is pedigree any good? I've heard lots of negative feedback with owners using pedigree. The vets at pets at home told me they wouldn't recommend it.

Are you kidding me? I have been giving my dog pedigree ever since he was a month old. He is 8 years old now. No been to a vet for any serious health related issues, EVER! Just regular check-ups every 6 months or so. He is fit as a fiddle. Touch wood.

For great reviews of Dog foods try dogfoodanalysis.com. They provide impartial ratings of most of the major brands although it is an american website so not all of the foods in the uk are featured. I have no conncetion to the site btw!:p

My old mongrel had a pretty fit and healthy life until arthritis set in and she was fed on pedigree chum & mixer, didn't seem to do her any harm (possibly a benefit of a mongrel, they're less fussy and less prone to illness!).

However, when you start looking into the dog food industry, it makes interesting reading!
+1 for that dogfoodanalysis.com website. The top rated stuff from there is far more expensive than I can afford/would be willing to spend, so after reading some recommendations elsewhere, and trying my dog out on a trial pack, I'm opting for Skinners Field & Trial. Similarly priced to the pedigree food, but far better rated.
