? If so I'm changing to US firmware on my Xoom!
1 Like #22
I've got a Xoom Wifi already otherwise might've opted for this. I flashed the official stock US firmware and then it upgraded automatically to Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) over wifi. Makes such as difference. On the previous Honeycomb, you could notice some stutter and the browser straining on some sites, but with ICS browsing is very enjoyable and the overall performance is buttery smooth.

I set the regional language to English (UK) using MoreLocale 2 app from the Market. The keyboard is qwerty, and I've also installed Swype beta free, so not affected in any way I can see by being on a 'US' rom.

But having said that, the Xoom does feel a bit heavy, and can be tiring holding upright for long periods of type. However the build quality feels very strong given that it has a metal body frame - unlike the Tab which is mostly plastic. But this makes it lighter.

I've just had the Zoom ordered for my birthday present, hopefully a better choice over the Samsung.

Shame on them - reducing the price after the £50 voucher has expired on 29th February.

Still a good price for a quality product.

Anyone with the Xoom needs to make it a GED, it thens gets the updates as Google release them. There is absolutely no point in having it limited to UK software and as soon as you change it to a GED then it is awesome.
#28
new tablet coming in next week, wait for it! ip3!

Thank you! This is what people seemingly in the know had been saying but I'd not found any official info about it. I think I'll just wait for the UK release if that's the case.

Except it invalidates your warranty, and as already pointed out, ICS will be rolled out to the UK in the next couple of months. Each to their own.

That's why it's the best form factor. Give one a try. Most people I know that have tried one think it's the best compromise between screen real estate and usability.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Wifi and Wifi+3G is soon to be released in the UK which has

1.4Ghz Dual Core processor (same as in the Galaxy Note)

1GB RAM

Honeycomb 3.2 (will get updated to ICS)

1280 x 800 Resolution

Super AMOLED Plus display (same display as the Galaxy S2 and the one and only Samsung tablet with this amazing display)

7.89mm thin which is even thinner than a Galaxy S2

16GB minimum storage

The screen is supposed to be understandably amazing compared to the other Samsung tablets.

You can get the Wifi version on amazon now for £474.54 which is too much or you can get it for about £339 delivered from

http://panamoz.com/index.php/samsung-galaxy-tab-7-7-16gb-wifi-3g-wifi-android-tablet.html

There is hundreds of positive reviews on the google.co.uk shopping page and there is a whole thread on avforums about the amazing service from this Hong Kong company:

http://www.avforums.com/forums/laptops-netbooks-tablets/1570869-galaxy-tab-7-7-users-opinion.html

Note that it is not the UK version (made in Vietnam) but comes with the UK charging cable and has no IR port but I'm guessing that's the last spec people would be desperate for.

I got one coming tomorrow with Wifi and 3G (I ordered on Tuesday night and the package is scheduled for delivery on Friday from Hong Kong!)

Also people would be worried about a nasty tax bill for the shipping but this company writes the value down as a very low value item to save you getting taxed (I'm not going to go into the morals of this). As you can see all of the UK buyers on the avforums thread never got taxed and this thread has been running since January.

This is a great tablet and at a really good price. I had an Asus Transformer (the first model) for a short while, but sent it back due to both models I received having various screen problems. This tablet is a much better size and weight (I wanted it for reading technical/programming PDFs mainly).

You can check out benchmarks on TechRadar (for what they are worth - though they won't take into account firmware updates). This is a much better tablet than the (original) Xoom due to the screen, which is much brighter (so you stand a chance of being able to see it outdoors) and is viewable from far greater angles. I was disappointed at how badly the Xoom's picture fades when you're not looking at it dead on. The colours look much better too on the Samsung. Hardware wise, they are pretty similar - though it's a shame there's no built in micro SD card slot or a HDMI port on the Samsung (remedied by carrying two small adapters around - but still, no excuse Samsung!).

Sadly I paid full whack for mine, but then I have had it since shortly after it came out over here.
